Somewhere between 3 and 5, if memory serves—and the series never went full Nick Cave like that again. Which is somehow weirder!

Dot and the Kangaroo: a young girl is lost in the Outback and is aided by the Australian fauna. Cute! Fun! They’re singing “Riding in the pouch of a red kangaroo”! And then the sky darkens. Thunder far off. A sense of dread out of nowhere. The Bunyip song. HEINOUS. youtu.be/WtrYO-Mog60?...

Three movies (named X-Men movies; Spider-Man and Avengers don’t count) before introducing Phoenix, six before the heel turn. I just did Kevin Feige’s job for him.

People give Sean Durrie shit for his VO, that it’s flat, but come on: he was kidnapped at ten years old, raised by a mad scientist and fucked up puppets, groomed to be essentially a child soldier, became part of a hive, and then spent the next 2/3 of a decade KOed. That’ll flatten the affect. 3/3

Luckily, it’s a good game too. Combat is what I wished Bloodborne was for me: fast and fluid, challenging but forgiving. You feel like a Person of Power. The traversal is exhilarating—much different from how Jesse’s movement felt. That was smooth grace while Dylan LURCHES through the world.

No spoilers: Resonant is one of the best pieces of worldbuilding I’ve seen since…I don’t know—Annihilation (book)? I don’t think I’m too far in, not yet halfway, and every new area leaves me agog. Like Southern Reach, NYC is a changed landscape rather than a scene of destruction. (1/?)

I’m not living in Bizarro-World, am I? WB was structured like a Parks & Rec, with Work Jokes, and then the full-fledged horror scenes would intrude; am I way off base? That was my understanding—I just wasn’t in the mood to be part of a Social Experiment at 8:30AM today.

I finally finished The Final Draft, god forgive me—that is how you justify a second playthrough of a narrative-heavy game. I am now ready to play Resonant. Which I will not have for a month due to opting for the disc. I restarted the Lake House DLC but then? Control again?

So Catherine the Great’s mother (Gillian Anderson 👍🏻) falls out of a window under circumstances while visiting. Several episodes later, CtG receives a letter, and starts lashing out at all and sundry. We aren’t supposed to know it’s from one of her sisters, but it reads “Wo ist Mutter?” Womp womp.

The little bit of caveman German I know spoiled the episode of The Great we were watching last night. The show is excellent, btw—the closest I can come to describing it is Game Of Thrones (intrigue, humping) meets Parks And Rec (wo er kplace comedy, the workplace is the Russian Court).

The Herald of Darkness sequence is more fun, but let’s face it—it’s there as a WTF Is Thìs Dark Place moment, and as a recap for a game me and five other people played in 2K10. The Summoning is a crescendo building on AWII’s premise, as well as the promise of Control’s Ashtray Maze. Amazing.

Peak moment in both gaming and rock music. No argument to the contrary will be entertained. Goosebumps, for the entire sequence.

How in the name of Odin’s puckered eye socket is Widow’s Bay not a comedy. It has literal jokes. The scares are equally important, but if it isn’t a comedy in the vein of Parks And Rec, I don’t know what comedy is. I do, for the record.

I didn’t realize Resonance was coming out this month—I’d already committed to Wolverine. Luckily, the disc version was delayed to October. In other VG news, that Gundam game looks dope, and you aren’t playing as a Gunpla, which is nice. There’s a Knight Gundam in there, too, with a lance! Yay!

Tangential: bring Sabretooth into the MCU via a season of Daredevil. Serial killer in NYC! DD investigates; catches a brief whiff upwind of something human…ish? Whoever he is, he has senses as good as his own. Then adapt Daredevil #238. And strike the 90s costume from the canon. It is Assy.
