Rescued some stuff from the thrift shop today. A weird old stock market game from (I think) the 80s (it has no copyright date), and a bunch of old chips for playing tarot and tarock games.

Multinational. A what looks to be stock market game on a monopoly like board. The box is illustrated in an old timey style depicting a factory, an oil platform, a car, and some business people. Also on the box is a photo of the contents of the game box.

Got myself a set of actual real knuckle bones. I wanna see if I can't make a game with these, and if not I'll at least have an interesting set of ancient style d4s.

A set of five ankle bones sourced from sheep. Historically, these have been used both as dice for games, as jacks, and for cleromancy.

I love my monthly game days. This month I only had one friend over instead of the usual group of 2-3, so it was all 2p games. Got to show off some prototypes and a few games that don't get a lot of plays normally! Nearly half of what we played was climbing/shedding games :)

One of my favourite things that's been happening in recent months is organically coming up with new games with my partner. It's funny how quickly something can come together when you come up with rules on the fly! But then through repeated iteration an actual game emerges.

I started reading "The Game Changers" by Tim Clare, and I thought I'd share one of my favourite excerpts from it. Did you know that you too are a cleric if you regularly roll dice?

Whether in play settings or courts of law, throwing dice has always been an implicit form of cleromancy: 'mancy', a suffix from the Greek manteia meaning 'the power of prophecy', and
'clero', from the Greek klêros, meaning 'lot' or 'the casting of lots'
- that is, throwing dice, knucklebones, pebbles or straws, and reading portents in how they fall.
Klêros is the root of the word 'cleric'. A cleric is a dice-thrower.

Been testing a few new designs over the past few days

Race to the Bottom, a deck shedding game played with standard decks. Each player uses their own deck. Can be scaled to any player count (though it may get slow after 4)

<no name yet>, a climbing game where you only play one card. It has some UNO like elements to make it more appealing to the family games crowd

Rynek, an alternate take on Canasta where you can use your points as wilds

Crêpes, a shedding game with very loose and lax shedding rules that utilises a market. Playable with a Five Crowns deck

Over the past few days I've been playing around with some rudimentary bone carving from some ossobuco I made over the weekend. This has resulted in two different sets of dice: a set of four sided Daldøs dice and a set of two sided stick dice. Bone is shockingly hard to cut and file so it took hours!

Game design pro tip: You can use I've guide on a paper slicer with a pencil to precisely scribe lines on your cards relative to their edge. Using the same tool you used to slice the paper should ensure consistency
