So it appears that Ken Paxton wears a $42,000 Swiss-made Hublot wristwatch. My Filipino-made $65 Timexes can tell time just as well.

Trump wants Welker “rebuked”? Rather odd choice of words. A bit King James Bible-ish.

It’s obviously fake. Look at the chyron—it’s typical AI-generated gibberish. That point aside, however, this AI fakery is pretty good—and funny as hell.

The fireworks began at midnight. I’m watching mostly to see if DC can survive all that ordnance going off.

A lie? Or is it dementia-fueled confabulation? Or (even worse)—a false narrative handed to him by one of handlers?

Meidas was one of the few news outlets to cover this story. Other outlets treated Trump’s post with undue good faith, simply noting that the White House hadn’t yet supplied a list of participating stations—implying that such a list was forthcoming. Which, of course, it wasn’t.

The images that accompany Trump’s post are obvious AI slop. Is he confabulating?

Gonzales’ comment reminds me of comments made by far-right Christian nationalist pastor Joel Webbon. He once complained about a Hindu using his local community swimming pool. “I don’t even know what country I’m in, in my own neighborhood,” he fumed. He’s from Texas too, by the way.

A quick Google search reveals that Sara Gonzales isn’t an everyday person who posted a bigoted comment on X. She is a professional far-right commentator who is affiliated with BlazeTV and who has targeted Asian Indians and Muslims.

In November, there will be a special election for what used to be Rubio’s seat. The current incumbent—Ashley Moody—was appointed by Gov. DeSantis. Her likely opponent will be Alexander Vindman. So there’s hope for a blue victory this year.

I’m a Floridian who has always voted against Scott. In past elections, Scott usually won by pluralities, not majorities. In 2024, Scott ran against a viable Democratic opponent. Yet Florida voters actually re-elected Scott by the biggest margin of victory he had ever gotten—about 56%.

For what it’s worth, I’m a boomer. I was born in the mid-50s, so I’m too young to remember the height of Cold War fears. But I do remember the Cuban Missile Crisis and Krushchev’s “We will bury you.” And I voted against Trump 3 times.

Except—we celebrate the Resurrection on Easter. Palm Sunday commemorates the day when Jesus entered Jerusalem, cheered on by crowds hailing him as a blessed one.

It is a fascinating film. I’m very interested in the academic study of religion, especially mysticism. I also love music. So this film spoke to me via 2 channels. Technically, I suppose you’d call it a musical. But for me, it was more like opera—and a very dreamlike one.

An independent cinema in Tampa, Florida is playing it in 70mm—sadly, to all-but-empty houses! I saw it the other day, with only 3 other patrons. I’m still processing what I saw. It was different from what I expected—very much like an opera heard in a dream.

I just saw this fascinating film on Monday (3/2) in 70mm. Sadly, the film is bombing locally; the showing I attended had only 4 patrons. I’d love to own it on DVD. Likewise, it’s my understanding that Sony isn’t releasing the soundtrack album in physical media either.

The Republicans must be aware of all those MAGA followers who virtue-signal by carrying around pocket-sized printed copies. It’s also in the $60 Trump Bible.

Can AI make Freudian slips? The other day, I did a Google search on “west hollywood musk permits.” I was looking for information on how Musk’s new Tesla Diner got permission to erect its massive video screens. Google’s AI thought that I wanted to learn about getting rid of infestations of muskrats!

Hawley’s plan is to give $600 to taxpayers with incomes below $75,000. Apparently, Hawley thinks that people in that income bracket are all MAGA and that Biden voters are all wealthy elitists. I’m in that income bracket, and I’m not MAGA. Besides, $600 is nice but not exactly a windfall.

What a shame! My roots are in Oklahoma. I was born there and lived there until my father relocated to Florida when I was in middle school. I returned there twice in the 1990s when relatives of mine died; haven’t been back since. I really don’t remember Oklahoma being as bad as it seems to be now.

Using letters in phone numbers. For example, my phone number when I was a kid began EL5, or “Elgin 5.” This was in the 1960s. Also, it was a big deal when area codes were introduced, because you no longer had to call an operator to place a ling-distance call.

One issue that hasn’t gotten much attention nationwide is Florida Gov. DeSantis’ attempt to create a new higher education accrediting agency to supersede the supposedly “woke” SACS. The Florida Legislature has appropriated $4 million for this purpose, . . .

I’m trying—unsuccessfully—to remember the first time I bought something online. It would have been after New Year’s Day 1998, because that’s when I first went online. Could well have been books from Amazon or CDs from Berkshire Record Outlet.

Amazon always was an online shopping site. E-commerce was uncommon but did exist in the mid-1990s. According to the Wikipedia folks, e-commerce was around as far back as 1981. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-comme...

I saw that movie a long time ago on a rented DVD. Furtwaengler is held in very high regard as a conductor, but remains a controversial figure because he was anti-Nazi but wound up playing Beethoven in honor of Hitler.

In 2010, I greatly admired Murkowski. In that year, a Tea Party radical defeated her in the primary. She wound up winning reelection by running as a write-in, defeating both the Democratic candidate and the Tea Party candidate. An impressive feat. Contrast that with 2025—impressive cowardice.
