So, I‘ve recently completely forgotten about my experimental 12L window sill tank and I have to say after finally doing another waterchange and getting the water actually clear, I‘m impressed how well it‘s doing. No filter, no light, apparently no problems. #aquarium #fishkeeping

After working on it for almost an entire week, I‘m happy to present you with an update on the new aquarium. Planting is getting close to being done. I also have some future inhabitants already in the other tanks for the time being. #aquarium #fishkeeping

Currently working on my next aquarium which will be the last setup for a while but my first opti-white tank. A gift to myself and here is a bit of the process as a sneak-peak before it‘s finished. #aquarium #fishkeeping
The new shallow aquarium sitting empty on its stand.A different shot of the new aquarium with two mesh bags of soil laying in the back center. They hold nutrients for the coming plants and create some height towards the back of the layout.A shot of the new aquarium with the hardscape almost finished in place from a bit further away. I have now also added the light above the tank.

Handed in my PhD thesis today. I can finally go on holiday for a bit. To celebrate, here‘s an update of the 180L tank and the honey gouramis I bought some weeks back. All five are doing well so far #aquarium #fishkeeping #PhD

Will be taking a break from Bluesky for the next weeks to finish writing the thesis. In the meantime, have an update from the 180L tank. Can you spot something new? :D #fishkeeping #aquarium

Posts will be staying sporadic, but the green stripe cories are still a gift that keeps on giving. Some have really colored up with greenish-yellow fins but I have yet to get a good picture of that. Not a lot of time for that until the thesis is done. #fishkeeping #aquarium

I think you should show both your successes and mistakes. The cube I set up has taken very long and many almost daily waterchanges to clear up and for the water to stop smelling badly. I should‘ve pre-soaked the wood. Now I finally moved my Bloody Mary shrimp in. #fishkeeping #aquarium
A picture of my 30L cube from the last post I made. The water is greyish and murky from the fungus growing on the wood. The same tank after almost two weeks of regular water changes. Finally clear water. The Bloody Mary neocaridina shrimp that I moved into the tank. They are a deep red color. I have moved in five adults and one shrimplet.

Still on the process of setting up my aquariums in the ne apartment. Today, I finally set up the 30L tank. I‘ve had this piece of wood for years and have been waiting for a good moment to finally use it in a cube that fits it perfectly. #fishkeeping #aquarium

Another addition that happened kind of spontaneously was this absolutely stunning Apistogramma borrelli ‚Opal‘ that the breeder I got the corys from had as well. I‘m amazed by how quickly it can change its color! #fishkeeping #aquarium

Finally settled in enough after the move to set up the 180L tank again. Enjoy the time series of the first few days. I‘m quite pleased with the scape so far. The fish will move back in in a few days and then I have some special inhabitants planned, so stay tuned! #fishkeeping #aquarium
An empty glass box sitting on top of an aquarium stand. Freshly cleaned and ready for being set up.First attempt of Aquascaping the tank from the last picture. In the back right corner, it features a retaining wall of Dragon Stone, which is a type of rock with many holes and crevasses. Behind that is a piece of driftwood with three prongs pointing from right to left.In this picture, the tank is filled up with water. The substrate behind the retaining wall has been filled in and the front is covered by sand.
The water is still very cloudy from the old substrate and tiny dust particles from the sand.Last picture of the time series is an up to date picture of the nearly fully cleared tank with all peanuts visible. There are still two internal filter with fine filter floss that I use to get the water to clear as much as possible.

Moving has been nearly completed and I‘ve taken all previous inhabitants of the 180L with me. They took the travel surprisingly well. No losses, all colored up nearly immediately in the temporary holding tank until the big tank is set up again. #fishkeeping #aquarium
The temporary holding tank that all my fish got moved to directly after the move. It‘s quite empty save for one piece of dragon stone with Anubias and Java fern growing on it as well as a few pieces of wood for shelter.

Well, the move is still ongoing but I‘ve put together a 12L holding tank for the plants I saved in the progress. I wasn‘t ready to part with my Lagenandra meeboldi and Anubias Nana ‚pinto‘, among others. More Updates coming again soon. #aquarium #fishkeeping
The holding tank I put together for my plants. It is a small glass box with some fine black gravel and three small pieces dragon stone that hold the epiphyte plants: Anubias nana, the pinto variant, the variant ‚pangolino‘ and some Bucephalandra kedagang

Luckily, a friend of mine wanted to take it as is, so it still exists in this form.Last feeding session in the big tank with lots of yellow neocaridina shrimp gathering in the open, as well as a kuhli loach right in the middle of them.

Today I came home kind of late into a dark apartment only lit by the lights of my aquariums. I really enjoy the atmosphere it created in my room and now you get to enjoy it, too! #fishkeeping #aquarium
A brightly lit aquarium in front of the wall of a dark room. The light from the lamp makes this cone of light appear around the tank in a green-tinted light. Kind of like a lone street lamp during the city at night. It makes the dark room appear less scary, yet still a bit misterious because of the unusual color of the light. My smaller 30L tank sitting on top of the commode in my bedroom in the dark. The open top and the light makes it disperse much more than in the other tank, which has a lid. It still creates a pleasant warm light from the aquarium that lights part of the room and is a nice contrast to the dark parts that are not illuminated by the lamp or block out some light sitting in front of one of the tank‘s sides.

Finally remembered to take before and after pictures for a maintenance session. So, here you go :D All of the Ludwigia stems have been replanted, they‘re just not visible from this perspective. #fishkeeping #aquarium
The before-maintenance picture of my aquarium. The surface is almost completely covered by floating plants, many stems of my Ludwigia have grown out of the water and the left part of the tank is very dark from floating plants and big leaves from Java ferns. The After-maintenance picture of my aquarium. About 80% of the floating plants have been removed, the Ludwigia has been trimmed and replanted in the back so now only a few red stems Peek out of the Java ferns. The left side is also mich brighter again and there is more space for my white cloud mountain minnows to swim.

I have decided it’s time to appreciate kuhli loaches once again. Now that the front of my tank is no longer a vast jungle, they‘ve been wiggling through the Bucephalandra thicket more again. #aquarium #fishkeeping
