Christianham @christianham.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Trying to persuade a friend to see the latest Mike Leigh movie at the upcoming Middleburg Film Festival. He tells me he's never seen a Mike Leigh film. Where would you tell him to start? This isn't an easy question. Took me a few films to settle into Leigh's style/approach. My answer: ANOTHER YEAR. 100

While my track record for strong predictions isn't 100% (did LAWLESS ever become the classic I thought it would?), this is the kind of movie that will be discussed long after this year's "award contenders" have fallen away. 1171

Thought I might be underrating the early Carnahan flick when I logged it, and I already wish I'd gone at least a half star higher. Late Carnahan not so good. 0350

Christianham @christianham.bsky.social · 21/09/2026TFW a director-you-admire's latest film feels like a big step down from the same director's early film, both of which you watched this past weekend. Could the fact that the latest is a Netflix-only streamer and the early film a great-looking Arrow Blu-ray have something to do with this perception? 200
