Knowing it's coming doesn't make it suck any less.
Tweet from Andrew Baggarly (@andrewbaggarly.bsky.social)

Baggarly states:

"Mike Krukow's retirement is hitting nobody harder than his best friend and broadcast brother, Duane Kuiper. Sometimes humor is the best way to respond to difficult news, and Duane delivered:"

His tweet includes a screenshot of text. That screenshot is Duane Kuiper's statement which reads as follows:

"Maybe I'm happy he's leaving. Did you ever think of that? It's like the A's and Giants with the A's leaving. Now I've got the whole town to myself.

You know when something is really good and you're happy and having fun, and you don't want it to end? Like a good meal or a vacation or a movie? Well, that's what it was for us. We just never wanted it to end. And when you're together for 36 years, every year you know at some point it's going to end. You want to prepare for it, and you ... you just can't.

When he told me a couple weeks ago, honestly, I think my initial reaction was that I was mad at him. Because I just didn't want it to end. But I can't be mad at him for the reasons why he's doing this. There isn't anybody in this world that wants to do baseball games on TV more than he does. His body has just not cooperated. His mind has, but not his body. So I get it."

In the absence of that tiny act of accountability and inclusion, why do anything at all? Why hold a media session? Why face the cameras and reporters at all, if you can even call what Posey did "facing?" Why write a test that didn't need to be written just to get all the answers spectacularly wrong?

A stable of unforced errors, buried beneath a cascade of cowardice. The [antithesis] of meeting the moment. The polar opposite of what the fanbase deserved and needed.

There was a time when I never would have dared to utter the word "weak" in association with Buster Posey. Now I fear I need a stronger word.

Took me a minute to get back to this article but damn this hit hard
'And then the pageantry was over, but Magyar was still separated from the crowd by large expanses of empty space, the distance that Orban's government had so carefully engineered. Magyar started motioning to the crowd: Come closer, come closer - but people were already pressed up against the edge of the reflecting pool. After a few moments, the excitement and the desire to be fully a part of this historic moment became too much to resist. Some men hiked up their pants and ran across the reflecting pool - which, it turned out, was just a couple of inches deep. Almost immediately, hundreds more followed. They ran splashing through the water and onto the other side, filling the space from which they had so long been excluded. "This is your house now!" Magyar exclaimed.'

Great read.
But then ... the autopsy never went out.

News coverage has focused on why the DNC shelved it. My understanding-based on Dem-world hearsay-is that the truth is stupider than the fiction: No autopsy was released because there is no actual autopsy. The members of the "autopsy team" were in over their heads and struggled to put the thing together. What they produced was a loose summary of a bunch of interviews that were largely done without talking to the campaign or big spenders.

The more interesting question is what would an actual autopsy of the 2024 campaign have said?It is also true that Rogan's team kept moving the goalposts. The whole Beyoncé concert was actually an excuse to go to Texas (to go on Rogan!). Had Trump not booked his Rogan interview that day, I believe we would have done it. I suspect that it was Rogan himself, not his team, jerking us around. The folks we spoke to on his team were professional and gave the impression of acting in good faith. Rogan, by contrast, would go on to misrepresent our discussions: Some of the topics he later claimed we didn't want to talk about were actually topics we suggested talking about.Bottom-Up Messaging Works

The right thinks about many of these things differently than the left. They know the power of the implied brand and how to connect a "viral" narrative to a persuasive one. By contrast, we tend to poll-test our way into running a lot of mealy-mouthed ads about prescription drugs or whatever.

The right uses its vast social media ecosystem to organically "test" messages that have viral heat. There's a tremendous conveyor belt of content. Things that go viral on X make their way to podcasts, which make their way to Fox News, which make their way to the president. By contrast, Democrats find a message that works in testing, put it on the TV, and hope it moves people.Democrats will likely win the House this year, even with all the congressional redistricting going on. We may win the Senate. But those wins will paper over the structural problem: Our party still speaks the language of, and to the priorities of, people who care about our institutions and believe they basically work.

There isn't a left-right solution here; this is an up-down problem. The voters we need to win back are the ones we already had and lost: the multiracial working-class coalition we thought we were assembling in 2020, which has frayed badly, especially among men. They are waiting for a party that sounds like it's on their side against a system that isn't working for them.

That requires economic populism with teeth, candidates with genuine charisma, and-hardest of all for a party staffed by institutionalists-a posture of real contempt for a status quo we are arguably part of. And we need to do it without losing the new members of our coalition who joined us over the last decade

"Oh, this is unbelievable. The edit history on this tweet shows that Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif originally copied and pasted everything he was sent, including:

"*Draft - Pakistan's PM Message on X*"

Now, obviously, Sharif's own staff don't call him "Pakistan's PM," they would just call him prime minister. The U.S. and Israel, of course, would call him "Pakistan's PM."

Would be funny if the fate of the world wasn't hanging in the balance."

"In the blanket incident, Noem had to switch planes after a maintenance issue was discovered, but her blanket wasn't moved to the second plane, according to the people familiar with the incident. The Coast Guard pilot was initially fired and told to take a commercial flight home when they reached their destination. They eventually reinstated the pilot because no one else was available to fly them home."

Ever wondered why Trump needs so many golf courses?
Online complainant reported she was a victim and witness to a sex trafficking ring at the Trump Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA between 1995- 1996. Complainant reported Ghislaine Maxwell as the madam and broker for sex parties, clients of whom included Epstein, Robin Leach, and Donald Trump. Complainant reported participating in orgies and that some girls went missing, rumored to have been murdered and buried at the facility. Complainant reported being threatened by Trump's then head of security that, if she ever talked of what went on there or who she saw, he would "end up as fertilizer for the back nine holes like the other cunts."

www.theatlantic.com/politics/202...
Children were a moral fault line for many of the people I met in the Twin Cities-not just the children of immigrants, who are at risk of losing their parents or being deported themselves, but also their white peers in schools and day-care centers.

I met a couple in their 70s who told me they had never considered joining a political protest until ICE came to town, and they realized that their granddaughter was at risk of witnessing a violent immigration raid just by going to school. Dan and Jane (like many others, they asked that I shield their full names) live in a large house in a comfortable suburb, where they welcomed me with tea and cookies.

"When a child witnesses violence or crime, it's profoundly different from adults," Dan said. "It leaves scars."

Dan and Jane resisted the idea that they had become political. A better word, Jane said, was humanist. Their anger was unmistakable as they told me that the Trump administration was violating basic Christian principles. "It became clear very quickly that ICE is the Proud Boys, the Boogaloo boys. They've given them uniforms and let them run wild," Dan said. He attended a legal- observer training-which happened to have been on the day Good was killed -and now the couple delivers groceries regularly to immigrant families in Minneapolis. This past Friday, Dan joined thousands of others at a protest in Minneapolis, where his fingers were frostbitten in the -9 degrees Fahrenheit weather. One of those latecomers was a 46-year-old documentary filmmaker named Chad Knutson. On the morning after Good was killed, he was at home with his two hound dogs, watching a live feed from the Whipple Building, where ICE is based, a five-minute drive from his house. A protester had laid a rose on a makeshift memorial to Good. As Knutson watched, an ICE agent took the rose, put it in his lapel, and then mockingly gave it to a female ICE agent. They both laughed.

Knutson told me he had never been a protester. It seemed pointless, or just a way for people to expiate their sense of guilt. But when he saw those ICE agents laughing, something broke inside him.

"I grab my keys, I grab a coat, and drive over," Knutson told me. "I barely park my car and I'm running out screaming and crying, 'You stole a fucking flower from a dead woman. Like, are any of you human anymore?"

His voice was so thick with emotion that it felt almost as if he were telling a story of religious conversion. It reminded me again of the Tahrir Square protests in 2011, when so many people seemed to have reached a moral and political turning point.
