The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

On a more positive note, I finally got round to setting up Navidrome to serve my music collection and it is FUCKING MAGNIFICENT. I used to use CloudBeats app hooked up to my iTunes library on my Dropbox, which was ok but had some big issues that Navidrome has cleared up beautifully. Wooooooooooooop!

My latest book project for Artica Svalbard. A series of interviews with six people from seven different countries about their time on Svalbard; how they came to Svalbard, what made them stay and why new immigration legislation might one day force them to leave.

the new (beta) @penpot.app renderer is such a huge improvement. snappier in a 100-tab browser window from hell than the Figma desktop app with a single file open. i know i keep saying this but if you design for the web and you haven't tried penpot you owe it to yourself to give it a whirl.

Squeezed in one last personal project; it syncs data from Rekordbox into a little web app, improving the filtering so I can browse what records are in the same rack, plan mixes etc away from my computer. Yes it's a WCAG nightmare but it's just for me so I can wallow in my pastel neon squinty world

I'm working on a dual language book about immigration. My typographic approach is to set both languages together with each paragraph varying in width to take up the same amount of lines as its equivalent in the other language.

A spread of two book pages with the same text in both English and Norwegian. Each English paragraph sits next to its Norwegian equivalent. The widths of each respective paragraph is different so that each pair of matching paragraphs are always the same number of lines deep.

This is a 52-pound 9000+ page accordion-bound artist’s book of Donald Trump’s lies, conceived, printed, and bound by Jill and Ray Nichols of @leadgraffiti.bsky.social in Delaware. Each of the 9000 pages has the text (per the Washington Post) of one or more of Trump’s lies; none are repeated.

The 9000-page 52-pound book, entitled LIAR, LIAR, on display today at the University of Maryland.

The disolution of the Delaware College of Art & Design, to whom Lead Graffti had donated 1oos of design books over the past decade, brought an invitation to redaim them. We found a few, which brought us another interesting find — a blank Coppic-stitched book with a spine about 36 inches wide bound by Ema Ishii Holdredge for her BEA show at the Corcoran School of Art in
2008. That book haunted us for several weeks, and we decided it was too audacious not to give ita Lead Graffiti shot. For a while, we pondered how to fill a several thousand-page book with
content that made a serious point.
The notion of the presidential untruths came to mind, so maybe there was some documentation we could "borrow?" Sure enough, in a few Safari minutes, we found a downloadable PDE from
The Washington Post that we could massage into a typographic form we could use. We were off. Ray undertook the ink-jet printing of the pages, folding and inserting the red cover-weight sheets for structural support, and gathering and
punching the folds for sewing. Jill did 99.8% of the sewing.
At a 3o2 United gathering, we encouraged attendees to give the book a stroke.

So much of my print practice involves working with paper to figure out mechanics and format. Almost always beginning with scraps of paper; torn folded, scribbled on. It's such a valuable part of my process. Think > test > adjust > make.

I often see the word 'kerning' used incorrectly by CSS heads when the term they're actually looking for to describe letter spacing is 'tracking'. Let me explain using CSS terminology! Tracking is the same as gap in flex layouts; consistent spacing applied across the entire text. But what if... 🧵

Found a little bug in Chrome where a backdrop filter on an element doesn't apply to text if there's anything on the page with a mix-blend-mode. Thanks to @joshwcomeau.com for the help diagnosing it!
