Some of the eastern box turtles I have been hanging out with lately. We party. Box turtle party. There ain’t no party like a box turtle party because a box turtle party don’t stop. #turtle #boxturtle #easternboxturtle #turtleparty

An eastern box turtle retracted fully into its shell. It lays upon the soil and the mornings sun hits the black shell, crested with oranges and yellows in a magnificent gradation that mimics the dappled light of the forest floor, from the right.

An eastern box turtle partially retracted into its shell. It’s snout and one eye peaks out. It lays upon the soil, its black shell, crested with oranges and yellows in a magnificent gradation that mimics the dappled light of the forest floor, fills the frame.

An eastern box turtle retracted fully into its shell. It lays upon the soil, its black shell is patterned with spots and irregular curving shapes of mostly yellow with hints of orange. The edge of the shell’s flange is chipped and irregular.

An eastern box turtle retracted partially into its shell. Its snout peaks out. It lays upon the soil, its black shell is patterned with spots and streaks of yellow that are almost symmetrical from one side to the other. But not quiet.

A black pencil drawing on white paper. A shambling zombie of a male adventurer whose armor is now rent and torn. The zombie is pierced with many arrows about the leg, torso, and head, with an arrow clear through one eye. A short sword sticks through one leg as the other sports a deep gash. Intestines spill out from a hole in the abdominal armor. The guts trail behind the figure as it advances. The forms of grave markers can be seen in the background.
