Cheers Claire. I would say still use the hot press, it’s good to understand as many of the materials as possible 😊

“The Blue Tarpaulin” Watercolour 10x14” on Saunders Waterford Hot Press. Most people think that hot press paper is only good for portraits, or fine detail work, but that’s not necessarily the case. You can get some nice soft effects, so experiment! #watercolour #saunderswaterford #stcuthbertsmill

The windmill is a tricky one, I made a few pencil sketches before tackling it. It helped to get the shapes and composition in my head

All of Wesson’s paintings look simple, it’s only when you try to replicate them you see how great he was. You’ve done a great job with this!

Thanks Claire. Homemade paper!! Now that’s something I would quite like to try, but not sure I can handle the mess that will inevitably occur 😂

I’ve just finished filming for October’s Edward Wesson study video. It was by far the most requested painting in this series and was a lot harder than it looks to paint, so thanks to everyone that asked for this one! The lesson will be available to watch on Patreon later this week.

“The Old Windmill” Cromer Windmill is an historic post mill near Ardeley, Hertfordshire. Dating from the early 17th century, it is a lovely reminder of the area’s rural heritage and well worth a visit. #watercolour #art #painting #aquarelle #watercolor
