[Cars! They offer novel and expensive ways to be a numpty…] I loaded up my car’s boot with an old cat tree and had to drive, boot open, to the local recycling facility. I drove there slowly and safely, then relaxed when I got there, forgot I had my boot open […] [Original post on mastodon.social]

Would 48 cubes of storage (4x6 facing 4x4, with 4x2 on the back wall on top of a sideboard) be too many for one moderately sized room?
"It is the nineties and there is time for..." followed by a picture of an Ikea KALLAX unit. (It's a slight variation of a line from a faintly obscure video game, obviously.)

In other exciting news - far too exciting for one day - I have bought and received my work diary for the next year (or next academic year as I started work for this employer mid-year) and it turns out that this year’s colour is orange. Don’t tell the Dawgs fans.
A stack of work diaries, each year with a different colour. Last year’s was bottle green, the upcoming year’s is orange. As pretty as 2024-25’s lavender was, I do regret buying off-brand for a year.

One prompt was to devise quests for other teams to do and set the reward. Setting a quest that seemed to be impossible and which would not lead to other teams scoring points looked like the obvious play. Seemed to be. (…)

A favourite prompt was to find a NPC (I.e. anyone not in the game) to give us a prophecy to fulfil, and then to fulfil it. A street artist in Covent Garden devised and typed out poetry at frightening speed on a manual typewriter with great accuracy in return […] [Original post on mastodon.social]

One of my dearest friends said the nastiest thing about me tonight that they had ever said: the look I gave in a particular photo made me look, just a little bit, like Michael Gove. Even worse: once suggested, never unthought. He is far too close to being correct for my liking.
ABSOLUTELY NOT Michael Gove

@christianp Attached is a screen grab of a bit of my latest elec bill. You’ll see a box with the letter M. Whoever you’re with there’ll be a counterpart box, which is the rota disconnections alpha identifier. I wonder if yours is the letter E and that has carried through?

I managed to get a good niche crap pun about excellent British skeleton pilot Matt Weston, who is sliding very well, onto BBC Sport:
((Matt)) Weston has a hefty lead. He can still win if his final run is a bit of a mare. Weston just needs not to have a super mare. ((This pun has attracted ~95% thumbs up and ~5% thumbs down.)

I went to this last year and had a lot of fun - a local government-themed pseudo-LARP, board games, talks and more. This year’s event is near Bethnal Green on Saturday 12th July. There is a very clear left-wing vibe but it works perfectly well just as a […] [Original post on mastodon.social]

The image below contains symbols for three versions of the archaic Greek letter digamma, according to Wikipedia. I am tempted to stop saying "FFS" when things go wrong and start saying "digamma digamma digamma" instead, like it's the most archaic (but not anarchic) fraternity ever.

[The "once seen, cannot be unseen" department wishes to report a high-profile typeface crime] I quite like Formula 1, but some of the kerning on the graphics - specifically, on graphics that can be expected to be seen frequently - is needlessly rank:

So I have fulfilled a minor ambition, sincerely held for a good thirty-five years, and displayed a political sign in a window where I live. It's not a good sign - or, at least, it's very obviously very inexpertly hand-made - but a sign with a call to action […] [Original post on mastodon.social]
