I've managed to go without seeing a single one of these Angel Studios films, no matter how popular or acclaimed or ridiculed they are. No Sound of Freedom, no Runner, no Andy Serkis' Animal Farm. I just cannot be bothered giving my time or money to this Bible-belt cabal studio. I think I'm happy.

I wish we had actual Asylum movies, instead of the Angel Studios trash pretending to be real movies but feel like the fake films in 90s sitcoms

Tuesday night at the movies and about 100 or more people pile out of one cinema, and definitely younger than 30, and most are still hanging about the foyer, talking intensely about Obsession. warms my heart that cinema’s future is alive and well.

no one is prepared for how Citizen Vigilante, the new Uwe Boll movie starring Armie Hammer, is this year’s War of the Worlds. hilariously incompetent on all levels, but also racist, sexist, and pitifully hateful out-of-pocket Did a Muslim teenager stab Uwe’s dog or something? What the fuck.

All the directors Cubby hired were workhorses by design. Get the films in under-budget, on-time and with only the slightest flourishes. It was still the same until maybe Martin Campbell but definitely Sam Mendes.

Look you’re raising interesting points. I also thought the same about how many times they keep crashing. Perhaps a lot of their initial contact was about desperate communication, and they figured this method was the best for us in our war-mongering state. Also our devices connect us today.
000
Christopher John @christopherj0hn.bsky.social · 14/06/2026
no one would understand it. its scary and cannot communicate without Daniel and Margaret. that’s why they exist.
100
Christopher John @christopherj0hn.bsky.social · 14/06/2026
the purpose of the videos is not to only prove the existence. its to show the awe but also the horror. the majesty and the cruelty. how we are capable of inflicting this on ourselves and beings from another planet. plus also you expose that alien at a time of war, it’ll turn into another disaster

Christopher John @christopherj0hn.bsky.social · 14/06/2026
agree to disagree. i was immensely moved by the approach
100
Christopher John @christopherj0hn.bsky.social · 14/06/2026
this isn’t ET. its not a boy and his dog. its adult humans struggling to connect. Hugo multiple times references how he is being communicated to by one of the aliens. not hard to put two and two together
100
Christopher John @christopherj0hn.bsky.social · 14/06/2026
okay so i did a little digging & it is stated at some point that the alien (In Vivo 17) was released with Hugo 5 years ago which is why Wardex wants him so bad. and the drive heist by Daniel is just the newest conflict that we’re chasing. the whole movie is uniting the alien with Daniel and Margaret

Christopher John @christopherj0hn.bsky.social · 14/06/2026
i think its also related to so many stories in the last 2 decades of whistleblowers against institutions denying rights to information or to abuses of ethics. Even the ending isn’t one of wonder but one of pain. Pain that we are capable of inflicting that on innocent beings
000
Christopher John @christopherj0hn.bsky.social · 14/06/2026
look i’m not 100% but i will be watching it again soon and i’ll report back my findings
000
Christopher John @christopherj0hn.bsky.social · 14/06/2026
they definitely knew but video evidence (all of their files) being leaked is a bigger deal. the alien is clearly fragile and would most likely die from prolonged exposure
200
Christopher John @christopherj0hn.bsky.social · 14/06/2026
no it was most likely before the film had started. maybe long before. maybe when Hugo left as well. i’m not sure but does it need over-explaining?

Christopher John @christopherj0hn.bsky.social · 14/06/2026
because of the scale of the operation we can surmise that they broke the captured alien out as well which is why Wardex is so pissed off. idk bout the mind control thing, but Noah giving is proof of his character’s exhaustion from all the diving and seeing his dead wife earlier.

one is the work of a modern master craftsman of cinema speaking to a level of horror that one man could befall on a society, of power unbalanced setting fire to the world the other is one of the worst made movies of the year

Christopher John @christopherj0hn.bsky.social · 13/06/2026
how?
100
Christopher John @christopherj0hn.bsky.social · 13/06/2026
weird comparison. completely different films serving different masters. the aliens look the way they are because it is the classic idea of them. to embrace a simplicity of connection for the audience and characters to little green men with saucer eyes. its expected but its meaningful anyway.

Netflix can do as it pleases concerning theatrical releases. But filmmakers and theatre chains (including IMAX) must stop pretending that their Netflix movie will be the one that gets treated differently or gets the streaming giant to see the light. Yes, the leopard will indeed eat your face too.

Christopher John @christopherj0hn.bsky.social · 06/06/2026
Directors who demand theatrical releases for their films do not need Netflix. theatrical distribution is getting better with more variety of distributors continuing to dominate the box office AND awards season, far more than the biggest studios and streamers.

Friendly reminder that I haven’t slept with anyone in the games industry, at all, ever (unless you count my long-term boyfriend, who is an actor), but my vagina is still so powerful that it can single-handedly influence the success of multi-million dollar games.

it was always kinda hilarious how a few years ago Scott Stuber said that he and Netflix were “actively courting” Christopher Nolan to make a film for them. i’m happier for the streamer to just accept they are the modern bigger-budget equivalent of “direct-to-video” with one or two awards hopefuls.

Anthony Head as Giles in Buffy was one of the most formative characters for my late teens & early 20s. Head played the character with a natural charm, resolute strength, and gentle weight that I have never forgotten. A gifted performer of stage and screen. this one hurts a lot. rest in peace sir.

Honestly....kind of a boss-ass pick. if more video games are helmed by visionary-type directors like this it's all for the better. i hope.

I get that people do want a good laugh and seeing as horror is dominating the box office it makes sense #ScaryMovie is set to be the movie audiences see more this weekend. But #MastersoftheUniverse deserves your eyeballs more. funnier and more genuine in its silliness.

The current generation of (often self-trained) talent is finally picking up the ball that Hollywood fumbled and, via learning from Tinseltown’s generational mistakes, running with it. The YouTube generation still views movie theaters and a theatrical release as aspirational.

Box Office: 'Backrooms' Nabs $38M Friday as 'Obsession' Jumps 34%
The current generation of self-trained talent isn’t disrupting the theatrical system; rather, it’s picking up the ball Hollywood dropped to affirm its value.

What really sucks is that as far as Seasons 6 and 7 went on, despite a few interesting episodes, the Season 5 ending maybe should've been the actual end. Don't get me wrong I love "Once More with Feeling" but Spike's assault of Buffy and the whole Season 7 arc just do not hold up.

thinking about #Dunesday today A lot of conversation seems to be pitting the two together in direct competition, but can’t we have the positivity of #Barbenheiner back? Celebrating widespread interest in two big movies, helping one another bring more and more back to the cinemas?

I have no care in the world for this. It looks EXACTLY the same as the original film, just cheaper. I cannot fathom that this is what spoilt book-fans think they want, reportedly $100-million per episode to get a haircut and some bullying scenes? www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIu4...

I saw both this past Sunday in IMAX. OBAA is still great but that one needs space. Rewatching it is more of a task due to the length and scope of the picture. Sinners is an experience, a full showcase of the entertainment and emotional power of IMAX and cinemagoing. Still my favourite of 2025 ☺️

Currently seated for #Sinners and it depresses me that there’s practically no cinemas in the country (except for IMAX Melbourne) that will show this movie in its correct aspect ratio. Once again, Australia fails Black filmmakers

This is the inevitable outcome of transphobic ideology. It harms cis people as well as trans if you don't fit a stereotype. If you don't look or act a specific way conjured up in the minds of the gender critical brigade you are, what they consider, a fair target. www.thepinknews.com/2025/03/27/c...
