Sometimes I forget that Massachusetts stole a lot of town/city names from England. I'll see a cool bug post and get all excited thinking "no way, I didn't know that lived here" until I notice the UK hashtags 😭

Right, exactly! I know it happens a lot when people have pet rats and mice or animals that people also use for food (chickens, pigs, etc) too. It's deranged and disturbing making comments or threatening to kill someone's pet even if it's a "joke" The fact that it's not funny should be common sense!

It's hard to find a good parallel but it's like if you were really into birding and upon finding this out your peer starts talking about how they went duck hunting last week. That's not making friendly conversation, that's just being mean for no reason.

Just today a coworker told me about how she found a dying bee the other day so she flushed it down the toilet. Why? Why would you do that? Why would you tell me? Next time someone says something like that to me I need to have the guts to tell them it's rude instead of freezing up like I usually do.

I don't understand why the first thing people talk about whenever they find out I like bugs is how they kill them. I don't get if it's some weird attempt at connecting with me or what, but I feel like if you think about it for more than two seconds, you'd realize you're being a jerk.

Check in with this monarch (and yourself) again and take this as a reminder that it's okay to hang back for a bit. You're doing your best and that's enough! You can't spread your wings if you don't take your time and pupate first ;) #bugsky #entomology #lepidoptera #monarch #selfcare #massnature

Panorpa insolens, a scorpionfly, defends her delicious mystery lump from a patient flesh fly (Sarcophagidae). Wing-flagging in Panorpa is used for both intraspecific and interspecific communication, and in some species studied, these displays are often used to guard food from other scavengers

I don't know who needs to hear this but an animal isn't useless just because you dislike it! Every species plays a vital role in their native ecosystem no matter how much you might find them scary or annoying. :)
