Earlier this week, we talked about the frustrating reality that several major Android games (like Call of Duty: Mobile) are currently blocked from installing on Googlebooks via the Play Store. Whether it’s due to missing developer whitelists or overzealous anti-cheat systems, having fan favorite apps unavailable on day one is never fun. But because Googlebook […]

If you are coming to Googlebook OS from a Chromebook, one of the first things you will notice is that your muscle memory might need a slight adjustment. While there are plenty of familiar elements, the vast library of keyboard shortcuts on Googlebook is different in many ways from what we’ve grown used to on […]

When you think about premium third-party accessories for your laptop, Logitech is almost always the first name that comes to mind. If you are unboxing a brand-new Googlebook anytime soon, you’ll be thrilled to know that Logitech has officially brought its Logi Options+ software directly to the platform, bringing a host of deep customizations and […]

When Google introduced Googlebook OS, the sleek, illuminated Glowbar on the lid of these laptops immediately stood out as a signature hardware feature. While it serves as a functional status indicator, it turns out Google’s engineers couldn’t resist having a little fun with it. Tucked away deep inside the system settings of every new Googlebook […]

All five Googlebook models have officially arrived in the studio, and to kick this first wave of unboxing videos off, we decided to start with the largest of the batch: the Lenovo Googlebook 15. While we got a brief, crowded look at these devices during Google’s New York City showcase, getting them on the studio […]

With the launch of Googlebook, there is a massive new operating system to explore and a lot of new software behaviors to learn. But amid all the new features, it is reassuring to see Google bringing over some of the most vital administrative tools we’ve relied on for years in the ChromeOS ecosystem. Specifically, it […]

Jumping into a brand-new operating system on launch day is always an adventure. While the hardware on these initial Googlebooks is phenomenal, the software (and my ability to properly navigate it) is inevitably going to have some growing pains both. Over my first few days of testing, I’ve definitely run into a few quirks on […]

As we discussed earlier this week, Better Together features aren’t working between Googlebook and newer Android 17 Samsung devices just yet. Rather than let our early testing stall while waiting on an update from Samsung, I temporarily shelved my usual daily driver and moved my SIM card into a Pixel 11 Pro XL. I made […]

One of the longest-running headaches in the ChromeOS era was the awkward divide between Intel (x86) and ARM processors when it came to running Android applications. ARM chips handled them more natively, while Intel chips had to rely on extra translation layers that often resulted in sluggish performance or outright crashes. With the launch of […]

One of the biggest lingering questions surrounding the launch of Googlebook has been app support. While the platform runs native Android apps via the Play Store, scaling mobile applications to a desktop-sized screen doesn’t always yield the best results. However, right out of the gate, we are already seeing major developers step up to the […]

When Google announced that Googlebook OS was built directly on modern Android foundations, one of the first thoughts running through my head (and likely millions of other mobile gamers’ heads) was, not surprisingly: finally, Android games on a Google laptop are just going to work. No more weird container translation layers, no more sluggish ARCVM […]

For the past 24 hours, I’ve been putting our initial launch fleet of Googlebooks through the ringer. There’s so much to learn and discover with a completely new OS, so I’m constantly falling off task to test, tinker, and investigate every nook and cranny I can find in Googlebook OS. This is a new platform, […]

As Googlebooks land on doorsteps and store shelves, one of the biggest day-one promises of Googlebook OS is its seamless continuity with Android phones. From notification syncing to app streaming, shared clipboards, and cross-device file access, the suite of Better Together features is meant to make your phone and laptop feel like one unified workspace. […]

Today is the day. After months of tracking code commits, dissecting leaks, and getting that unforgettable first taste at Google’s media showcase in New York City, Googlebooks are officially landing on doorsteps and retail shelves. Our review units were quite literally all dropped off minutes ago, and sitting right in front of me right now […]

With the retail debut of Googlebook just a few days away, anticipation around the ecosystem is continuing to grow. Over the last 24 hours, a fascinating benchmark listing has made the rounds. Originally spotted on Geekbench, a Samsung device carrying model number XE940XSA surfaced running Android 17 on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite platform with 16GB […]

With all the buzz surrounding the imminent launch of Googlebook hardware, a lot of people have been asking what this new era means for existing Chromebooks. In our latest video breaking down the future of ChromeOS, we made one thing crystal clear: Chromebooks aren’t going anywhere, and these affordable, capable machines still deliver unbeatable day-to-day […]

Google DeepMind has officially unveiled its next major frontier model: Gemini 4 Argon. While consumer artificial intelligence over the past couple of years has largely centered on conversational chatbots, image generation, and quick writing assistance, Argon is engineered for a completely different tier of computing: deep reasoning across complex, long-horizon workflows. Instead of merely generating […]

Celebrity tech endorsements are usually predictable, safe, and entirely forgettable. A famous face holds up a phone on an Instagram reel, smiles next to a laptop in a glossy print ad, and everyone goes about their day knowing full well they probably went straight back to their personal setup the second the cameras stopped rolling. […]

Since Google first introduced Gemini Spark as its autonomous, 24/7 background AI agent, the tech and the execution have been really impressive. The ability to hand off complex, multi-step actions across Gmail, Google Calendar, and Drive, or set recurring autonomous schedules feels like a big step forward for the agentic AI we hear so much […]

I had to run an errand earlier today and swing by our local Best Buy to grab a couple of small soundbars for the simulator bays at Proof Golf. It was meant to be a routine, five-minute in-and-out trip. However, the moment I walked up to the front entrance, I stopped dead in my tracks. […]

With all the excitement swirling around next week’s Googlebook retail launch, it can feel a bit tough to recommend buying an existing Chromebook right now. But when a Chromebook this good gets a deal price this solid, I don’t have any issues with it at all – especially considering the fact that Google is updating […]

With the first wave of launch-day Googlebook hardware landing on store shelves in just a matter of days, it would be tempting to think development work might be quiet while everyone waits to see how the market reacts. Instead, work on the next generation of Googlebooks is already moving full steam ahead. Just days after […]

A newly updated Google support document has been making the rounds this week, sparking a fresh wave of conversation across the web regarding the long-term future of Chromebooks. The documentation covers two significant details: confirming that several recent Chromebook models will be eligible to migrate over to Googlebook OS, while detailing that updates for the […]

When we spent hands-on time with the initial Googlebook launch fleet in New York City, it was immediately clear that each OEM took a distinct approach to Google’s high-end laptop vision. Yet, among all the clamshells on display, the ASUS Googlebook 14 turned a lot of heads. Weighing in at an unbelievable 2.18 pounds with […]

With the first retail wave of Googlebook hardware set to land on store shelves in just a matter of days on October 4, you might expect the Chromium development repositories to take a brief breather when it comes to new devices in this category; but that’s definitely not the case at all. As first spotted […]

Ever since Google pulled the curtain back on the new Googlebook fleet, two lingering questions have hung over its suite of Gemini Intelligence features: privacy and long-term cost. Because every Googlebook purchase includes a complimentary 12-month subscription to Google AI Pro, many potential buyers wondered what happens when month 13 rolls around. Will core OS […]

One of the most interesting hardware touches on the newly announced Googlebook lineup is the return of the iconic Glow Bar. First made famous on the original Chromebook Pixel and Pixel C, the multicolor light bar is back as a signature hardware requirement across every launch device from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. Officially, […]

Following on the heels of our deep dive into why the Duet m wasn’t delayed by bugs or software regressions, reliable leaker Evan Blass shared a fresh set of high-resolution renders showing off the upcoming 2-in-1 in crisp detail. While the general hardware styling matches what we’ve seen in earlier leaks, the sharper fidelity reveals […]

When Google first introduced Google Vids as part of the Google Workspace suite, it was positioned almost exclusively as a workplace tool for teams to quickly assemble presentations, onboarding modules, and project recaps without needing high-end desktop editing suites. But over the months since its introduction, it has only continued to grow in its abilities. […]

If you have spent any real time in the ChromeOS ecosystem over the last decade, you probably have a soft spot for Google’s original “Text” app. Tucked away in the ChromeOS app tray, it has always been an unassuming, zero-frills, tabbed text editor that simply worked when you needed to jot down quick notes, tweak […]

Earlier this week, we discussed the oddity around the Lenovo Googlebook Duet m and MediaTek being absent from Google’s launch event. There were a few reasons that could be behind the odd decision for both MediaTek and Lenovo to make this move; we talked through Google’s guidance for a single device from each OEM to […]

If you have been eyeing one of the newly unveiled Googlebooks after Monday’s massive reveal, Best Buy just gave early adopters another compelling reason to pull the pre-order trigger. Right now, Best Buy is offering a free pair of Google Pixel Buds 2a (a $129 value) when you pre-order any eligible Googlebook laptop from Acer, […]

With the official unveiling of the Googlebook hardware fleet, most of the immediate attention has centered on the hardware: gorgeous OLED panels, haptic trackpads, Intel and Snapdragon silicon, and featherweight builds from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. However, there is another major angle to this launch that significantly shifts the value equation for early […]

Ever since Google pulled back the curtain on Googlebook in New York City, most demonstrations focused on headline keynote features like Magic Pointer cursor gestures, Rambler speech-to-text cleanup, and Android phone continuity. While those features look great in presentation slides, the question every prospective buyer wants answered is much more practical: How does this new […]

In case you missed it, Googlebook pre-orders officially went live yesterday across Best Buy and the Google Store. But while everyone was rushing to check out the final pricing and spec configurations, I was busy digging through the fine print on the new landing pages looking for one specific app: Adobe Premiere. During the main […]

Yesterday was a massive milestone for Google’s desktop computing efforts. Between our breakdown of the brand-new Googlebook OS and hands-on time with launch hardware from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, Google made an undeniable statement about the future of its desktop platform. Yet across the website, our YouTube comments, and the Chrome Unboxed Plus […]

Today has already been an absolute tidal wave of Googlebook news. Between our full hands-on coverage of the Googlebook launch fleet and our more-detailed look at Googlebook OS, the stage is officially set for Google’s next computing era. While Intel and Qualcomm power all five of the initial launch laptops, a massive third player in […]

Today, Google is officially pulling back the curtain on Googlebook, opening pre-orders, and introducing a completely new category of laptops designed from the ground up for the way we actually work today. This is not an incremental ChromeOS update, and it is certainly not just a fresh coat of paint. Over the last fifteen years, […]

Today, Google is officially lifting the veil on Googlebook, and we finally get to share what we experienced behind closed doors at the media preview event in New York City nearly one week ago. This is not some minor, iterative Chromebook refresh. While the massive architectural shift behind Googlebook OS (yes, that is the new […]

With Googlebook pre-orders officially opening this coming Monday, September 21, the final hardware designs for Google’s first-wave fleet are leaking out more and more. While we got an early glimpse when Acer teased a dark silhouette on stage at IFA 2026, the company kept the actual chassis lines shrouded in shadows. Now, we finally have […]

With Googlebook pre-orders officially set to open on September 21, Google is quietly flipping the server-side switches on Android smartphones to ensure the hardware and software talk to each other seamlessly on day one. Over the past month, we’ve talked about early backend additions across various Google Play Services updates, from app streaming hooks in […]

When we got our first look at the leaked Lenovo AI Mouse back in July, it was obvious that Google’s OEM partners weren’t treating Googlebook like a standard Chromebook rollout. With custom Gemini buttons and RGB light strips, Lenovo is clearly building a tailored hardware ecosystem around their Googlebooks. The lingering question, however, was how […]

In case you missed it, we just got back from attending the initial Googlebook press event in NYC a couple of days ago and we will be able to share more on September 21st when these devices will become available for pre-order. But it looks like that initial press briefing was only part of the […]

When we first caught wind of the Qualcomm-powered development board codenamed ‘Mica’ and saw early Geekbench test runs pop up with the DX13267 identifier, all signs pointed straight toward the Dell XPS 13. The physical model number sat directly adjacent to Dell’s Windows-based XPS 13 (DX13260), but questions remained around whether Dell would actually risk […]

Less than twenty-four hours before Google takes the stage in New York City to officially unveil Googlebook to the media, the timeline for when you can actually buy one has finally been locked in. Earlier today, Google sent out an email blast to users who registered for updates on the platform, and while I haven’t […]

When The Mac Observer published its scoop on the Lenovo Googlebook 15 last week, my eyes went straight to the possible naming of the underlying OS for Googlebook and the other confirmed features. Between the 120Hz 2.8K OLED display, the Intel Core Ultra 5 Panther Lake silicon, the haptic trackpad, and the likely confirmation that […]

Tomorrow morning in New York City, Google is finally taking the stage to pull back the curtain on Googlebook – well, for invited media, that is. Over the last few weeks, the leaks have been flowing quite steadily with certifications, benchmark leaks, and Energy Star filings all giving us a decently clear picture of what […]

Over the past year, Google Vids has quietly evolved from a lightweight corporate video builder into one of the most practical and useful tools in the entire Google Workspace suite. We’ve seen it gain Veo-powered multi-clip video generation, deeply customizable AI avatars, and the ability to automatically transform Google Slides decks into shareable videos. And […]

With Google’s New York media event happening next week, the early leaks continue to roll in. Just yesterday, we saw how Bluetooth SIG filings confirmed the commercial branding for Lenovo’s upcoming 15.3-inch flagship, the Lenovo Googlebook i (15″, 12). Now, a fresh report from The Mac Observer claims to have obtained high-resolution product renders alongside […]
