Hi all! I don’t know where you are at the moment, but here in the U.K. it’s a lovely time of year. The leaves are turning and it’s cooled off after the insane heat waves all across Europe... XCH

Stop thinking about it and go to your nearest shelter. There’s also hundreds of cats who need homes. There may not be a lot we can do to fix the climate or divisive political culture, but we can save a life. Yours and the dog’s. Stay Oaken! XCH

Hi All! Look at this cool picture of a guy and his dog I saw paddling along the Grand Union Canal in London. A dog really is a man’s best friend, I think we all agree. I’m sending this as a reminder to anyone thinking of rescuing a dog from an animal shelter.

Hi All, Suddenly, I seem to be getting a lot of messages signed: ‘Hugs’ Maybe I was wrong. Maybe everyone really does need a hug. That was probably mean spirited of me and so I would like to now say, ‘Have a nice day… Hugs’

( btw …I’m not confusing touchy-feely-huggy people with out-and- out sexy beasts. Two totally different things). Oh, and the other one… signing an email with: “Stay safe” Seriously? OK well that’s my thought for the day. XCH

Has this come from the therapy culture? The Grammy culture? Over-sharing? I guess we’re like dogs. Some are Lone wolves (me) and others are lap dogs who like a lot of pampering (hugs)

Question: When did everyone get so touchy-feely? It seems like a new thing where people sign their emails: “Hugs” Hate to be a spoil sport, but I’m wondering if there’s anyone else out there who isn’t huggy. Surely, it’s not just me.

we went on in the afternoon sun and I had to wear ice packs strapped around my torso to keep me from passing out in the 90°+ heat. The only good thing about staring into the sun and being blinded is that you can’t see all the phones. Well, I always try to find the good in any situation. XCH

I think that’s called the dumming down of the culture. DUH) Anyway, I feel for my beloved Shirley, and the awesome Skin doing shows in this heat. When Pretenders supported Guns N’ Roses a couple of years ago (to pay for the clubs which I insisted on doing…..massive money losers but fun),

(I hesitate to say ‘frontmen’ because I would have to say ‘frontwomen’…. And that’s kind of a crap term, isn’t it? But you know what I mean. Or do you? Apparently, the term ‘mankind’ has had to be changed to ‘humankind’ so that people understand it is inclusive of all humans.

Guitar hero Johnny Marr and I have had long discussions trying to figure out whatever happened to ‘COOL’. Bring it back, say I! Sadly, I haven’t been able to make it to any of the Garbage/Skunk Anansie shows. What a great Bill that is! Proper bands with great lead vocalists….

Of course, there’s great music out there and tons of new bands. It’s not all computer-made. It’s not all choreographed spectacles that can easily be mistaken for West End musicals . Bands have gone back underground through no choice of their own.

Angeine de Poitrine featured, as did Newcastle’s jazz quintet, Knats. Restored my faith in current music. I admit, after record stores started closing down back in 1910 with the advent of streaming, I kind of lost the plot. Out of touch.

Hi all! I was moaning to one of my neighbours the other night about how I hadn’t been listening to any new music. Like a couple of old codgers, we were. Then I went indoors and turned on Jools Holland. How much do I love that guy!
