I don’t make political cartoons but I needed a way to vent some of the frustration and anger I’ve been feeling lately.

Christina White Art @christinawhiteart.bsky.social · 25/01/2025

So the last two years around now, I’ve been consumed with the need to create a video game. It’s happened again. I know I’m not built for programming but I can’t help trying. I have so many things I SHOULD be doing, but nah, my brain won’t let me.

I burn out on social media so quickly. I don’t know how people keep updating their accounts regularly for years. Anyway, here’s another painting. Let’s just pretend I posted it on a regular schedule. 😅 Oil on canvas 18x24” #art

Anyone else take the week between Christmas and New Years off, but now it’s Jan 15th and you have no idea what you did the last two weeks? Anyway, here’s another abstract I painted. Oil on canvas 18x24”

My first painting of 2025. I can’t be certain but I’m pretty sure this is the most important thing I’ll ever create. What do you think? 🤣 Oil on canvas 11x14” #art

Painting of a chip and a fry snuggled up on a potato shaped like a couch.

I have so many exciting plans for paintings in the new year! I can’t wait to build up my portfolio with all the skills I’ve learned in the past year, and to grow as an artist and creator. This piece I call “Remember me by my hair”. Oil on canvas 10x30”

Painting of a woman with orange-red hair and her eyes closed. Blue forget-me-nots are in her hair.

I’m always a little hesitant to post my abstract paintings because I know lots of people don’t see the value in them. I know I didn’t for a long time. I no longer try to find some mysterious meaning in them and ask myself if it’s pretty, because that’s all that really matters.

Trying to decide which paintings to show for this #artvsartist was more difficult than I thought. It seems I’ve done a lot of bird paintings, which is odd given I’m generally not a huge fan of birds.

I’ve done so much art lately that I don’t particularly like or feel proud of. It’s getting really frustrating. I want to do more than portraits of animals, but that’s all people have responded to so far. Is that all I can do? Oil on canvas 12x12”

Oil painting of a sea of umbrellas where one red haired woman looks to the sky and enjoys the rain.

I did this painting based on one of my book covers. I was trying to practice painting both faces and flowers with this one. I worked on a bigger canvas to give myself more room for details but her face still ended up small comparatively. Oops 😅 Oil on canvas 16x20”

It’s been a struggle trying to figure out exactly what I want to paint. Realism? Abstract? Somewhere in between? As I attempt to figure it out I did a series of animal paintings to practice with the paints. So far they seem to be people’s favourites. Oil on board 10x10”

Oil painting of a blue heron with hints of the reddish orange background peeking out around the edges.

The fun part of abstract for me is not going in with a plan. I have no references or colors I’m trying to match. It’s all about feeling. It’s also the hardest part about abstract, because how do you know when it’s done or if it’s any good? Oil on canvas 11x14”

Abstract painting of warm browns and yellows and whites.

Abstract paintings are so fascinating to me. They’re nothing, just marks, but there’s something appealing to them if they’re done right. I’m not sure I do it right, but here is one of my first attempts. Oil on canvas 18x24”

I have never felt so stressed making art as while I painted this landscape. Why? Don’t know. Maybe because it was my biggest painting so far, or I was using a palette knife for the first time, or painting a landscape for the first time. Hmm, maybe I know why it was scary. Oil on canvas 16x20”

The more I learn about the art world, the more I wonder if women don’t make it big because of gender inequality, or do women just generally have more morals and aren’t interested in scamming people?
