this is the video baseball game I grew up on (well, computer baseball game but still…)
Screenshot of Earl Weaver Baseball, featuring Baltimore playing at Seattle with Ripken facing Langston on the mound. The game had a split screen where 3/4 of the screen were the whole field of play (the left side), with the right-side featuring a batter/pitcher showdown from behind and above the ump.

Macaroni done (not quite al dente since it’ll cook more in the oven), everything mixed and topping added. Now into the oven it goes.

Y’all, as is our tradition every year, we made Francis Lam’s “Weapons Grade Ratatouille” with fresh late summer veggies and it’s soooooooo good.

Lovely anecdote from @joeposnanski.com today, and it’s so true. Life is zen, man.
Screenshot of text:

I think a lot about something Joe Carter told me. A few days after he hit the "Touch 'em all, Joe" home run that will never be forgotten, he was at home, and his wife said, "Joe, I need you to take out the garbage."
And as he walked to the curb with the garbage, so soon after he hit the homer that won the World
Series, he thought to himself: "Right. Life goes on."

Y’all! I picked up my old laserdisc collection from my parents’ storage and I had forgotten that the T2: Special Edition just might be THE coolest home media boxed set ever. #filmsky #laserdisc #homevideo
The contents of the T2:SE laserdisc set laid out on a white sheet:
- upper left, the black outer case featuring a silvery “T2 Special Edition” in metallic stencil
- upper right, the inner case cover featuring a publicity photo of Arnold as the Terminator, wearing black shades with one glowing red eye seen through the glasses, against a blue background
- lower left, the set notes front page, featuring the trio of Arnold, Linda Hamilton, and Edward Furlong all posing in costume, with Robert Patrick’s T-1000 partially faded into the dark background
- lower right, a laserdisc pulled from its sleeveThe contents of the T2:SE laserdisc set laid out on a white sheet:

- upper right, the other side of the inner case cover, featuring the metal skull of the Terminator appearing through a wall of flame
- bottom, the set notes opened up in a 3-page brochure, revealing movie synopsis, chapter titles, and additional movie info, with occasional movie stills interspersed, with an all-black background and white text

Important to read. 🙏🏻
Screengrab:

Upon reflection, I've come to believe that quality software is not about how many features something has or how quickly it is built but rather how cared for it is by the designers, developers, and product people who work on it. There's an ineffable aspect to my favorite pieces of software where I don't think of it is as feature matrix but rather as an interface made by a human for humans that's a joy to use. And when you build software with AI, it leads to worse software. Sure, it's faster to build initially, but I think to the detriment of the quality of the code and the user interface and the user experience.

Finished this last night. It’s pretty dark and bleak, but it sticks in your bones in a great way. Some really vivid and wonderful use of language throughout. (If I had to describe it, it’s The Terror crossed with a whiff of Jeff VanderMeer’s Southern Reach books).
Cover of the book “North Sun, or The Voyage of the Whaleship Esther”. The image is a black and white woodcut-style illustration of a large bird head staring at us with what seems to be a tear in its left eye. The head is poking up through an Arctic ice landscape (with icy mountains behind it) and it’s backlit by the glow of what seems to be the sun). The author is Ethan Rutherford.

A bit of exciting personal news. The movie I’ve been working on (as a producer and editor) has been picked up for distribution! “A father and his newly-engaged son may not survive a camping trip when their Jeep crashes, trapping the son underneath.” Looking forward to sharing more details soon.
A poster for the movie “Married Alive”. The tagline at the top says “Fate is no accident”. The top image shows an athletic middle-aged man cradling the bloody head of a younger man, who’s trapped underneath a crashed Jeep in the countryside. The image on the bottom shows the older man looking over his shoulder— it’s nighttime and he’s soaked in water.

This bit from @lukesmithf1.bsky.social about the Wheatley/Newey/Aston situation is bonkers.
Screenshot of an article in The Athletic:

“But should Aston make another change at the top this season, it would be moving onto its fourth different team principal in less than two years - while the previous three all remain at the team, just in different roles. It would also be its fifth overall since 2021, when Stroll rebranded the former Racing Point team as Aston.

Goddamn. (There are even more facepalm-y bits. Spinotti, you utter fool.)
Spinotti: It's, like, would you do an interview with Melania or President Trump yourself? Probably yes. It doesn't mean that you think the same way or that you approve of him doing what he's doing.

Chotiner: You and I are two journalists talking, essentially.

Spinotti: Yeah. So, I mean, to me, the experience was about, yes, being a reporter-being a cinematographer in a documentary, and doing my best to make Melania look visually beautiful with the lighting.

Chotiner: One thing reporters try to do is to spotlight ideas or news stories, and what you're trying to do is spotlight her face and its beauty. I do see a real similarity there.

Spinotti: Yeah. We were trying to do the best we could.

If you’re in the US, F1 TV is definitely included. From Apple’s press release last fall…
Screengrab with the following text:
“Apple TV will deliver comprehensive coverage of Formula 1, with all practice, qualifying, Sprint sessions, and Grands Prix available to Apple TV subscribers. Select races and all practice sessions will also be available for free in the Apple TV app throughout the course of the season. In addition to broadcasting Formula 1 on Apple TV, Apple will amplify the sport across Apple News, Apple Maps, Apple Music, and Apple Fitness+. Apple Sports — the free app for iPhone — will feature live updates for every qualifying, Sprint, and race for each Grand Prix across the season, with real-time leaderboards, season driver and constructor standings, Live Activities to follow on the Lock Screen, and a designated widget for the iPhone Home Screen.

F1 TV Premium, F1's own premier content offering, will continue to be available in the U.S. via an Apple TV subscription only and will be free for those who subscribe.”

Preach, brother Ed. (from Ed Zitron's latest newsletter)
Screenshot of Ed Zitron's latest newsletter, saying:

We are watching one of the greatest wastes of money in history, all as people are told that there “just isn’t the money” to build things like housing, or provide Americans with universal healthcare, or better schools, or create the means for the average person to accumulate wealth. The money does exist, it just exists for those who want to gamble — private equity firms, “business development companies” that exist to give money to other companies, venture capitalists, and banks that are getting desperate and need an overnight shot of capital from the Federal Reserve’s Overnight Repurchase Facility or Discount Window, two worrying indicators of bank stress I’ll get into later.

According to Wikipedia, by removing that section, that version of the movie remains in public domain.
Abridged version
As of 2025, Amazon Prime Video features an abridged version of the film with 12 minutes removed. The entire scene of George in the alternate Pottersville is excised and as a result, drastically changes the ending of the film. This abridged version is the result of removing the scene based on "The Greatest Gift" by Philip Van Doren Stern, which has a different copyright than the film itself, allowing the film to be a rights-free version for full access to the public domain.
