One year ago this morning... there were parts of NW Iowa with FROST on the ground! Lows were in the 30s and 40s across Iowa. This afternoon we'll be well into the 90s again! #IAWX

The hottest of the heat index for central Iowa on Wednesday, September 2nd. Clouds and rain kept things a bit cooler along and north of US 30. Otherwise another solid day of heat + humidity, especially by September standards.

There's more where that came from. The next few afternoons will commonly see the heat index rise as high as 105° across central Iowa. Thinks in the northern part of the state may be a bit finicky with clouds and showers at play. Either way, it'll be hot!

Upper 90s to low 100s for a heat index for the next three afternoons (at minimum). Hot and humid conditions especially focus on southern/southeastern Iowa. Wednesday's heat could be a bit more widespread across Iowa.

Warm and decently muggy for Friday afternoon at the Iowa State Fair but then two gems to wrap things up. Rain chances look slim for the final few days! #IowaStateFair

A couple toasty days are ahead. Sunday and Monday will be a couple of the hottest. High humidity levels will push heat indices into the 100s. 100-107 is the range Sunday. 103-110 possible Monday. Weather Impact Alert is in place for both!

An Extreme Heat Watch is in place for Sunday and Monday as the peak heat index each afternoon is expected to rise into the 100-110° range across central Iowa. We'll likely see this translate into a Warning in the next 24 hours. Looking like a sweltering couple of days!

72 tornadoes in Iowa, but that number is holding steady for now, even after Monday's storms. The US total continues to rise, now over 1000 confirmed tornadoes across the country. Illinois leads the charge for individual states with 180! 39 states have seen a tornado this year. #IAWX

Good news! Local 5 is back on antenna! Our over-the-air 5.1 and 5.5 channels have returned after some significant transmitter issues on our tower for the last couple of months. We know you've noticed and we received a ton of messages and calls! We're thankful it's back and online again!

A very un-July-like day for Friday. Gray, cool and at times, damp. A few light showers move through late tonight into Friday. Generally light, a couple heavier amounts hug the Missouri border. Highs will be in the low to mid 70s, slightly warmer in northern Iowa with the help of sunshine.

Some like it hot, some don't. If you're sick of temps reaching the 90s we'll find that relief by the middle of next week as high temperatures return close to typical levels. The long range, days 6-10, also hint at things remaining fairly typical to mid-July levels. #IAWX

Another heat dome is back. It'll push temps into the 90s, but ultimately the humidity levels fail to rise leaving the heat index only marginally higher... only by a couple degrees.

Storms form in the north and push south. With time, they'll lose a little bit of steam as the night progresses. Level 1 and 2 Risks of Severe Weather seem appropriately placed. Watch for spots of damaging wind potential. Also some heavy rain to keep an eye on for Wednesday evening and overnight.

Flooding from Fourmile Creek shown just east of I35 at 1st St. in Ankeny, IA. Emergency crews are present along Creekview Dr with high water in the area. Stay out of flooded areas as Fourmile Creek is still very volitle right now as water works its way south.

I can't stress this enough. DO NOT stop under bridges in severe weather. It's hail. It'll cause damage to your car. But stopping in the traveled portions of the interstate could get you killed. Just before 6 PM on the east side of the Twin Cities of Minnesota. I94 at MN95.

We've had some heat at points so far this year. We've had some humidity too. But we've yet to see them overlap. Next week we'll get that done. Are you ready for a heat index pushing 100? We're tracking next week for that.

Thursday all the way to Monday will be an active stretch with daily chances for rain and thunderstorms. Multiple rounds of rain will let totals add up and we'll watch for a possible flooding risk to evolve. Otherwise, severe prospects aren't that significant for any day.
