www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/... In which Eisner uses the dramatic fall in the UK homicide rate in the last 20 years as proof for a Weberian interpretation of history. But isn’t this also the same period when police numbers were slashed and state capacity hollowed out? #skystorians

Yes, excellent piece, but misses the point that some disciplines now encourage the idea that it’s ok to make things up.

Feel sorry for Jason Arday. He’s obviously a smart guy who quickly learned how to work the system. There’s always been a lot of bullshit in academia. It was once mildly irritating. But now we’re telling students that it’s ok to make things up.

This defeat feels bad. Worse than 1990 when we played a great German side. I’m 61 and don’t think I will see us play in a final🥲. Come on Spain!

I guess what sticks in the progressive craw about #Argentina isn’t the Falklands, but a colonial-settler mentality unable to reckon with its genocidal past, see also Zionists, Afrikaaners and the DUP. Plus they’re also cheats.

Argentina deserved to win. But before we scored they did nothing. This is on Tuchel. Going to a back 5 allowed them and Messi to dictate. It sticks in the craw.

Calvin’s Geneva is reduced to a cliche of moral terror. The English Common Law was way more punitive.

Poor old #Calvin is much maligned and misinterpreted. A stoic pacifist, who abhorred slavery; an opponent of fanatical biblicism and political tyranny. Unlike #Hegseth he knew his Cicero, Plutarch and Seneca.
