I needed a goat-apple-opera break from grant-writing and I bet you do too.
A white goat wish her head thrown back, chewing an apple, but sort of looks like she's singing. There are several other goats in the background, one other one obviously eating an apple. Four goats, two white and two black, all eating apples with their heads back and their mouths open like they are singing opera. Two goats, one white and one black, look like they are singing with their heads back as they eat red apples. There's a tall wooden fence in the background and green grass under their feet, as well as several other goats in the background.

@vicgrinberg Yes, I get those (not just that one) relatively often. It’s not such a new thing, I think it has been happening for a while. Like some others below, I also wonder how many people use things like that.

Roman Launch and booster return as seen from the Kennedy Space Center.
A rocket launches against a yellow sky. A booster from a rocket returns to Earth in the distance. You can see it firing.

I’m at the Kennedy Space Center to see the launch of the Roman Space Telescope. Less than an hour to go. They are fueling the rockets now. Weather is looking good so far. They just said 70% chance to go from weather. Sun is up and things are looking good. Exciting!

Two personnel recollections related to this: I was a young postdoc working in the Super-K group in Japan when these results were presented at the International Neutrino meeting in Takayama (close to where SK is) in 1998. Kajita presented the results. Being in Japan for some time, away from home […]

I have never seen the word "perihelion" in a weather warning before! Wow. I'm totally saving this to show my students why basic astro 101 is very practical sometimes (...ok maybe the prairies do not have a tidal flooding problem...but... perihelion!!)
A screenshot of a weather warning for Victoria, BC
COASTAL FLOODING STATEMENT
11:47 AM PST Friday 2 January 2026

Abnormal high tides combined with low pressure may produce minor/moderate coastal flooding.

Elevated water levels accompanied by strong winds and waves are expected, exceeding highest astronomical tides.

What: Risk of coastal flooding due to storm surge coinciding with high tides.
When: This weekend, with the highest risk of coastal flooding on Sunday.

Additional information: The South Coast is entering a period of high astronomical tides as Earth reaches perihelion (Earth's closest point to the Sun). Also, a low pressure system will cross the region this weekend. This falling atmospheric pressure will help further elevate coastal water levels beyond predicted tides, thus increasing the risk of coastal flooding.
