For the afternoon/ morning crowd. Murder On Skinner Lane won't be out until Feb, but here's a chance to know the main character, Virginia Cooper. You can be with her, the music she plays on piano or hears around Leeds in 1862. Come back in time with me... chrisnickson.co.uk/2026/09/23/t...

Murder On Skinner Lane won't be published until February. But you can hear the music that Virginia Cooper is hearing and playing in the Leeds of 1862. Some beautifuk pieces - and she plays a Smith and Whinkup piano, made in Leeds. chrisnickson.co.uk/2026/09/23/t...

On Reform UK: "there is still room for new tensions to surface if the pace of “professionalisation” happens too fast or is seen to take away the soul of the party." The only problem? They have no soul, just an abyss, a void.

If thugs of any description threatened police or fire stations or hospitals - or the people who work there - the authorities would stamp on them. Why not the same protection for the RNLI?

Why does this remind me of the fable of the scorpion and the frog. Really, they don't care if they kill many of us as long as they make their huge profits. When they say 'trust me,' it makes me shudder. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

OpenAI's Sam Altman says world 'right to be afraid' but 'should trust' AI firms

Sam Altman and other tech CEOs say there are incentives to limit advancements in AI, as fears grow over the threats it poses to humanity.

Maybe I'm very naive, but the AI company CEOs all suggest slowing the pace of development. However, as they run the companies why can't they just go ahead and do that, instead of wringing hands? They're the bosses.
