I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

The PM's statement that Canada is mapping out scenarios for US military violence is a game changer. There is no pretending that things will somehow go back to normal as long as the White House believes it can threaten violence against neighbours. charlieangus.substack.com/p/a-reminder...

i really can’t bring myself to care about AI anthropomorphism debates. “is AI thinking?” i don’t know. is a calculator calculating? questions for the philosophers. what’s important is that we put sam altman in prison.

If there's anything I've learned (albeit with resistance and avoidance) is that if there's something you should know about, the universe will contort itself in the most bizarre ways to get the information to you. Always. You have to decide to see it but it's gonna show up.

Poets Garth Martens, Eve Joseph and Billeh Nickerson gathered for this event travel through very different landscapes: a mother’s disappearance, the haunted rooms of childhood, and a hospital stay that prompts reflections on mortality, luck, and survival. With Renée Sarojini Saklikar.

Between hydronym and Wab's "like a band at a casino" it's been a good week for the soft but vicious political swipe. I fully laughed out loud when I hit hydronym when I first saw this statement earlier. Then I read it out loud to my husband, who went "oh ho! ha! no! ohhh" and I was like EXACTLY.

There's a very particular emotion that emerges reading the comments under a video or photo that's AI, like "wow, she's so beautiful" and "where is this beach, looks great!" Oh my god, Bob, you're killing me. That beach doesn't exist! The lady has no thumbs! Why are we so dumb! Why am I so sad?

What's a really minor thing that makes you irrationally grouchy? Mine is cooking videos where the person is wearing long sleeves and/or has long hair that's not tied back. Your sleeve is touching the onions while you chop them! Your hair in the soup! No one cooks like this! Chaos.
