Saturday, September 12th downtown Carson City for Indivisible's Solidarity Saturday.
Selfie of me, a smiling bearded clergyman in a black clerical shirt and collar, wearing a stole striped in magenta, purple, and lavender. I'm holding a white hand-lettered sign reading "JUSTICE FOR" in blue and orange marker, with "Mother" handwritten beside a taped-on photo of Renee Good, mostly cut off at the bottom of the frame. Behind me on a sunny downtown sidewalk, another protester in sunglasses and a cap holds a sign, with more signs down the street. A black lamppost carries a "Visit Carson City NV" banner and a small American flag, under large green trees and a blue sky.

An old friend reminded me of the time I read the Mission Yearbook of Prayer at Presbytery worship. It used the word 'Lebanese' twice. The first time I read it 'Lesbian,' folks let it slide. Then: 'We could hear the guns of the Lesbian Army in the distance.' Brought down the house.

Three Cheers for Trinity Sunday.
Shield of the Trinity (Scutum Fidei): medieval triangular diagram showing a central circle labeled “God” connected by “is” lines to three outer circles labeled “Father,” “Son,” and “Holy Spirit,” while the lines between the three outer circles read “is not,” visually teaching that each Person is fully God yet distinct from one another.

Today, Episcopal Priest The Rev. Dr. Donna L. McNiel in Carson City, Nevada: We cannot separate the religious and the political. We are seeing that writ large today—literally today as Christian Nationalists gather in the nation's capital to proclaim a theology that violates everything Jesus taught.
A priest in white vestments elevates the bread during a communion service at a church altar. The altar cloth reads 'Alleluias' in gold lettering. Behind the officiant are three ornate stained glass windows depicting a dove, a chalice, and a Christian monogram. Two lit candles and a silver chalice sit on the altar. A woman in a floral top stands to the left.

Collar on. Stole on. Showing up. Another day out of the office. A rainbow against the ICEy storm troopers. 🌈
A selfie taken at a street protest on a sunny day. In the foreground, a bearded person wearing a clerical collar and a genderqueer pride stole (purple, white, and grey stripes) with a body camera clipped to their collar. Behind them, a protester dressed in a taco costume — tortilla-shaped outfit and yellow lettuce hat — holds a handwritten sign reading "The Iran War is Not a Game / Gas Prices are Going Up / Groceries Keep Going Up / Healthcare & Elections Keep Going Up / Our Seniors are Dying." Other protesters with signs are visible in the background along a small-town main street.

May 4, 1970. Four students shot dead by the National Guard on their own campus. The nation was shaken to its core — government killing unarmed kids felt unthinkable. Fifty-six years later, the anniversary passes like any other Monday. Maybe that's the most chilling part.

The Whether Man Defense Doctrine: A ceasefire stops the 60-day War Powers clock. So technically you can run a war like the weather forecast: Ceasefire today with a chance of Light Piracy. High pressure Blockade moving in by Thursday with a chance of scattered War.
Meme titled "Whether Man" — a pun on "weatherman." A man in a white dress shirt and red tie holds a microphone and points toward the viewer. He is overlaid on a game show-style grid of options, each with an icon: "WAR!" (sword), "Ce(ase Fire)" (partially obscured, with a white flag), "Blockade" (brick wall with the text "All Your Base Are Belong to Us"), "Light Piracy" (skull-and-crossbones flag), and "(St)op Clock" (analog clock, no hands, partially obscured). The humor implies the man is presenting geopolitical conflict options like a weather forecast.

I tried to fill out a simple state form and hit a maze of buttons, links, and “You need to complete another form before this form can be completed.” Ended up needing AI just to navigate it. At this point, I’m not the user—I’m the keyboard between two AIs in a paperwork Thunderdome.
AI-generated image of a worried human sitting at a keyboard between two robots in a gritty, arena-like setting. One robot leans in whispering into the human’s ear, while the other focuses on the keyboard, feeding glowing text toward it. The human looks overwhelmed, caught between the two AIs as cables connect them all, suggesting he is acting as the go-between.

I get so many of those “free piano, just pay moving” messages each week that I’ve started referring the scammers to each other. Somewhere out there is a glorious field… filled with grand pianos… and every scammer waiting for the other one to cover delivery. It’s the circle of grift. 🎹
AI-generated parody image inspired by a Lion King–style scene. A baboon-like figure stands on a high rock cliff at sunset, dramatically holding a grand piano overhead. Below, a crowd of people—portrayed as scammers—gather with phones raised, surrounded by dozens of pianos scattered across a grassy field. Delivery trucks, a forklift, and moving equipment are visible throughout, suggesting a chaotic “piano giveaway” landscape. The scene has warm golden lighting and a humorous, over-the-top tone.

If F1 is a hit, the prequel must be ESC. Left of F1 on the keyboard, so canonically earlier, which makes more sense than most prequels. Tragically, ESC is SO realistic that even the trailers exit full screen immediately.
Parody action movie poster titled “ESC.” A giant computer ESC key is reimagined as a car speeding through a traffic jam on a city street, with explosions and dramatic lighting behind it. Two serious-looking drivers flank the scene in their cars. Text at the top reads “Just when everything is stalled…” and the title “ESC” appears boldly at the bottom with the tagline “The key to getting ahead.” Fine print jokes reference keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl+Alt+Delete and “Quick Exit.”

We may not make the Stated Clerk head of staff, but during onboarding Microsoft apparently made her something even more powerful: organizer of the family group, with authority over our screen time.
Screenshot from Microsoft Family Safety showing the message “Karen is now part of your family group.” Below, it says Karen has joined as an organizer and lists powers including the ability to set screen time limits. The image is humorous in context because it makes an incoming church leader sound like she has parental control authority over everyone’s devices.

As Stated Clerk of the Presbytery of Nevada, I have reached the level of church governance where I must revise the docket to allow time for wardrobe changes. Presbyterian polity remains both decent, orderly, and unexpectedly fabulous.
A group of adults stands indoors against a wood-paneled wall dressed in superhero costumes, including Batman, Aquaman, Superman, Spider-Man, Wonder Woman, Batgirl, the Flash, Supergirl, and others. Nothing like a triumphant blog post from Microsoft about the hardware now needed to undo the massive slowdown caused by BitLocker encryption automatically enabled on your Windows 11 machine. But sure. Cue the confetti cannons. 🎊 techcommunity.microsoft.com/blog/windows...
Bar chart titled “Average Cycles Per IO comparison.” Three vertical bars compare processing cost: no BitLocker at about 380,000 CPU cycles per I/O, hardware-accelerated BitLocker at roughly 450,000 cycles (slightly higher than no encryption), and software-based BitLocker dramatically higher at around 1.8–1.9 million cycles. The chart highlights the huge jump in processing cost between no encryption and software BitLocker, while hardware acceleration stays much closer to the unencrypted baseline.

Hope everyone had a neat Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving Potluck Prayer 11/27/2025

Gracious God, on this day of gratitude, we remember how strangers were once welcomed and fed on this land, and we give thanks for that spirit of generosity that still guides us.

Thank you for this food, and for every hand—near and far, immigrant and neighbor—that planted, harvested, prepared, and shared it.

Thank you for the freedoms we enjoy, the safety we know, and the blessings of this country.

Thank you for friends and family, for the community of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, and for John and Susan who hospitality brings us together today.

Calm our hearts, deepen our gratitude, and let this meal draw us closer to you and to one another.
Amen.
