this is what separated the "right" in the US and UK from continental Europe (where the right is more of an illiberal nationalist bent). Of course, now our right wing is much more similar to that, and American conservatism is on life support.

felt like every guy coming out of the bullpen of each team was throwing 100+ mph.

000

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

Yeah I recall that - just typical weather going on lol!

100

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

Those nighttime lows suggest it will also be humid - yikes

140

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

lol - Mamdani is a social democrat who wants to make the city better for everyone who lives, works, and visits there. NYC DSA are a bunch of lunatics.

I don’t want to say the revenue picture is great, but I feel like we keep having very conservative forward looking revenue estimates from the CFO and then we finish the year with more revenue than expected

010

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

good lord that is a brutal take down from the local news!

020

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

lol didn't even think about the section being invalid, but sure enough, the arena in College Park has a Section 109, which is right where he was seated in the video

071

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

IMO Mamdani is the closest thing the US has to a European social democrat. You'd think maybe American leftists would look at why he is different from other leftists here and why he is so popular - and maybe understand that those things are related.

I imagine they appreciate you as a great professor as much as you appreciate them!

121

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

Obviously it helps to have a world class university right there, but C'ville really punches above its weight when it comes to civic and cultural offerings

140

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

yeah, but military coups are part of the broader pan-American (as in the Americas) tradition. We are merely late to the party.

020

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

literally in the DCA flight path lol.

000

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 20/09/2026

30th st is one of the best, but there is something magical about Grand Central in December.

000

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 16/09/2026

Boomers are suburb-pilled more than any other generation

120

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 14/09/2026

this is a reminder that we millennials are starting to get old too lol

000

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

more concerning that he has bludgeoned our local economy and shit is closing everywhere. Gonna be a rough period for a bit.

060

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

they are hardly present in Tenleytown - the hill is too much I guess lol. I see them all the time downtown, but mostly it's like: as long as you aren't in my way when I'm rushing to the metro, I don't really care. More concerned that Trump has sunk us into a recession and shit is closing everywhere

000

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

this is what really pisses me off. I feel horrible for tourists coming here and not being able to see much

000

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

i will say Trump being on the federal buildings downtown IS disturbing, but I am not down in that immediate area a lot. I'm more pissed he has fenced off literally the entire White House complex which screws up one of my runs.

130

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

yeah - it's lame but people are really blowing this out of proportion. There's always cops around - except in parts of the city where crime is the highest lol

120

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 03/09/2026

ESPN basically had three good things left (aside from broadcasting games I might want to watch) - Manningcast, SVP, and only because they brought them in - Inside the NBA. The rest of it is trash.

000

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 28/08/2026

Al Michaels definitely like "I'm too old for this shit"

010

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 28/08/2026

kind of insane the voice of reason amongst the Conservatives right now is Doug fuckin Ford

020

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 24/08/2026

i have my issues with Ford - but he's definitely the right dude to be in Ontario at this moment.

010

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 22/08/2026

yep - this is the only language the neanderthals running our government understand.

091

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 22/08/2026

yeah - can someone explain this to me? The State dept official "leaked" the documents to the small "r" republican person (who is not a small "r" republican lol) and then that account posted the text messages?

021

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 21/08/2026

"The exercise of conscience, however, should not be confused with a claim to an exemption from policies, and parents who do not vaccinate their children are free to choose a different educational path for their children. Catholic virtual schooling and home schooling are among them."

astrothermal is kinda tautological isn't it?

000

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 17/08/2026

Speed cameras have been around for 20+ years in some cities (DC in particular). They aren’t remotely the same thing - particularly given that they only actually trigger IF YOU ARE SPEEDING.

050

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 05/08/2026

"how 'bout an incredibly regressive tax instead??"

2961

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 05/08/2026

yeah it seems that plus going after El-Sayed over it. It didn't make much sense to me at the time.

120

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 05/08/2026

gotta wonder if her "drop" in the polls didn't match reality.

160

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 04/08/2026

hopefully it encourages the creation of more bus lanes and other potential BRT lines throughout the city.

100

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 03/08/2026

i still watch linear TV all the time. It's either sports, re-runs of TV shows I like (The Office, SNL, etc), or "ooh, I like that movie / that movie looks interesting!"

000

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 02/08/2026

lol if there was any doubt he was guilty as hell, that should be put to rest now.

010

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 01/08/2026

ad hominems suggest you don't actually have a counter-argument.

120

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 29/07/2026

yeah feels similar to that storm in I think 2023?

000

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 29/07/2026

yeah some of the damage around Wisconsin and Porter looks pretty bad. What do you think? Microburst? Weak tornado?

100

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 29/07/2026

Must’ve been highly localized- nothing of note in Tenleytown

100

Chris Alexander @chrisalexander.bsky.social · 24/07/2026

unfortunately you see this around the world and in history with an opposition party up against a rising authoritarian party - just fecklessness and incompetence. I mean - that's how the authoritarian party became "rising" in the first place lol.
