for complicated reasons I found myself reading a Guardian review of a farewell concert by the rock band Kiss from a few years ago and... ...this paragraph did not go where I expected it to go:
Guardian article text:

Paul Stanley’s stage banter – delivered in a voice that’s part disgruntled parrot, part man having his balls unexpectedly squeezed, and part kids’ entertainer – remains a thing of astonishment: “I think sometimes, after Makin’ Love, you have to call the doctor … not any doctor … I’m not talking about any doctor. I’m talking about … Calling Doctor Love.” Incredibly, that’s an improvement on his ending of a minute’s silence for the Manchester bombing in 2017 with the announcement: “Does anyone here like to Lick It Up?”

Care charging is itself a fraught issue. A lot of attention is paid to capital means tests - usually "do you count someone's house or not?". But the income means test is rather perversely designed:
Article text:

Under current rules, councils must include income from most benefits when deciding how much care users can afford to pay in charges. By contrast, councils must exclude income from paid work. This is the complete reverse of nearly any other means test, as it favours people with more income over people with less income.

But aside from the headline arguments over care cost caps and universal v means-tested provision, there are other aspects of adult care that often get overlooked. For example, the position of unpaid carers:

You sometimes get wonk types decrying the attacks that sank May's "dementia tax" as an example of how cynical politicking makes adult care reform impossible. Guys, it was a shite policy:
Article text:

The backlash was immediate. Dilnot said that under the plans “the majority of people who are getting care not in a residential care home but in their own home, will find themselves worse off”.

this is the motion text I'm referring to. unless I've misread it, it's opposing the Jerusalem Declaration on Antisemitism (the JDA definition)
Motion text:

The Green Party shall object and campaign against the use or adoption of any examples or definitions (including but not limited to the IHRA and JDA definitions) that conflate Israel with Judaism, anti-Zionism with antisemitism or infringe upon the rights of Palestinians. These definitions should be removed and/or replaced with clear and concise definitions of antiJewish discrimination which do not pose these conflations or infringe on Palestinian rights and their advocates.

saw this posted earlier. low real wages were primarily an early 2010s story - the 2.5% floor has been used only twice in the last decade, one of them the Covid year, and given where inflation is these days I doubt it'll be used again anytime soon

Moreover, those severe conditions criteria weren't even designed to judge who should be protected from benefit cuts - they were designed to judge who should be protected from reassessments, which requires different considerations:
Article text:

The DWP’s severe conditions guidance was designed around their original purpose – deciding if claimants should be periodically reassessed, not whether they should face benefit cuts. It might be reasonable that someone with a condition that can be “cured” by surgery should be reassessed after recovering from that surgery to see if they still need benefits. But that is different to saying the same person should receive vastly lower benefits while they sit on an NHS waiting list, as an incentive to find work they are unable to do.

I say "she wants to see more of". Here's the flipside - because of *Labour's* LHA cuts, in practice LHA now only covers the cheapest 11-15% of local rents. LHA rates in Enfield are *already* down to around the 10th percentile of local rents due to rent inflation and Labour’s real-terms cuts
Article text:

The two-year LHA freeze has meant that across England, on average it is now limited to the cheapest 12 per cent of local rents for shared accommodation, the 11th percentile of one-bed rents, the 12th percentile for two-bed homes, the 14th percentile for three-bed homes, and the 16th percentile for larger homes.

A report tabled at Enfield's cabinet meeting said: "The Council continues to lobby the Government to lift the temporary accommodation subsidy cap and the raising of LHA to the 30% of the market on an ongoing basis". Another report written by the council's director of homelessness said:
Council report text:

In agreeing this strategy the Council also recognises that fundamentally the Government must address the structural issues affecting homelessness and in particular we call on Government to:

a. Uprate Local Housing Allowance so that it properly reflects local market rents, and maintain annual uprating thereafter, to reduce the gap between benefit levels and actual rents and improve access to the private rented sector for low-income households
