Those colours are fantastic. I’ve never really got on with C200 but that’s clearly my fault and not the film!

I’m close to having a final version now, after spending some time over the new year finalising it. It shoots four frame sizes, 6x6, 6x3, 32x68 (35mm pano with sprocket holes)…and 6x7. I’ve also integrated a fixed front body with removable lens cones.

Hi Peter. Like John said above, I’d normally recommend a 400 speed film in most UK conditions, although I’ve used Gold 200 a lot with good results too. B&W here are Fomopan, colour is Gold 200.

Thanks Laurens. I always forget that my Insta posts don’t automatically cross post here too. I’ll put a post here now

They’re decent units, and certainly more feasible as a retail camera for me than using donor Instax cameras. The development can be a little uneven if you wind too fast but they’re definitely good enough.

I’ve built cameras around both their Mini and Square development units, but haven’t got to the point of being happy to release them. I did order a Wide development unit the other night though, so will be trying again with that!

I haven’t got the negatives back yet, but the spacing looks decent on the wrist individual scanned frames. I need to get my diptych practice in now.

Thanks. They were all a bit rushed but I really like the new setup, especially as I can shoot both 6x6 and 24x56 with interchangeable backs

I finally finished the roll of Portra400, and am happy to say that I’m now a half frame medium format convert 😀

I've posted a new video on my YouTube channel. If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen this already, but it's all 36 frames from a roll of Kentmere 400 shot on the beta #chromaclick camera on a hazy May day in Edinburgh. Please check it out! (link in reply)

Thanks Michael. I’m hoping to actually finish the roll over Christmas so will be able to share some results in the new year.

The tank is only 18mm thick and 114mm wide, making it very compact and easy to store. Whilst it stands up on its’ own, there is also a separate slot-in base for added stability.

Chroma Camera @chromacamera.bsky.social · 22/12/2024
The tank now has a friction fit lid with double TPU (rubber) seals to keep it watertight. The sheet caddy is now much easier to load and I’ve added a slot-in retainer for a small wipeable pad so you can make notes about the dev times etc.

I’m sending out this beta camera to a photographer in the USA after Christmas, with a cone for their 150mm Rodenstock and a pack of film envelopes, so it will be great to see their feedback and results. I also assembled what looks like the final dev tank yesterday.

It’s almost time to close the doors of #ChromaTowers for a few days of Christmas family time so just a quick update on the EasyLoad compact SnapShot and double sheet dev tank I’ve been working on.

I’ve got a roll of #Portra400 in this new Pano (24x56mm) format film insert for my Six6SWC. Assuming the test roll works as it should, I’ll be able to offer both a 12 frame 6x6 and 24 frame Panoramic option from one compact medium format camera.

As with all of the miniature cameras I’ve built for my Secret Santa’s, i’d love to keep it for myself, so I hope my match likes it too 👍🏻 #CustomCamera #CustomLensBoard

The camera has all the same features as the full size version; including removable 6x6 (well, 3x3!) film back, darkslide, slot in film caddy, Mamiya Press lens mount and ground glass!

2. One off half-scale Six:6-SWC camera for my @EmulsiveSanta Secret Santa match. I started building these miniature cameras several years ago, and have previously built an Advanced45, SnapShot, CubePan and Six17, so decided to go full-modular this year.

Another busy, and varied, day today at #ChromaTowers As well as working on two #CubePan #Panoramic 35mm cameras and a #Six12, I’ve also been working on two project builds; 1. Custom 8x10 lens board with embedded threaded ring for a large brass petzval lens.

You load standard 4x5 sheets but each sheet envelope is only 6mm thick, and considerably lighter, than a standard double 4x5 holder. As a result, it’s easier to pack/carry more sheets.

Cheers. Yes, there’s a metal 49mm filter thread. NFC is what a phone uses for contactless payments. I’ve been testing out an embedded NFC tag in my cameras which you tap your phone on to redirect to a help/userguide/gallery section for each of my cameras. Like a contactless instruction manual.

Hi Bill. These particular holders are designed specifically for sheet film. The tolerances on the envelopes are pretty tight so would need a different design for thicker plates.
020
Chroma Camera @chromacamera.bsky.social · 28/11/2024
The updated caddy has a deeper frame, on 2 sides with a cutout at the bottom for liquid flow, so will hold the sheets better.
130
Chroma Camera @chromacamera.bsky.social · 28/11/2024
The original caddy design I used wasn’t secure enough, so the sheet skipped out of it and then got stuck to the side of the tank with the liquid. I ended up using a scraper to release the sheet (hence the scratches!) and destroying the tank to get it out.

Thanks. It’s been a combination of parts that have all started coming together and I’m really liking them myself.

To test the new system, I’m also working on a new compact development tank, designed to take 2 sheets and use only 100ml of chemicals. The first beta tank wasn’t perfect, so I’m currently working on an updated design, but to come right back round to the point of my first post…it works 😀

Oh…there’s also a matching Superslim SnapShot camera, designed specially to use the new EasyLoad envelopes, which is around 25% smaller than my Standard SnapShot. This camera uses the same style compact lens cones and has a magnetic/removable ground glass.

Chroma Camera @chromacamera.bsky.social · 28/11/2024
This is the holder fitted into my SnapShot, with the envelope pulled out to expose the sheet. Once complete, the envelope is pushed back in and locks in place to protect the exposed sheet. You then just remove the holder, flip the envelope over, then expose the other sheet.

I’ve come to a design that is self-loaded, so you can use whichever film you want. - Reloadable, so is a long-term option rather than single use. - Considerably smaller and lighter than a traditional DDS sheet holder. - Has a standard 4x5 style holder, so is compatible with all cameras.

As much as I love the simplicity and compactness of Quickload, it has 4 main issues; 1: It hasn’t been produced since the early 2000’s 2: The envelopes only hold one sheet. 3: The only way to (easily) develop the sheet is to destroy the envelopes to get it out. 4: Film stock limited to Fuji

I love the original Fuji Quickload system, which was a combination of a single main holder and pre-loaded envelopes with single sheets of 4x5 film. I’ve still got around 30 envelopes of Velvia 50 in my fridge, saved for the rate times we have sunny days.

There will be an update going out to the mailing list soon, but I wanted to follow up my slightly cryptic post about beta product(s) delivering a result. I’ve been working on my own unique sheet film holder system on and off for the last few years and am seriously excited about it.

Another first today is the number 1 #FX617 (6x17 medium format) camera that’s being shipped later on. This cone is for a Schneider 90mm f8 lens, and excellent all round option for 6x17 and smaller formats.
