I agree, but IMO, middle class single family houses (starter or not) are just fine sitting on 0.1 acre lots. You can fit 3 houses of 3-4 bedrooms in that space.

Yeah, to me (assuming the story is reported correctly), the most one can say is maybe he's in denial bc it's hard to admit you fucked up and almost killed 2 kids. But I don't feel like being that understanding.

I don't disagree with your general point, but the story says that the driver said that after seeing the video.

Yeah, the red light and walk signal couldn't be more clear in that video. But the driver lied anyway.

If you showed up to an Oct 7 rally on the side of the people who did it, you're probably antisemitic no matter how you dressed or what signs you brought. The symbolism of the whole thing is inescapable.

It might be a fusion of the adipose things and the robots in that other episode that either had a smiley face or frowny face depending on if they were in helpful or murder mode.

If that's the standard, I guess we should just open the borders to almost everyone from South America, Central America, and the Caribbean.

In any case, your response proves the OP's and my point. In your eyes, anyone willing to talk about Hamas' role in the conflict is automatically a shill for Israel who wants to excuse genocide. This is exactly how the Gaza movement polices language to exclude discussion of Hamas.

In case it helps, chances are they're made in Taiwan in a factory owned by someone else, so most of the purchase price doesn't go to the American company.

In this case, the statement you objected to is similar to "the sky is blue." Everyone can see it's blue, so anyone objecting to that would have the burden of proof. If you don't understand that the OP is correct on this point, you simply haven't been paying attention.

A rarely chosen option, but still a valid one.

Not that I would expect that. After all, showing up at a rally on the anniversary of a heinous massacre *on the side of the people who did it* is a clear indicator of support for the massacre no matter what signs you are or aren't carrying.

Your claim was not a rebuttal to my statement. It was an out of nowhere, baseless assertion. In any case, Oct 7 wasn't in response to Israel breaking a ceasefire. But I invited you to post a citation and you can't.

citizenjs1.bsky.social @citizenjs1.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
No, the burden is on you for making a completely unsupported claim. If you're right, it should incredibly easy for you to prove it.

If you think Hamas did Oct 7 bc Israel broke a ceasefire, you're also an idiot.

citizenjs1.bsky.social @citizenjs1.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
If you think Oct 7 was Hamas defending itself, or that Hamas = "the Palestinians", you're an idiot.

citizenjs1.bsky.social @citizenjs1.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
The Gaza-obsessed left has almost entirely written Hamas out of the discourse on Israel's actions in Gaza, except for those that celebrate Hamas and Oct 7. But if you want to try to convince us it's not "substantial", go ahead. Burden of proof is on you.

As weird as it feels to engage in this argument, in order to be useful in dispute resolution, a mediator needs to be viewed as a neutral party. Given Epstein's history of pedophilia and sexual exploitation of women, he would be about the worst possible choice to mediate this.
110
citizenjs1.bsky.social @citizenjs1.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
An impeachment process around the incomplete release of the Epstein files would be an excellent way to drag Trump's pedo past into the light of televised hearings and the congressional record.

citizenjs1.bsky.social @citizenjs1.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Yes, that's where the value lies in the impeachment process during the next term. Assuming a Dem majority in the Senate, it can even happen twice (House impeachment and Senate trial).
010
citizenjs1.bsky.social @citizenjs1.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I know that concern trolling Dems is a popular activity among leftists. But just bc it buys you cred among your little cohort doesn't mean it makes sense in the real world. Maybe the people who actually won elections to serve in Congress for their constituents might understand things you don't.
100
citizenjs1.bsky.social @citizenjs1.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
A party introducing articles of impeachment that they can't pass is like a dude walking into a sex party and yelling "hey, look at me! I'm impotent!" Without a majority, you can't even have a hearing to get evidence into the public record. At best, you get a losing vote that makes you look weak.
100
citizenjs1.bsky.social @citizenjs1.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I think we should acknowledge that the entire problem with impeachment in the upcoming congressional term is that it's very unlikely that there will be 60 Senate votes for conviction. It is not a matter of Dem courage, as Trump has already been impeached twice.
100
citizenjs1.bsky.social @citizenjs1.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
This is clearly wrong, bc impeachment measures literally passed in the House twice during Trump's 1st term. He was not convicted in the Senate either time bc Republicans protected him. But there was no lack of courage from Dems on impeachment.

I think there is something to the mindset that if you can do something that most people never bother to learn, and get paid a lot for it, then you must be really, really smart. I'm sure there are some really smart people in tech, and also a lot of people who only think they know everything.

Permanent DST would face a buzzsaw of opposition from the "can't have kids going to school in the dark" crowd, if it actually happened. Of course, some kids have to go to school in the dark under standard time as well. The better solution would be permanent standard time.

Unaffordable housing in a market means there's not enough housing. And there is no solution to unaffordability that doesn't involve creating much more housing. Instead of resorting to conspiracy theories, we should focus on reducing barriers to creating more housing.
040
citizenjs1.bsky.social @citizenjs1.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
You seem to be on the track to getting it, but somehow aren't. To the extent that what you're saying is true, it's only possible when there is an insufficient supply of housing in the market. Manipulation of supply and pricing only works in an environment of scarcity.
160
citizenjs1.bsky.social @citizenjs1.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
"Rental predators" are only possible where there is a shortage of housing. If there is enough housing, the market forces rents to be reasonable bc people can move to cheaper housing.

In my field, there are work settings where there's a lot of uncompensated overtime, where they generally make more money, and others that are more of a regular schedule. I've been thrilled to be in the latter situation. Time for outside life is much better than the extra money for me.

I'm not in tech at all, but I've heard stories of programmers basically living at work.
220
citizenjs1.bsky.social @citizenjs1.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
I mean, one thing unions are good for is allowing you to have a life outside work by preventing being forced to work uncompensated overtime. So if you don't mind uncompensated overtime, then maybe a union isn't for you. But culturally we probably *should* have a problem with that.
130
citizenjs1.bsky.social @citizenjs1.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Honest question. If a union was able to enforce an honest 40-hr work week for programmers, would there be more jobs for programmers? (And maybe the answer is different in the LLM era than it would have been before).

I would prefer permanent standard time, but either way many kids end up going to school in the dark in winter.

My own theory is that he is reasonably bright (or was, before all the drugs). But he's been high on his own supply, and gotten away with it so long, that he's just stopped bothering to think before he speaks, tweets, or makes a decision. Success + narcissism is hard to distinguish from stupidity.

I feel like "your name will be used by the entire world as a curse for the next 7 generations" might be a good argument for an advisor to use here, given that Trump is a narcissist and therefore is obsessed with approval and legacy.
