The problem is when he ends up encouraging Mydei to pursue other relationships because he thinks he's not good enough, and when a nonplussed Mydei responds with "Huh? Why would I want that???" Phainon is too dumb to realize that Mydei has eyes for no one but him.

Low-key I don't think Phainon has it in him to be jealous and possessive of Mydei. His self-esteem is so low, he doesn't think his fondness is anything special. In fact, it would be weirder if people didn't like Mydei as much as he did.
