Do you have a winter monster? It’s cold and clingy, slippery and sly, gloomy and grim. But don’t be blue! Here’s steps to shrink it down - from eating good food, to laughing with family, even if everyone has to stand on their heads. #Questpit #PB #Q

What a helpful post! I would say to help my story feel more contemporary I would use cutting back on narration and explanation. Let kids infer emotions rather than naming feelings for them. Books being acquired today definitely seem to be fast-paced, voice-driven and more commercial overall.

What is working in my revised zombie story? The point of view, now told from the girl in first person. It makes such a difference in the focus and strength of the main character. Thanks for the help this week. I felt like I wasn't alone with revising. It wasn't as scary!

Did you successfully dig up and revise a zombie story? #KidLitZombieWeek

Cindy Sommer @cindysommpb.bsky.social · 05/06/2026

Things are going great! It helped me cut out an unnecessary character in my story. And I've been able to delete about 100 words, helping bring down the word count. Thanks!

Cindy Sommer @cindysommpb.bsky.social · 05/06/2026

What if you remove an unnecessary character? This one jumped out at me, and by taking them out of my story, has made it that much stronger.

Wonderful, helpful post! I think the most helpful question is What is the simplest version of this story? It makes you think about the main focus of your story, the most important part, not all the fancy sentences or funny lines.
