October TBR is locked. 17 books, six of them Stephen King, with The Shining and Doctor Sleep going back-to-back. Also on deck: Riley Sager's The Unknown, CJ Leede's Maeve Fly and American Rapture, and Nick Cutter's The Troop. Where do I start? #BookSky

Easy to get behind James Reece's revenge. The Terminal List by Jack Carr, 4/5. I'd seen the Amazon series first, and the book's differences kept it fresh. #BookSky

Didn't expect a Patterson book to teach me about Hitler's rise to power, but The Munich Affair by James Patterson & David Ellis pulled it off — thriller pacing, real history. 4/5, great on-ramp if you're historical-fiction-curious. #BookSky

Went to help parents this weekend. Mother has liver cancer and a couple weeks ago father had a stroke and can no longer walk. Closer to home daughter has a brain tumor requiring surgery in October. What is the saying about never being given more than you can handle?

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman absolutely nailed it for a longtime WoW player. The LitRPG mechanics feel like home, and Carl + his cat-turned-battle-mage Donut are an instant favorite duo. 4/5, and I'm already starting book two. #BookSky

Just finished The Bones at Point No Point by D.D. Black and wow. Fast, twisty, and the characters are built up so well you forget half of them might be lying to you. PNW setting adds great atmosphere. 4/5 — already hunting for book two. #BookSky

Pierce Brown stuck the landing on the Red Rising trilogy. Morning Star pays off everything from the first two books, the stakes feel real, and that ending wrecked me. 5/5 — one of the best trilogy closers I've read. #BookSky #RedRising

New Barbara Nickless, new series, same result: she got me. A Voice in the Dark is a twisty FBI-profiler thriller about online manipulation via gaming and AI — and the tech details actually hold up, which I don’t say lightly as someone who works in the field. 4/5. #BookSky

I go to several independent book stores but am fortunate to have a Barnes and Noble close with the best staff ever! I am amazed with their knowledge, enthusiasm, and recommendations.

I went for Morning Star and ended up with these. The young lady checking me out thought this was a lot of horror books. October and Halloween are coming!

I perfer physical books but am reading one on kindle right now. The battery just ran out on the final 5% of the book. Ugh!

Golden Son by Pierce Brown might be the best sequel I’ve read in years. Darrow’s more dangerous, Sevro’s pure chaos, Mustang’s terrifyingly sharp — and the last two chapters wrecked me. 5/5. Already itching to start Morning Star.

Red Rising By Pierce Brown Hadn’t read sci-fi in years. Red Rising ended that streak in the best way — locked in from page one, couldn’t put it down, already need book two. Hunger Games fans, this is your next read. 5/5

I have not been this confidently wrong about a book in years. Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney kept undoing my theories, then landed one more twist after I thought it was finished. 5/5 — my ego did not survive.

What does it take to bring out someone’s Marion? Leah Rowan flips Hitchcock’s Psycho on its head in Marion — twisty as hell, and way more fun than a retelling has any right to be. 4/5, would happily read more from Rowan.

Starting this Follow the Rites... Nothing less than the survival of humanity is at stake. A supernatural horror about a young woman who accepts a caretaking job from Craigslist, only to discover the position has consequences far greater—and more dangerous—than she ever could have imagined.

Vacation read #2. I also rate a 4/5. I think I am very lenient on my ratings but I enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would.

Supposed to be a 10am to 2pm flight to Orlando for my daughter’s birthday. Diverted to Jacksonville for weather. Deplaned. Reboarded. Deplaned again. Reboarded again. Canceled at 11pm. After getting bags got a car and drove in. Walked through the door at 2am. She’s worth it. The airline isn’t.

25 books, two days, and the North Texas indie bookstore crawl runs all month. There are 35 shops on this map. I am going to all of them, which I decided before doing any math. Currently deciding whether The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu is a "right now" book or a "brave later" book.
A tall stack of 25 books balanced on a white round table in front of a sunlit window with white blinds. Spines from top to bottom: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, The Last Contract of Isako by Fonda Lee, Daggermouth by Wolfe, The Sixth Nik by Daniel Kraus, Theo of Golden by Allen Levi, Red Rising by Pierce Brown, Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, Jian by Eric Van Lustbader, The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas, The Last Mandarin by Louise Penny and Mellissa Fung, Land by Maggie O'Farrell, Angel Down by Daniel Kraus, Dark Matter by Blake Crouch, Whistler by Ann Patchett, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, The Caretaker by Marcus Kliewer, King Sorrow by Joe Hill, The Burning Side by Sarah Damoff, Where the Dead Sleep by Joshua Moehling, And There He Kept Her by Joshua Moehling, Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid, Bridesmaid for Hire by Meghan Quinn, The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu, and 11/22/63 by Stephen King. Two books near the top have paper bookmarks sticking out.
A printed flyer for the August 2026 NTX Indie Bookstore Crawl. The left side lists 35 participating independent bookstores grouped by city across North Texas, including Arlington, Azle, Dallas, Denton, Fate, Fort Worth, Garland, Granbury, Grapevine, Keller, Mansfield, McKinney, Midlothian, North Richland Hills, Plano, Waxahachie, Weatherford, and Wylie. The right side is a simplified map of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex with each shop pinned and labeled. A QR code links to event details, and a note asks participants to use the hashtag NTXindiebookcrawl26.A printed Bookstore Passport for August 1 to 31, 2026. A six-by-six grid lists each participating North Texas indie bookstore and its promotion for passport holders, mostly 10 to 15 percent off a purchase, plus free bookmarks, stickers, and drinks. Text at the top notes no purchase is required for a stamp. A QR code in the bottom right corner is for submitting the stamped passport, with each stamp earning a raffle entry for a gift card prize pack.

Compassion, decency, and humanity shouldn’t disappear just because we disagree with someone. The way we respond to death says as much about our own character as it does about the person who has passed.

About 1/4 through this one. This is a genre I normally wouldn't read. I have been expanding my reading with recommendations from "Book Tok". I am really loving this book so far!

A few weeks ago I reset my routine: less TV/gaming, more reading. I cleaned news and politics out of my feeds, tightened up my diet around hydration and clean protein, and moved more workouts outside. Result so far: more focus, better energy, and down 34 lbs. I’m liking this path.

When driving in New Orleans I forget people honk much more freely. In Dallas a honk usually indicates road rage in progress. In NO it usually precedes a wave. Drive crazy but are half way friendly about it.

Visiting my daughter in New Orleans for a couple of days. Love all the non chain food options. Have done Barracuda for tacos, Sugars for breakfast and Hansen’s for a satsuma and snow bliz snowball.
