Hitting the target but missing the point as a global industry?

I think the biggest challenge in our politics is that neither is not classed as a valid answer. A system could be built where binary options are phased out.

Feet of Clay was the 1st discworld novel I had ever read. I do think it radicalised me, in a very good way. I remember the joy in finding a way to think.

I dont think this is Reform imploding yet. I think Farage actually wants to leave and run Reform from outside parliament and scrutiny. By not standing at this by-election it just makes Farage look like a child, tilting at windmills.

I haven't had chance to use the trains recently, but was like that just before covid.

Chris Johnston @chrisj1010.bsky.social · 01/07/2026
That sounds like luxury, these are the instructions to open the doors on our trains.
1. Wait for 'Door unlocked' sign.
2. Lower window
3. Open door using outside handle.

We were members of the EU in 2003 when our local services were cut/abolished. Police station sold, no public transport after 7pm most days. Its lack of representation and lack of accountability. One thing I hope Burnham can do is give a voice to people outside of London.

We need to fine the advertisers and exponential fines base on global income/value. Corporations are not people, we need to be willing to execute them.

Do you understand the use of the word peculiar in the second example. Do you understand the use of the word charactistic in the third example? Im unsure why you have chosen to join this discussion. Is it because you had to run away from the previous one? I have no time for you.

What do you think the other means of idiom are?
100
Chris Johnston @chrisj1010.bsky.social · 31/05/2026
Not quite, an idiom has a specific meaning but not the literal interpretation. You can have idioms that are also polysemous, but not all of them are.
100
Chris Johnston @chrisj1010.bsky.social · 31/05/2026
No, an idiom has a defined meaning. It is a phrase that cannot be literally understood. They are usually very cultural and dont translate well. "To see a man about a dog" is an idiom in English.

Your only coherent line is that you have added nothing in response to any post, neither the original (by a different poster) or mine You seem to be void of any intellectual input and purely a source of division Others are more deserving of my time, any reader can see you as a weak troll Good day.

Chris Johnston @chrisj1010.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
Also you haven't used an idiom, so the usage of that word was superfluous if you were trying to be flamboyant, and just wrong if you were trying to be literal.

Iran was a given concern as it was named in the original post. If you'd like to read through the previous posts to refresh yourself I will be happy to continue this in your mother tongue. If it would make educating you easier for us both. Do you even know what you are arguing anymore? I do.

Chris Johnston @chrisj1010.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
It seems english isnt your first language or you are looking for an argument that doesnt exist. Iran was covered in the first post you replied to. You seem to have forgotten where you think you stand in this conversation. Im tempted to call AI, bot, or too many sunny beers. Have fun.

Im not the original poster. Im worried about the conflicts we are seeing around the world. Nigeria, Myanmar, Ecuador just to name a few you've probably never heard of. I'm not doing this as a morality gotcha but the UKs involvement is minimal unlike other conflicts. So Yes, I do. But you do you.

Unless you have a means of sustaining the improvements and preventing any backsliding all you have done will be for nought. Only electoral change with a eye for PR/STV will make any steps toward a better country concrete. Anything less is just building elaborate sandcastles while the tide turns.

TBF the labour party isnt offering military and economic support to Russia Anyone who has ever sided with or recieved funding from anyone with links to the Russian/putin state is likely compromised The people of Ukraine deserve self determination, peace and democracy, they aren't a political pawn.

I agree rejoining would be a step forward, however unless the underlying issues that caused all the preBrexit problems are fixed it isnt worth expending political capital on. There are structural problems we can fix before Rejoin, and why would the EU have us back with those problems in place?
130
Chris Johnston @chrisj1010.bsky.social · 11/05/2026
They really arent. I agree we should look at closer ties with our nearby trading partners but acting like rejoin is a silver bullet isnt useful. Local businesses had closed long before 2010, food prices fluctuate, farmers were dumping milk to keep prices high. We need other changes before rejoin

Chris Johnston @chrisj1010.bsky.social · 11/05/2026
Not really, our local police station was shutdown and sold off in 2003, our bus services were expensive, slow and infrequent in 2005. Brexit hasn't affected the communities that were already stripped to the bone pre-2008. Remember "thats your GDP, not ours".
110
Chris Johnston @chrisj1010.bsky.social · 11/05/2026
Brexit too was a symptom of the issue, the extraction of wealth/investment/services from communities around the UK (esp after 2008), and people in power had scapegoated the EU (take back money/control/future). Unless there is honest discourse on why communities suffered, rejoin won't fix anything.

Thats usually a caricature of the fictional/bot online "left". I have never experienced it in real life only as a strawman to punch left. Everyone views themselves as occupying the pragmatic middle ground, even anarcho-communists like me.
000
Chris Johnston @chrisj1010.bsky.social · 28/04/2026
It's not that complicated. For the last 20 years we have seen opportunity and services removed from communities around the country. Public transport links closed, police stations closed, local dentists/high streets/council services closed. Global profit at all time high, local communities barren.

"As we shape buildings, and afterwards our buildings shape us." Wiston Churchill. The corruption of the London First, Britain Last establishment is evident. The disrespect London has for Britain is never more clearly laid bare. Power must be removed from London. Local parliaments will work.

People dont want Farage, the issue is that there isnt a major winner against him. The large number of Not Sure is the true story. The lowest is between Starmer and Farage (28%), the highest between Polanski and Davey (57%). We need to create an anti populist voting system.

All these allegations were known in the 80's, they were made in the Dickens Dossiar. Nothing was done about it then, nothing will be done about it now. You can watch Tim Fortescue admit to knowing about such behaviour on the BBC. www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/2820...

This Vice article from 2014, points out some of the failures. Its last paragraph should be quoted to Obama every day. www.vice.com/en/article/w... “If this keeps up there will be a revolution,” said the congressional aide. “That is Obama’s legacy, a thoroughly corrupted legal system.”

I'm not opposed 2 Burnham being in national politics, but we can't pin our hopes on a person 2 arrive 2 fix the flaws. We can build systems of accountability for every 1 of our "leaders," using the Just Cultures as a model. Turning politics into a dialogue with people and not something done to them.
011
Chris Johnston @chrisj1010.bsky.social · 25/06/2025
This is why systems of accountability and recall are needed. We are more alike than we differ. Under a better system, we can sustain the progressive wins and limit the financially created losses.

Currently, photo IDs are needed to vote (which has an alternative solution). If the trade off was the ability to extend the voting window over multiple days, and/or be able to recall politicians to hold them accountable, their necessity could make sense.

There isn't a NATO pot, that isnt how the model of funding works www.gov.uk/government/s... More support can be given by collectively freeing people & systems of duty. While an aligned block with truly uniform equipment does have systematic flaws, they can be engineered around and mass produced.

The Russians are losing to Ukraine and Ukraine has 1 hand tied behind their back. Russian has mercilessly bombed civilian cities, Ukraine has to only hit military targets. Russia as a credible threat to western Europe is laughable, but disinformation already has a body count.

Is there any clause that it has to be spent on material? Funding media literacy in schools is defending the nation, ensuring proper nutrition is protecting our people, reducing our reliance on imported energy is spending on security. For the inventive, there are many options.

By ensuring MPs (etc al) have to represent the constituency and not just a party, any MP with lower than 66% approval by the whole constituency would have to face a by-election. Combined with PR + STV this would make fringe parties/candidates have to align with the centre of the people.
