Software developer (mostly Java). I blether about: - dev and tech - politics, from a Scottish perspective - cycling as transport - learning Hungarian - slice of life stuff I’ll probably mention Star Trek and Sonic the Hedgehog more than I really should.

Help, I apparently need the phone number for ‘Scotland’.
Please note the information on their website relates to England and Wales. If you require more information relating to Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can call them for further assistance.

I wasn’t expecting my Barnardos donation to attract quite this level of criticism
One of those Barnardos coin donation thingys where the coin would roll down in a spiral before falling into the hole. It’s the size of a small round table with a big plastic dome on top.

It seems that @proton.me have fundamentally degraded the usability of the Drive iOS app, and slipped out the change in a “Bug fixes and performance” update. It’s deeply frustrating as a user, and makes it difficult to recommend Drive to those wishing to de-Google themselves.
An App Store review from ScottGrant89 and its response from Proton:

No longer works with files in iOS or iPados

ScottGrant89

For the past few weeks I've been unable to save to proton drive from my iPad or iPhone or open documents within apps from proton drive as it's disappeared from the storage locations in files. Proton have said they are working on a fix but that was weeks ago now. I'm getting fed up of waiting for them to fix a services they are still charging for and if it's not fixed soon I will have to cancel my subscription and look else where.

Developer Response

The latest SDK enabled version which brings with it faster and more performant uploads/downloads does not support Files app integration yet. We are working on it and it will be released in a future version.

My cargo bike is back on the road, with a new set of sliding dropouts. 35 £ for the pair. This could have been a very expensive breakage if they’d been integrated in the frame!
A pair of sliding dropouts, removed from the bike and placed on a wooden deck. The left dropout is larger than the right, with mount points for a disc brake caliper. Both dropouts show signs of use, with markings and corrosion around the wheel clamping points. Part of the right-hand dropout has snapped off at the wheel clamping point, rendering it unsafe to use. Each dropout has a part code marked on it.

Any ‘government’ email that links to a website that doesn’t end in ‘.gov.uk’ is immediately suspicious. This one happens to be real, but it makes it much harder to spot a fake email when the real ones also look fake. @aberdeencc.bsky.social @abshirecouncil.bsky.social @moraycouncil.bsky.social

Fuckjng hell 🤣
Googling “a cup of coffee is worth two kettles meaning”

 Google’s AI response is:

‘The saying "a cup of coffee is worth two kettles" is a Cockney rhyming slang phrase, meaning "a watch". It works because "kettle and hob" rhymes with "watch". The kettle, in this context, is the kettle on the stove (hob), which is a pocket watch.’

Laughing at “Marie (@youngvulgarian.marieleconte.com), you’re an expert on people going mad online”, because @skeetsapp.com has a bug where replies to deleted posts show up as regular posts and it makes the reply authors appear utterly deranged, and this is the screenshot I took to illustrate this.

I love the concept behind Pop! OS Shell’s window tiling, but Windows PowerToys FancyZones wins today for making it easy to just not use the broken parts of my monitor.
A broken ultrawide monitor. Roughly 10 cm on the right hand side is unusable, and several lines of pixels in the bottom 5 cm are non-functional. The FancyZones editor is open, with the part of the screen that remains functional split into six zones.
