Spotted Python on path to Mt Kiangarow lookout #BunyaMountains this morning. *I* stayed several metres away to take these. Spouse stood right over the poor thing to take his - and proceeded to ignore all the reasons I gave him why this was stupid.🤦‍♀️ He also said it was dead (it wasn't) #snake
A small (1m approx) Spotted Python, which is a cream and brown-black patterned Australian native non-venomous snake, coiled up at the base of a tree. Its head is to the left of the photo (taken by zoom several metres away). The snake was probably trying to warm up on a chilly morning which is why it was out in the open near the path.Same snake as in previous shot in less zoomed photo

Some more pictures from the historic whaling station at Albany (I refused to go into the station itself, but the botanic garden and wildlife collection were worth a visit) #AustralianWildlife #AustralianFlora #BloomScrolling #WestAustralia #WestAustralianFlora
A brush-tailed bettong, or woylie, looking off to the left of frame. A woylie is a small nocturnal, kangaroo-like marsupial with greyish-brown fur on the upperparts and flanks and pale grey fur on the underside. Their long, prehensile tail is darkly coloured with a distinctive black brush at the end and is often used to carry nesting material such as grass and bark. Adults can grow to 38 cm (head-body) and 1.6 kg, with females slightly smaller than males.

The one in the shot is about the size of a small cat. Woylies are critically endangered and only found in small populations in West Australia

My grandfather used to say "and Magda Goebbels made a great strudel" and I never knew what it meant until after he died my grandmother explained some magazine did a fluff interview with Magda Goebbels a few years before WW2 that included her strudel recipe and my grandfather, who hated the Nazis with the passion of 10,000 suns, thought it was an example of the media sanitizing evil people and he would use the phrase when someone asked him to overlook a bad person doing bad things and focus on the good.

not true en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Wa...
Screen shot of text from WIki entry reading "America's entry into World War II resulted in a deluge of support for the war effort from all sectors of society, and Hollywood was no exception. Wayne was exempted from service due to his age (34 at the time of Pearl Harbor) and family status (classified as 3-A – family deferment). Wayne repeatedly wrote to John Ford saying he wanted to enlist, on one occasion inquiring whether he could get into Ford's military unit.[40] Wayne did not attempt to prevent his reclassification as 1-A (draft eligible), but Republic Studios was emphatically resistant to losing him, since he was their only A-list actor under contract. Herbert J. Yates, president of Republic, threatened Wayne with a lawsuit if he walked away from his contract,[41] and Republic Pictures intervened in the Selective Service process, requesting Wayne's further deferment.[42]"
