Went back for thirds as the Gloucestershire Long-tailed Shrike was only 10 minutes from our hotel which we booked a little while back to celebrate my eldests 21st. By far the best views I have had. Vicious little thing. #rarebirdsuk.

I’m always surprised quite how late our Sanderling can go through. At the reservoir this morning. #surreybirds

Well that was unexpected. Broad-billed Sandpiper at QE2 (Walton) this afternoon. Think was taken by a Peregrine a few minutes later. #surreybirds #rarebirdsUK. The definition of inland reservoir patch gold. Almost like the Enhanced Games!!

The bank holiday weekend was quieter than I’d hoped. Swifts in good numbers at Island Barn Res. This local Barwit a classic inland passage highlight. #surreybirds

All a bit sunny around island Barn for much action. Seems to be a good spring for Lesser whitethroat. The Med Gull only thing remotely photographable. #surreybirds

And a Dunlin at the reservoir today along with another? Whimbrel and Greenshank. These very tame waders a real highlight of inland spring birding #surreybirds

Had a fab day out twitching in north Kent today. Just missed out on the Margate Swifts but the Seasalter Desert Wheater in the soft evening light more than made up for it. #rarebirdsuk #kentbirding #ukbirding

Been a good couple of days on Shetland since coming off Foula. The SibeThrush was just wonderful and the Unst Blackpoll showed quite well on the seaweed after giving us the runaround. #RarebirdsUK #ShetlandBirds

We were hoping that the storm would deliver something from the west. And it did. Swainson’sThrush Foula today. Very difficult to get close too, hence the most record or record shots. #RareBirdsUk

This Golden Plover in the fog was a nice surprise this afternoon. Not been a classic year on the Walton patch (for me anyway) so you have to take your small wins when you can. #surreybirds

Had the day off work so had a few hours at the local reservoirs. Highlight was a Peregrine tucking into a Parakeet. Quiet otherwise. #surreybirds

Our first week on Foula is the quietest ive had in 30 odd trips up in Shetland. Still this RB Fly may be a harbinger of things to come. In habitat and a bit closer. #birdingscotland #birdingshetland

A satisfying weekend at the local reservoirs. 2 Sandwich Tern over Island Barn on Friday and then a local Turnstone and Curlew. Haven’t had the later at the res for a couple of years now. #SurreyBirds
