Slight fun-fact correction: the *U.S.* release was 25 years ago today. It was due to be released on September 25, but was delayed because, following 9/11, they had to swap out the track "New York City Cops" (featuring the refrain, "They ain't too smart").

Are the citizens of Pittsburgh pro- or anti-urban sprawl? Because most of them live in urban sprawl. My guess is they're just in favour of ladder-pulling.

There is not a threshold for climate change; there is a functionally limitless number of thresholds for increasingly apocalyptic levels of climate change. The best time to act is always now.

The idea of avoiding "the worst consequences" of climate change misunderstands the nature of the beast. Inaction leads to *accelerating* consequences. No matter what global harms are already baked in, the consequences of continued inaction will be *even worse*!

And it's ok that we're making fossil fuels cheaper because we're already doing more than we need to to cut our GHG emissions and prevent catastrophic climate change, right? ....right?

Any time Trump says anything negative about someone, he's projecting. Like here: when he says Canada wants to benefits of being a U.S. state without being one, what he actually means is HE wants to benefits of Canada being a U.S. state without it actually being one.

Trump says Canada 'wants the benefits' of being a U.S. state in his 1st comments since trade talks broke down | CBC News

The problem is, you *could* do a great course on the Bible as literature that was appropriate for high school students, but there would be too much of an outcry from religious parents if you did it right.

"More lanes decrease congestion" is a statement of fact that depends on specialized knowledge. (It is also mostly false.) If the judge took judicial notice of that fact, that is an error of law and should be appealable.

I'm amazed that Cuba didn't go all-in on renewables 20 years ago. Forget the environment, it just makes sense for them from a geostrategic perspective. Instead, they foolishly relied on Chavez and Maduro to keep the lights on.

I know little about the specifics here, but there's nothing hypocritical or illogical about saying that deliberate, controlled burns are good and things that start accidental fires are bad.

Also, there was an entire support system (that you rarely thought about or even noticed) doing your laundry, cooking your meals, paying your bills and organizing your time. Life is a lot harder when you are in charge of keeping yourself alive. Kids with less robust support systems tend to struggle.

I wish there was an option to block people for a certain amount of time. There's such a difference between "you're being annoying; please fuck off for a while" and "you are a social poison and I definitely never want to think about you ever again."

If that sounds ridiculous, it's because you live in a place that is so totally car dependent that you can't imagine anything better. I assure you, you can comfortably live car-free with a baby, *in the right environment.*

We don't want you to suffer car-less in a car-dependent world, we want the world to be less car-dependent. We want your doctor to be closer, public transportation options better, and infrastructure safe enough that you can be comfortable biking there with the baby literally in tow.

People who are worried about explosive diarrhea don't eat at Taco Bell anyway. If anything, Taco Bell is the company that would take the least of a reputational hit from this, due to the brand already having such a strong association with diarrhea.

The problem is, they're pricing transit with the idea that transit is competing with parking; but above a certain price, transit & parking are also competing with "paying anyone with a car to drive you there." (To say nothing of walking/biking, which is apparently not feasible to the site 😠)

There are two kinds of people that "bet" on things that depend mostly on the decisions of a small number of people: (1) the people making the decisions, or people who have inside information about them, and (2) suckers.
