After 9 month sthe Leaderboard for Workrate in Women's Wrestling worldwide got a big update. ~90 days left to crown the in-ring wrestler of the year. 4 points for a milestone, 2 for benchmarks, 1 for catalysts. #wrestlesky #Senjo #Stardom #Marvelous #TJPW #AEW #Marigold #JTO #ChocoPro #IceRibbon etc
This is a list of 100 women's wrestlers ranked based on their wrestling match quality this year.
- For a true MOTYC I use the term "Milestone", it's the most valuable asset to gain for this ranking.
- For strong matches, those not quite a 'true' MOTYC, but so good they need to represent the base high-level workrate of the wrestler, I use the term "Benchmark". Unlike "Milestones", which are pretty much ****½-***** matches, "Benchmarks" can also include a strong-ish match, counting as half a point, so nobody gets ignored just because they have f.e. 10 ***¾ matches.
- For a special kind of tribute to the workrate sphere there is an additional category called "Catalysts". These are special matches where typically a veteran is giving a rookie (or similar) a great match to build them up, to boost them, to help them, however you might coin it. The selflessness and actual work to do that kind of a match with a less experienced worker is part of this calculation. There are many versions of these matches in pretty much every promotion, so there might be some "-"s that irritate, but it can also mean that their "Catalyst" was so good, that it got counted as part of the "Benchmarks". When, f.e., Big Hash Chihiro Hashimoto gives another talent their best match yet, it can end up in either category depending on its overall quality.

I thought about writing out everything on this list in this Alt Text, but there isn't enough place and it's a lot of extra work. I might add the list later as a "text".

Note: I don't consider WWE as pro wrestling. And even if I did, their "best" either don't wrestle nearly enough (I don't think an Io in place ~93 would be a solution) or are just overhyped in that bubble. But even if there was someone to mention, the company isn't letting them wrestle, they are letting them cosplay wrestling and act out stuff which leads to match implosions when they have to wrestle by accident.

"Shinjuku FACE" was a wonderful venue for (joshi) wrestling in Japan. One of its advantages I want to emphasize: THE SOUND Because it is rare to watch shows in a smaller room and yet being able to max out the volume AND enjoy the sound. If someone rebuilds it, don't forget this. 🥺 #wrestlesky

I'm behind on #TJPW, watching Suzume vs Shoko now. This is such original, great wrestling, so based & creative. If wrestling feels "all the same" to you, you're prob just ignoring multiple joshi promotions, which also deliver the most emotional storytelling/characterizations worldwide. #wrestlesky

I'm enthralled by the rise of rookie Reina in #SENJO. I haven't watched a lot of their docu show, but just witnessing her 1st active wrestling steps is probably the "story of the year" for me, with all the nuances told about her development and relationships with opps & partners. Just remarkable!

#STARDOM FIVESTAR Grand Prix #5STARGP in Hamamatsu, August 16th - Day 14 With over 1000 fans in attendance this Day is the last one of the block phase - the last decisions. [GP] Let's go Saya Kamitani! vs Hanan PHENEX vs LIONESS As an opener? Just wow. Hanan is going for it.
show graphic: Sammy presents FIVESTARGP2026 in HAMAMATSUanother really dark venue. Over 1000 fans are here, it a good city for Stardom, where they've been breaking 1k with tournaments (also tag league and GP 2025) and get about 750 with a normal house show. NJPW f.e. can double that number for their G1, but most other promotions struggle to get 300.

#STARDOM FIVESTAR Grand Prix #5STARGP in Kyoto, August 15th - Day 13 741, probably just ~a sell out, don't see bigger numbers (760 by nooj recently, but that difference might just be however you use the room). Rather really low numbers.
show graphic: Sammy presents FIVESTARGP2026 in KYOTOKBS Hall in Kyoto is absolutely beautiful, with a modern rose window, but I guess not religious. Just a very unique idea to give a hall a great background. Look up KBS Hall, if you want to know more.
741 fans are here, more don't really fit in the venue, and my screenshot is showing again a younger and more diverse fandom going to shows than years before.

#STARDOM FIVESTAR Grand Prix #5STARGP in Kobe, August 14th - Day 12 [GP] Let's go Saya Kamitani! vs Yuna Mizumori SPINKICKS vs LARIATS It starts with some good high speed wrestling, Saya held the High Speed title before as well. Many spirit moments, Yuna also does huricanranas (now). Nice! ***¾
graphic for the show: Sammy presents FIVESTARGP2026 in KOBE758 fans in Kobe's Sambo Hall. In May 2026 Stardom was here last, 595 fans for a house show, that did include Utami's return match vs Akira and a main event to build the main title matches (Suzuki & Iida vs Kurara & Hanan). In February 2026 Stardom also was in the Kobe Art Center, same city but different venue, with 436 attendance.
A more direct comparison besides these rising numbers would be to compare with last year's GP when they were in Kobe on Day 9, Augst 11th with 689 fans in yet another venue, the Kobe Geijutsu Center.

#STARDOM FIVESTAR Grand Prix #5STARGP in Sapporo, August 9th - Day 11 [GP] Let's go Sayaka Kurara! vs Natsuko Tora FACESPIRIT vs HEELPOWER A lot of effort from Sayaka, she hasn't given up. But the GP has shown that she is still pretty new in the sport. For months she spezialized in beating Saya.
show graphic: Sammy presents FIVESTARGP2026 in SAPPORO Day2These are pretty dark shows, but in this shot the crowd size is somewhat depicted. 1300 fans in two days is, like most shows these days, another new record. This year they had their shows in the Chateraise Gateaux Kingdom Sapporo Hall.
Same venue, last years Tag League event in Sapporo, just the one, had 455 fans. Last time they had two days in a row they sold similar ticket numbers (701+732), but that was a TV and PPV special with big title matches. Not Day 10 and 11 of the GP.

#STARDOM FIVESTAR Grand Prix #5STARGP in Sapporo, August 8th - Day 10 I skipped the matches (Ema & Waka vs Matoi & Iida, SaoriPoi vs Anne & Sayaka) inbetween GP bouts bc I just don't have the extra time. Day 10 is probably the weakest show of a phenomenal GP so far. But there will always be one.
show graphic: Sammy presents FIVESTARGP2026 in SAPPORO Day1Rina has thrown Maika into the expensive looking chairs in the venue. Fans standing arround them are taking photos and do represent a shift in demographics in Stardom over the last couple of months/years. They are in general now younger and there are a lot more (young) women being interested. They buy the merch, they identify with a fave (there have been some clear superfans in some cities) and they love the shows and interact.
Very different from times under Rossy Ogawa. Those demographics are more prevalent in his Marigold shows.
But, it doesn't mean Stardom has the biggest ratio of women in audiences, some indies are clearly ahead and many just prefer to watch DDT and such, and I get it. But maybe this new wave, spearheaded by Stardom after all, can also give other companies like NJPW the boost they need. They seem to do their homework in 2026 and generate it on their own, but everything in the scene is connected to each other.

#STARDOM FIVESTAR Grand Prix #5STARGP in Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, August 3rd - Day 9 Stardom again with strong numbers in Korakuen Hall during a weekday without title matches. But like the KH show before they positioned a huge main event with Kamitani and Watanabe. Will they break up?
a wide shot of the pretty full Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, this time there are 1249 paying fansmy moment of the show, even though there was a lot to see.
Saya Kamitani hangs in a tree of woe, hanging in the corner upside down facing the middle of the ring. Momo is slapping her here disrespectfully and Saya answers it in the wildest way, grabbing Momo's hair with both hands and then clunking her own head together with Momo's repeatedly!

#STARDOM FIVESTAR Grand Prix #5STARGP in Utsunomiya, August 2nd - Day 8 From now on describing shows will include some hints of standings because they might explain certain expectations. [GP] Let's go Saya Kamitani! vs Kikyo Furusawa SPINKICKS vs ANKLE LOCKS Saya's updated gear looks really great!
This time there wasn't a good wideshot to show more of the crowd, but they had 766 paying fans, last years they did two shows (~500+400) in one day. But many of them probably attended both shows, so 766 seems to bet yet another improvement in numbers. Saya Kamitani is standing in the center of the middle rope when her name gets announced. Her new-ish gear has more red details. It even looks too fancy for "just a house show".

The Continental Cup is a cheap concept to allow just booking whatever. Which obviously helps TK. You could just book these pairings of stable mates or 1st time evers in a real tourney with clear brackets, too. Just plan it, or don't do it at all!? But oversaturating is their actual slogan I guess.

My favorite #5STARGP story so far: Tomoka Inaba Tomoka announced her goal for the Grand Prix 2026 in #STARDOM would be going back to her roots "with a one-hit special kill!" Her roots? Karate. She's going into the tournament with a bandaged neck, it'll be a factor in her GP run. 1/20 #wrestlesky

If Willow wins the title from Thekla at #AEWRedemption, I assume we might see: Triangle of Madness vs Neo Genesis (SLK, AZM, Mei/Miyu) at #AEWAllIn #AllIn #AEWDynamite #AEW #Stardom

Kenny Omega + Kota Ibushi were interested to build a US dojo for #AEW. Kota also plans to create a new venue in Tokyo bc Shinjuku FACE is closing. Why not invest in a US dojo and Kota's venue to use it for excursions of AEW talents? (Though 95% should just be for jap. Indies to survive) #wrestlesky

Kenny Omega vs Will Ospreay - IV I argued for months: - 3 fights in Japan/USA/Canada, Kenny 2:1 Will -> IV: Will wins in UK - Only one time #AllIn main eventers: MJF, Cole, Bryan, Swerve, Hanger & Mox -> Will+Kenny left at 0 - international sickos will flock to it #AEW #AEWAllIn

#STARDOM Prodigy Rina with an expected great performance against the American Joshi Athena. It should put AEW's women's division in perspective. If #AEW is actually made for a long time as TK mentions, why haven't they build their own dojo/academy to create instead of take in 7 years?! #AEWCollision
