2 cases of public engagement A nest of white breasted waterhen chicks were "rescued", yet wild birds have a complex diet, plus the stress of sudden changes of environment, the chicks did not make it. Crested goshawk, beak broken and unable to open, died of starvation. #BOUasm25 #ornithology 🧵5/6

The Vets introduced us to BCS, we found that most birds that died from window collision have a BCS of 4 or 5. Meaning it's possibly removing the strongest from the population. We provided a new way for vets to observe injuries, through Daiphonization. #BOUasm25 #ornithology 🧵4/6

What happens when I encounter a wild bird on the ground? 1. Is it alive? Yes→ call wildlife centers for further assistance. No→ Record, Report, and deliver to national institutions for free. The specimen will then be processed to join the collection. #BOUasm25 #ornithology 🧵3/6

Natural history collections are a time stamp of now. In Taiwan, there is an average of 1500-2000 roadkill cases reported per year. With the increasing public engagement, we can utilize these deaths to their full potential. #BOUasm25 #ornithology 🧵1/6
