Home from the hospital as of last night. My little man Bruce stuck to me like glue. I think he missed me. The hospital is no place for healing and rest, so far I can already tell I’ll be fine, given time, support, and proper pain management.

A grey Mini Schnauzer with a puppy haircut lays on my lap staring up at me with dark eyes and nose. His long black eyelashes are substantial even though they have been trimmed at the groomer.

Rest well, beautiful one. ❤️

Chuck Sanders @chucksanders.org · 02/10/2026

It will be a hard recovery, but my hope is that I have some relief in the coming months. I’ll spare the pictures, it’s a mess even though everything is healing well. I need to navigate work, driving, etc. but I have a good support system with my partner and daughter. I’ll be okay.

I have had a very tough week. I went in to surgery on Tuesday to fully remove my right eye and to get margins that would eliminate the sarcoma that was taking over. It was successful, my brain was untouched, and I am out of ICU and should be home Saturday. Hoping that I am finally rid of this.

I am very sorry this happened. In a way, I’m glad my mother passed before my daughter came out as trans. She had already done enough damage to me as a kid, and to my family as an adult. You tried your best, but it’s totally okay to keep toxic people away, even family. I admire your resilience.

A really nice evening at the DePaul basketball season tip off celebration. If you are in Chicago, come out to Wintrust Arena sometime, these women can play ball! Don’t worry, the men’s team got a turn 😀

This place was welcoming to everyone (except for Jimmy Fallon). It was always an adventure every day. I nuked all my other social media accounts because it was so new and fun. For what it's worth, you are a great follow. I enjoy what you share (and your passion for the W and other sports).

Oh by the way, please don’t add the paint protection or the extended warranty 😀

That will get hacked over and over. What a ripe target. They can’t even keep the FBI secure.

Little Brown Bats are super common here, you can hear their chirps and see them fluttering about in the sky around dusk.

I can’t believe that UIC even considered that invitation, given the diversity of its students. Thankfully it’s not going to happen.

This bullshit is truly disgusting. I am sure it's being done for clicks and money. Both of these men were iconic to me while growing up, I want their work and legacies left alone.

I know some motion sensing lights have a dial or screw or knob that can adjust the motion sensitivity. Check yours and see if it does, at least maybe you can get some peace.

I think New Zealand has the most beautiful money — both aesthetically & because each note honors a native bird: Hoiho/Yellow-eyed Penguin ($5) Whio/Blue Duck ($10) Kārearea/NZ Falcon ($20) Kōkako ($50) & Mohua/Yellowhead ($100). Are there any other beautiful currencies you think can compete with NZ?

Colorful $5 $10 $20 $50 and $100 notes with paintings of birds on them sit on a wooden table.

I have used it on gravel as well as concrete, grass, etc. It did great even on the gravel. I haven’t looked for an electric version but I bet someone makes one.

I’ve had good luck with Greenworks stuff, I have a 80v dual battery lawnmower that works great. Kinda pricy though. If you pick one manufacturer and one battery voltage you have a lot of choices with leaf blowers and trimmers and stuff. Sorry if that was too much info.

140

I also got sick of gas snowblowers, I got a battery single stage snowblower that takes two 100v batteries. It works great but the company (Snow Joe) sucks and it’s not supported anymore. But I can go up and down the sidewalks on my block and plow out my alley spaces without recharging

Problem with this thing is that it needs to be stored and it takes a lot of space. It also requires gas and the usual maintenance associated with that.

Chuck Sanders @chucksanders.org · 20/09/2026

It really depends on how much space you are clearing. I picked up a used leaf vac for 100 bucks that’s kinda like a lawn mower. I have used it about once a year, it’s a bit too big for me but it’s super effective, and it’ll chip small branches. It has no exposed blades on the bottom and a big bag.

A Cub Cadet CSV 220 leaf vacuum painted yellow with a black plastic covered engine and front vacuum suction area. It looks a lot like a walk behind mower but it has a larger bag and no blades.

Just wait until the equipment needs to be upgraded because it’s obsolete. That bill will come in a couple years and it will be huge.

Tomorrow (19th September) is #TalkLikeAPirateDay and your annual reminder that when we talk the way we talk when we're talking like a pirate, it's because of a film that was based on a book, inspired by an earlier book, inspired by a real life pirate from #Orkney! ARRR! 🏴‍☠️👇

I think this whole thing is about one potential hire (a friend or someone with connections) that has this very specific issue in their past. Just a thought.

Same, I hate early meetings. I’ll begrudgingly do it but it’s not good. And I’m sorry if I didn’t understand where you were coming from with your original post, I’m high on pain pills and maybe a little foggy, lol

000

That has served me well all these years, and provides a time buffer in case of traffic, trains,or parking issues. For virtual meetings it lets me make sure my camera and mic and any program updates are done so I’m ready. These days I can count on everyone being ten minutes late.

000

Chuck Sanders @chucksanders.org · 16/09/2026

I was taught from a young age that if you aren’t 5-10 minutes early for a meeting that you should consider yourself late. It’s not about showing up your colleagues, it’s about getting ready, in the right mindset, and mentally focused on the task at hand. Today that also includes testing equipment

I’ll take it! It’s been so hot and humid here that 43 F would be a welcome respite. It got down to 68 F overnight and it was lovely. Still pretty humid though.

Naturally, this is not for everyone. But we love our home and are glad it wasn’t butchered and modernized like a lot in this neighborhood.
