I’ve been here long enough that trying to find old posts is a slog now. I’m going back to using hashtags as a filing system. Historically this has led to some freaky consequences.

My coworker drove one for a year and said the same thing - getting it above 70 mph was a white knuckle experience and a lot of the job was spent sitting in a repair shop parking lot 😂

The thing about artists is that they can not, will not shut up about any part of their process. They’ll talk about the minutia of like, brush fibers to anyone that’ll listen. So why is it “you plebes don’t get this” instead of “here are my favorite prompts?”

What is a garden, exactly? Is it plants in place, or plants out of place? If the gardener disappears, is it wild that very first day, or was it wild the whole time?

Internet emerged in living memory. Pocket sized communication box emerged in living memory, social media, which despite its flaws allowed working class people to communicate with each other at scale for the first time ever, emerged in living memory. This man’s “living memory” is ten minutes long

The walled garden is constructed to keep us on five sites, give or take. And it’s worked for fifteen years or more. That’s where most people are now. But that means there’s an opportunity for the internet to become wild again. So much space that’s being ignored. Maybe it’s time to go exploring.

The bots are noticeable now. In volume and in volume and in content. Dead Internet is real. When you overwork a field, you have to give it time to lay fallow before you can use it again. But that doesn’t mean you can’t experiment in the mean time.

And I’m at the point now where I’m starting to write it off outside of my own poster’s participation in it. I get stuck in eddies of information I’m at best medium-interested in for days, weeks at a time. Sometimes I think the algo’s breaking down. Sometimes I think it’s running as intended.

The slipstream of algorithmic information delivery sucks. Like, sucks. I’m happy for the people that can thrive in that, but it makes my bones itch.

I had an ok sized account at the other place. Not huge by any stretch, but 5 figures. I left in 2015 when the vibes tanked the first time and I’ve been in low power mode ever since.

These little hedgehog shaped pots are around 2,500 years old, dating to the Late Period of Egyptian history. They are a type of pot called an “aryballos” which (as the name suggests) originate in Greece around this time or a little earlier. 🧵1/6 #Egyptology
A photograph of three pots shaped like hedgehogs sitting in a row running diagonally into the photograph. The faces on the three pots face to our right and at the top of each is the neck of the pot growing out of the back of the hedgehog. The one closest to us is green-y blue in colour & has a damaged face, the other two are more intact and are an off-white colour. The pots sit on pieces of museum foam.

Idk why exactly but Fran Leibowitz’s quote, “Your bad habits will kill you, but your good habits won’t save you,” permanently rearranged my brain. Can not look at any of that in the same way now

I think one of the best things you can learn is how to recognize when your own expectations are what’s holding you back. I’m operating at 20% of my usual output right now. 20%. But when I kept struggling for 100%, what I actually got done was 0. Letting 20% be ok was what let me move forward at all
