On this day in 1847, Charlotte Bronte’s landmark novel "Jane Eyre" was first published. The book has always been immensely popular. 🧵 #BookSky #WriterSky #Rights #Women #BookHistory #OTD

Exit Party St John Mandel A complex enjoyable book. If you expect a book that begins at point A, tells a linear story, and ends at point B, you will be disappointed. Characters are fractured across time and setting, multiples of the same person yet each one being an individual. Loved it! #booksky

Exit Party St John Mandel I am almost done and the complexity of this story impresses the hell out of me! I envision walls of post its with different colors of yarn linking characters, events, settings. A fascinating story that stretches one's mind. Ashamed that I thought it might be a DNF #booksky

How High We Go in the Dark is such a fantastic read! I always get excited when someone mentions a book that no one else I know has read it.

Exit Party Emily St. John Mandel I'm almost half way through. This is unlike anything I expected. I keep vacillating between DNF or keep on reading yet have found that I am intrigued at times. Any opinions or thoughts from other who might have read it? Am a die-hard SciFi lover. #booksky

The narrator is a prime component to any audio book. I consider the narrator of Leckie's books to be one of the best. For Leviathan, it's more about the story and the way it's constructed. However the narrator is good. If I didn't like him/her then I won't listen. I'll read.

Leviathan Wakes James Corey Audio or print? Print or audio? In this case, I'm listening to this fascinating SciFi novel. I consider audio to be on par with a physical book. Both grab the imagination and ability to create mental imagery and this book does not disappoint. Recommended! #booksky

Was doing a huge corn maze in Mass. with my grands (6 and 10) and I had them stop and listen as the wind blew through the stalks. It was eerily neat and "crispy" sounding.

I do like the cover of Starter Villain but would have enjoyed it more if one of your cats was the "villain." Great book and Old Man's War is by far my favorite.

Downtown it could well be nothing but is a traffic stopper so that panhandlers can descend upon the stopped cars. Sad.

Gosh, I thought I was alone in my disappointment. It's on the Booker Short list and I've no idea why. Her novel, Olive Kitteridge was pretty good though. I did like that but other reading excursions into her writing left me apathetic.

#booksky Some Desperate Glory Emily Tesh When I began this book, I was disappointed. I thought it was going to be a fluff of a story. Wrong! I'm mortified by my initial reactions. Great characters and events. Loved the complexity. Highly recommended. One of my best reads. Hugo Award, 2024.

In some district we, the librarians, are required to help support the curriculum through extension or modeling of ELA (even math and science!) lessons that incorporate books. Probably one of my favorite lessons are with narrative nonfiction, one example is My Awesome Summer by P. Mantis. : )

I worked with teachers to develop small group lessons with our big books. Each small group had a big book and aside from enjoying the book, either picture or words, each group had a specific goal. Vocabulary, What Do You Notice?, Problem/Solution, etc. We did it in the library then in classrooms.

Life: A Love Story, Seasons of Glass and Iron, Leviathan Wakes (audio), Some Desperate Glory, and All the King's Men. I'm sort of ambivalent about the last one. Not sure if I'll continue reading it.

When returning from overseas I am always taken back by the litter and mess that is so predominant in the US. Especially after a few weeks in Austria.

Norse Mythology Neil Gaiman A fantastic book and after reading, I had to listen to the audio as well. A great companion read is, The Witches Heart by Genevieve Gornichec. Mythology is such a great look at people's cultural beliefs, guidelines, and behavior constraints. #booksky

There seems to be a rise in Preppers posting online, shopping for things that will help them survive an event, posting lists of items, etc What about books? You may have a tablet for ebooks but with no power? No internet? Why not put physical books in prepper lists? Have ideas? Suggestions? #booksky

The Incandescent, Tesh, Emily Late to finishing this Hugo nominated book. As a previous teacher and librarian, I was intrigued by the main character's actions. The middle of the story became predictable (ugh) but then the last few sections became quite unexpected. Glad I read it. #booksky

Hard decision. I enjoyed presenting but as I got deeper into the library weeds in the district where I worked, it became harder for me to work with the admin politicking. I could not support what they became in my presentations. To say I became disillusioned would be an understatement.

One of my top reads from August! Loved it and it made a strange pairing with The High House by Jessie Greengrass, which is also one of my favorites.

This is a hard question to answer for August. I had 4 books I rated 5 stars!! So, steering away from Sci-Fi I will choose Five by ilona Bannister. I could not put it down so I didn't. Read it straight through. All I can say is, " Mind the Gap!"
