“Space jellyfish” — noctilucent rocket contrails — over Tallahassee this morning following the pre-dawn SpaceX launch.

Y’all, Hurricane Isaias is 150 miles away and still offshore. We have already lost power, the road to our house is impassable (and is being guarded by a sheriff’s deputy), and we’ve got a tree down that took off the gutter on the corner of the house.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Christa Pike, who regained consciousness almost six days after Tennessee's failed attempt to execute her, is aware of what happened and "angry and confused," one of her attorneys said Wednesday.
Pike, 50, survived despite receiving two lethal doses of pentobarbital on Sept. 30. She was sentenced to death for the 1995 beating and stabbing death of classmate Colleen Slemmer.
"She is very aware of what they did to her up to a point," attorney Randy Spivey said following a court hearing in Nashville where a judge told the state to save evidence from the execution attempt.
"On Monday night, it was our understanding that Christa was brain dead and that life support would be removed the next day," Spivey said. "But on Tuesday, to the shock of everyone ... Christa woke up and began talking."
Spivey, who was not with Pike when she woke up, said he was told her first words were, "Where am I?" and "Who are you?"

Oh wow! It was an electrical explosion! That’s some pretty crazy damage to Monroe Street, a major downtown thoroughfare and almost right in front of the State Capitol Complex!

There will be a planned electric service outage in the downtown area to allow crews to safely assess and make repairs. This will impact traffic signals and area buildings. Please continue to avoid the area if possible.

Crews are actively working on impacts caused by an underground electrical fire that has caused road damage. Continuing to work with TFD and other law enforcement agencies, road closures in the area are anticipated to remain throughout the day, including Monroe Street between Park Avenue and Apalachee Parkway, as well as adjacent roads.

Huge cracks and chunks of exploded roadway surround a gaping manhole on Monroe Street in Tallahassee near the intersection of East Park in front of the State Capitol Complex. The greatest damage is to the western-most southbound lane, but both southbound lanes of Monroe are covered in debris.

Once or twice a day, Cypress crawls onto my chest & nuzzles my face with kisses while purring deeply before settling down for a nap. Cat love is the best therapy for cat loss.

Cypress and Magnolia are the snuggliest little purr machines.

Cypress, a white and orange kitten, and his slightly older sister Magnolia, a tortie, dutifully napping on the job yesterday. Cypress is laying on his slide staring sleepily at the camera. Magnolia is sound asleep laying on her back, one paw outstretched, her body twisted into a backwards C-shape.

It’s been a crazy 2 weeks with two new kittens and most of that time trying yo negotiate cat intros without AC… So it’s really nice to see Fred, Cypress, and Magnolia all chillin’ on the cat tree together after a round of “feathers”.

Up top with his orange and white head hanging out of the basket is little 4 mo Cypress. In the middle hammock is Fred, our year-old brown tiger “kitten “. At the bottom on the large platform is our newest, 5 mo Magnolia.

Meet new fur child #2. Currently calling her Maggie/Magnolia. She’s about 5 months old, so a few weeks older than Cypress. She is amazingly soft, makes the cutest little squeaks when she meows, and is super-duper snuggly.

Oh look. Even LCSO is killing pedestrians in Tallahassee now. So far this year, pedestrians have been struck by vehicles 151 times, with seven fatalities. This one happened less than a mile from FSU in front of a strip mall in a mixed residential/commercial area. www.tallahassee.com/story/news/b...

A pedestrian struck by a Leon County Sheriff's Office vehicle Friday night in West Tallahassee later died from her injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP Cpl. PJ Shaw said the crash happened at about 10:42 p.m. at the intersection of Ausley Road and Pensacola Street and involved a Chevrolet Tahoe operated by a LSO reserve deputy and a female pedestrian.
The woman was transported to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, where she later died. Authorities were still working to identify the victim Saturday morning.
Shaw said investigators were still working to determine the circumstances that led to the crash.
LCSO spokesperson Shonda Knight said she couldn't comment on the investigation since it is being handled by FHP, but she noted the vehicle was being driven by a reserve deputy. Such deputies hold all their law enforcement credentials and have access to sheriff's office vehicles and work specific details like events or conducting traffic.
"It's a tragic incident any time someone loses their life,"
Knight told the Democrat. "Our thoughts and prayers are with deceased individual and we're making sure our reserve deputy receives wellness support" after the
"traumatic" incident.
