Congratulations to Nobel laureate Francis Halzen. A Belgian physicist wins the prize for work largely developed in the US. Europe still produces extraordinary talent — but too often lacks the scale, funding and conditions needed to keep it. European leaders should take note. 🇪🇺

Europe’s housing crisis is bigger than short-term rentals. More than 47.5 million EU homes are classified as unoccupied, including vacant and seasonal homes. Not all can return to the market, but Europe cannot ignore such a huge existing housing stock. 🏠🇪🇺 euobserver.com/240606/europ...

Europe’s Affordable Housing Act must look beyond short-term rentals
As Brussels pins its housing fix on curbing Airbnb-style rentals, campaigners warn lawmakers are ducking a far bigger fight over Europe’s millions of empty homes and the people still sleeping rough.

Another warning that Europe is falling behind the US and China — this time in pharmaceuticals and biotech. We have the science, talent and market. What we still lack is the scale, investment and common strategy to match them. 🇪🇺 www.rapporteur.com/es/news/la-u...

I’m surprised that people in other European countries haven’t followed the example of Spaniards in protesting over the housing crisis. Housing is not just a Spanish problem. It affects all of us across Europe. Why aren’t we mobilising together?

Good news for European federalists. Volt is still small, but 6 new district seats in Berlin show that a pro-European, federal vision can gain ground. A federal Europe won’t be built overnight. It will be built seat by seat, city by city. 🇪🇺

The promises were clear: Treaty change, breaking free from unanimity, a stronger Union. But Europe cannot live on speeches alone. If we want a Union capable of acting as a real geopolitical power, institutional reform must become reality. 🇪🇺

Canada sees Europe as a strategic partner. But Europe still struggles to act as one. Defence, foreign policy and vetoes remain fragmented. If we want unique alliances, we first need a Union capable of behaving like a true political power. 🇪🇺🇨🇦

That's exactly my point. Many countries teach European history, but there's no common European core curriculum. If we want to build a shared European identity, every young European should learn not only their national history, but also our common history.

Fco. Javier Ruiz @ciribulle.wsocial.eu · 20/09/2026
Words shape the way we think. Politicians know that better than anyone. An adjective can profoundly change how we perceive a reality. But the noun remains its essence. "Conventional war." "Hybrid war." The adjective describes it. The noun tells us what it is. Is Europe at war or not?

Fco. Javier Ruiz @ciribulle.wsocial.eu · 20/09/2026
Just one small point: unfortunately, there is no European Constitution. The Constitutional Treaty was never ratified. Today, the EU is based on its Treaties. Perhaps one day... 🇪🇺

Fco. Javier Ruiz @ciribulle.wsocial.eu · 20/09/2026
I completely agree on common core standards. I'd also add European history. It's difficult to build a shared future if young Europeans don't know the history they share.

Did I ever deny it? By that logic, every country that bought Russian energy helped finance Russia's war. That includes many countries beyond Europe. Reality is far more complex than your slogan.
100
Fco. Javier Ruiz @ciribulle.wsocial.eu · 19/09/2026
Russia's war was financed by years of energy revenues from many customers, not Europe alone. That dependence was a mistake. Now, about those "wrong figures": my source is the Kiel Institute. What's yours?

Fco. Javier Ruiz @ciribulle.wsocial.eu · 19/09/2026
Russia chose to invade. Europe made a serious mistake by becoming dependent on Russian energy after Crimea. Both statements can be true. Now, about those "incorrect figures": what's your source? Mine is the Kiel Institute.
100
Fco. Javier Ruiz @ciribulle.wsocial.eu · 19/09/2026
Yes, Europe made mistakes after Crimea. We know that. But facts still matter: the EU and its Member States have committed around €322bn to Ukraine, versus €119bn from the US and €20bn from the UK. Facts > slogans.

Facts matter. The EU and its Member States have committed around €322bn to Ukraine, compared with about €119bn from the US and €20bn from the UK. Perhaps the people who need educating are those who build slogans that facts simply don't support.

Fco. Javier Ruiz @ciribulle.wsocial.eu · 19/09/2026
I don't think I'm the one who needs educating. But thanks—that's what great thinkers are for. 😉 Banking Union, NextGenerationEU, the DMA, the AI Act and support for Ukraine prove Europe has moved forward. The problem isn't too much Europe, but too little.

I'm talking about common defence, a common foreign policy, energy security, a genuine Capital Markets Union, completing the Single Market and reducing national vetoes in key areas. That's not about "free money". It's about making Europe stronger, more competitive and more capable of acting together

🇪🇺 The Greenland agreement raises a bigger question. Why does an EU Member State rely on Washington for the security of its own territory instead of on Europe? A sovereign Europe needs a genuine common defence. #EuropeanDefence #StrategicAutonomy #UnitedStatesOfEurope

If the EU isn't working, why do so many countries still want closer integration instead of leaving? Europe doesn't need to start over. It needs to finish what it started. And every member should contribute as an equal partner. 🇪🇺

Europe is stronger with the UK inside. If one day the British people choose to return, they should be welcomed back—not with special privileges, but as equal Europeans sharing the same future. 🇪🇺

Fco. Javier Ruiz @ciribulle.wsocial.eu · 18/09/2026
The UK doesn't really fit into that idea. It already has a privileged relationship with the EU. What I do think is that it should seriously consider returning to where it should never have left. Especially now that people know they were misled—and that it's very cold outside. 😉🇪🇺
