20 AUD according to AI overview (but AI is wrong about almost everything). They also entice people to vote by having 'Democracy sausages' available outside polling stations, apparently!

The problem was the AI detection tool we used turned out to be totally unreliable. Much of what it detected as AI-generated/-assisted turned out not to be, hence every such viva I was involved in resulted in the student being found ‘not guilty’. 2/2

I was an SL in HE until last year, by which time students using AI for coursework was a thing. If the AI detection tool we used when marking showed more than a certain %age of student’s work was AI-generated, then we viva-ed the student. 1/2

Different scenario but I once attended a job interview where they gave me a cappucino which turned out to be the most delicious I'd ever had, but was also as hot as lava. The interview was a disaster and petered out just three minutes in, but I refused to leave until I'd finished my cappucino.

Damn. I forgot that was happening today. Will have to give it a whirl next month.

That day was long ago in my case. Your post reminded me to ask my wife to trim my eyebrows. I shall be revisiting my misspent youth by going to a gig tonight, and old man eyebrows (or my Denis Healey eyebrows as my wife calls them) would have spoiled the youthful look I'm going for.

The alternative, as has happened in various places at various times in history, is, when the person the statue was originally supposed to represent has fallen out of favour, is to make small alterations, add/subtract an attribute or two, and rebrand as a statue of someone else entirely.

These threats are not regarded as some far-off or remote contingency: disastrous impacts, for instance on the UK’s food supply, could be expected as soon as 2030, it warns. One person who had seen the whole report described it to the Guardian as “apocalyptic”. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Why is the UK’s suppressed climate national security report significant?
Warnings about the catastrophic effects of vital ecosystems collapsing were not published under previous prime minister

Or, to put it another way, the two things are not always mutually exclusive. It is possible both to 'really believe' something, and for the thing that you really believe to be a conspiracy theory if you're incredibly gullible/an idiot.

This reminds me strongly of the emblem of my Lancashire ancestors seen here in the church in Standish with the initials of my great x7-grandfather.
Wooden pew end featuring low-relief carving showing a stylised (i.e. not naturalistic) owl standing with the body of a rodent (perhaps a rat) in its talons. To the lower left of the design is an uppercase R, to the lower left an uppercase. To the left and right off the pew end can be seen the red seat cushions on the pew, with hassocks hanging from the back of the pie in front. At the top of the pic, daylight streams in through the church windows.

Lovely. I became well acquainted with his work during my short time as a junior curator at NMW (as it then was) in Cardiff, having first discovered him during my Art History degree. I didn't have to look far to find that I still have my copy of the catalogue of the 1982 Tate exhibition catalogue.
Cover of catalogue of Richard Wilson exhibition with artist's name in uppercase lettering over an image (a detail from Wilson's c. 1765 painting 'View of Hounslow Heath) with seated figure in red with broad-brimmed straw hat in foreground. Grassy heathland beyond with a body of water just to right off centre and trees to the right of that. More distant trees in the background. Blue sky with large white clouds above.

There's no excuse for the ridiculously misguided belief that your job as a writer of drivel for a right wing rag gives you the moral authority to sit in supercilious judgment over others.

Not sure if anyone really rates any of them in the sense of aesthetically appreciating any artistry/creativity that may have gone into making them. Lots of people seem to enjoy watching them (though, personally I've no clue why), but that's not the same as rating them.

I was a Corbyn supporter but am very staunchly pro-Ukraine. As a French/British dual national, I am very worried about the prospect of the second round of the French presidential election next year being a choice between two pro-Russia a-holes, Le Pen and Mélenchon.

Yet I'm quite certain that all of our French family think of my sister, her children and me as the English cousins.

While I tell people I am half English and half French, I am actually 17/32 (53-ish%) English and sadly only 39% French, thanks to a French great-great grandmother having shacked up with a half-English, quarter French and quarter German bloke (and a arrière x2-grandpère who married a Swiss woman).

The ‘in particular’ suggests that this is not an exhaustive list, i.e. there are other things, perhaps dozens or even hundreds of them, that are also prohibited but which they are not going to tell you about.

Unless of course, one is preparing for the day when one has lost control of the whole of the rest of one's country, other than one's capital city, and when said city is under siege from one's enemies.

It never ceases to dismay how common it is for those who started on the left to veer sharply to the right in getting older. It doesn’t seem that long ago that Syed was standing as a parliamentary candidate for Labour. He joined the Tory party last year. Perhaps he should have stuck to table-tennis
