Stumbled across this dope scarf from a local-to-Portland-Maine maker, whose print is inspired by the cover of BEST AMERICAN MYSTERY STORIES 1932. Reasonably convinced I can't pull it off... but maybe you can. headingprints.com/collections/...

Imagine you and your family becoming the unwitting enemies of a QAnon-style viral cult convinced you're about to trigger the apocalypse. That's the premise of Edgar winner @alisongaylin.bsky.social's riveting new novel, WE ARE WATCHING, which drops today. I freakin' loved it. Maybe you will too.

WE LIVED ON THE HORIZON is now out in the world. It's the first "timely" book I've written--wholly unintentional, I assure you. If you've been thinking about AI, revolution, altruism, the future, gender, aging, and what care is ... it might be the book for you.

Cover of We Lived on the Horizon pictured on a desert overwritten with junk code. Text reads "Swyler achieves a seemingly impossible amount of sophisticated worldbuilding using an economy of vibrant prose. Singularly stunning and stunningly singular." --Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

@niidasholm.bsky.social had to force me to watch it, because I was (and still maybe kinda am?) convinced the premise falls somewhere between wildly irresponsible and outright unethical—but its clarity of purpose (and, presumably, its rigorous screening process) ultimately won out.

As a rabid Lynch fan and micro-budget horror geek, I'm legit shocked I'd never heard of it before. What's impressive is, the campy tone actually serves to amplify the horror, rather than undercutting it—the, ahem, memorable scene you cited being one of many examples.

Dead End is a movie so up my alley, I'm shocked I hadn't heard of it before @niidasholm.bsky.social found it on Prime. A campy, charming, Lynch-indebted indie horror romp that punches above its weight. The trailer gives you a decent sense of what you're in for. If you dig it, we'd be friends.

Edwin Hill's forthcoming WHO TO BELIEVE (1/23/24) is nothing short of marvelous—a multifaceted puzzle box of a mystery, as ingeniously constructed as it is joyous to read, that reminds me why I fell in love with the genre in the first place. Fans of Knives Out or The Afterparty should take note.
