Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 28/09/2026New ep up! The crew navigates the perilous Cahulawassee River, as we chop up "Deliverance," based on the James Dickey novel. We pair that with the 1981 backwoods slasher, "The Final Terror," starring Joe Pantaliano and Darryl Hannah. Up now on all major streaming services! 000
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 23/09/2026"The Initiation" (1984) absolutely rocks. One of those forgotten '80s slashers, replete w/ malls, sororities, & people being hacked up w/ gardening implements. Clu Gulager & Daphen Zuniga? Sign me up. Super fun flick as we enter slasher season (i.e., Fall). 000
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 02/09/2026Shame he never got proper credit for the inception of the Friday franchise. 000
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 02/09/2026She deserves every award for that virtuoso performance. 000
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 31/08/2026Set to record a full-length ep focusing on Curry Barker's "Obsession" in a few days. Conducting a ton of research and we intend to chop up so many themes and Easter eggs. Lots of world-building potential for this neat film. Stay tuned! 010
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 31/08/2026Oh yeah, I love it, too. A young FX master, Rob Bottin (of "The Thing" fame) designed the suits. We recorded an entire pod episode on it (PRIME CUTS #17). Check it out via all streaming services. 020
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 27/08/2026Anyone ever seen "The Final Terror" (1981)? It's a bizarre mashup of "Deliverance" and every '80s summer camp slasher. Darryl Hannah & Joe Pantaliano in a completely disorienting role. Actually fairly entertaining & feels like it could be one of those Italian/Spanish/American co-production flicks. 000
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 25/08/2026Latest ep on the Kevin Bacon classic, "Tremors" (1990) paired with 1980's "Blood Beach." We chop up beaches vs. lake "beaches," Michael Gross & Family Ties, as well as the John Saxon police procedural element to "Blood Beach." Up now on all streaming services! 031
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 21/08/2026Incoming PRIME CUTS ep on "Obsession" coming soon! We're in the lab cooking this one up. Lots to discuss, particularly Indie Navarrette's virtuoso performance & Curry Barker's directorial ascendance. 010
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 21/08/2026Saw "Killing Ground" (2017) last night. Australian horror-thriller. I'd probably call it more thriller than horror. Unnecessarily cruel, just gut-punch stuff that is shoehorned in for cheap heat. Two plots converge in the cruelest way. I don't recommend, tho it does have some final girl energy. 010
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 12/08/2026The CIU gang joins forces w/ @finalgirlspodcast.bsky.social again to slice & dice John Carpenter’s 1980 ghost story, “The Fog.” We chop up dueling final girls Adrienne Barbeau & Jamie Lee Curtis as they battle an evil fog & undead zombie sailors invading a sleepy coastal town. Up now everywhere! 034
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 29/07/2026Same same. King's original ending was even more bleak, as I understand it. 010
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 29/07/2026Dude, that is an idea. And then you chronicle the road trip, and do a mini-show detailing it! 120
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 29/07/2026Recorded a PRIME CUTS ep on “Edge of the Axe” (1988) tonight w/ @slashertrash.bsky.social. We chopped up the evolution of the slasher subgenre & had a good laugh at some classic cheesy 1980s horror fare. Up on all streaming services soon! 020
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 29/07/2026@finalgirlspodcast.bsky.social @kelnivale.bsky.social You guys absolutely need to watch “Dead & Buried” (1981). Avant garde weirdo bonkers northern Cali coastal town movie that I am known to recommend. Curious to know what you guys make of it. 120
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 28/07/2026Absolutely checking this out. Long-form could work if the writing holds up. Tough to follow something like "Widow's Bay," but we'll see. 000
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 28/07/2026Still alive! He's 88 yrs old. Went the distance with Ali. A Canadian legend. Great writing on "The Fly," btw. One of my faves that we covered on an ep a while back. 000
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 27/07/2026Love the cameo by former professional heavyweight boxer George Chuvalo as Marky (aka, the guy whose forearm gets snapped like a breadstick in the arm-wrestling contest with Brundle-fly). 110
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 27/07/2026Our full-length ep on "Alligator" (1980) and "Lake Placid" (1999) is up! Beat the summer heat by dipping your toes into this one, as the CIU crew chops up a couple of scorching creature features! Up now on all streaming services! 000
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 23/07/2026No more deliberating: it's bad-bad. Maybe if they swapped out the entire cast and started again? Ice Cube definitely has to go. 010
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 21/07/2026So far down the Carpenter rabbit hole that I'm actually forcing myself to watch "Ghosts of Mars" until I figure out if it's good-bad, bad-good, bad-bad, or good-good. 220

Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 17/07/2026Just saw "The Long Walk" last night. I haven't read King's source material, but the film's new ending is utterly baffling and has either a muddled amoral message, or no message at all. I dig siege horror, but w/ 15 mins left I knew the ending was going to be terrible. 130
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 13/07/2026CIU once again riding the coattails of @finalgirlspodcast.bsky.social, as we guest on their show to chop up John Carpenter's minor masterwork "The Fog" (1980), featuring dueling final girls: Jamie Lee Curtis and Adrienne Barbeau. Carpenter deep in his bag on this one. We'll be in the studio soon! 031
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 13/07/2026RIP Sam Neill. A phenomenal character actor, and a favorite here at CIU headquarters. We chopped up two horror classics featuring Sam: (1) "In the Mouth of Madness" and (2) "Event Horizon." He rocks in both. Go check them out! 010
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 10/07/2026George Kennedy in the 1988 schlock horror movie, "Demonwarp" is something to behold. Pure, unfettered "Is the check in the mail?" acting energy from Kennedy. Still an all-time great unintentional comedy factor in this lesser known horror flick. Highly recommended. 000
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 09/07/2026Oooh. I need to see this as soon as possible. When/where is it available for streaming? 000
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 09/07/2026I'll watch, but only because I need to see the shark eat Banderas. 000
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 09/07/2026We're late for Pride Month, but our latest PRIME CUTS ep on "A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge" is up. We discuss in-depth how Marc Patton endured the filming & why screenwriter David Chaskin shoehorned in homoerotic [barely] subtext. Available now on all streaming services! 011
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 30/06/2026Thanks! Haven't seen Sudbury Devil, but will def give it a watch. We covered "The Witch" as a standalone ep a while back--Robert Eggers never misses. Great film. Appreciate the suggestion. We'll do "Sudbury Devil" and let you know when it's up! 110
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 29/06/2026Our full-length episode on "Hereditary" & "Babadook" is up now on all streaming platforms! Give us a listen. We are also open to any movie pairing suggestions, so send them our way! 111
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 23/06/2026Eh, I'm circumspect. The original film came at the nascent stage of the Internet & the marketing (faux-documentary, etc.) was brilliant. Don't think that can be replicated. Lightning in a bottle stuff. Blair Witch was filmed up the street from me & it's rarified air in these parts. May give a watch. 010
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 22/06/2026Watching Bava's "A Bay of Blood" (1972). The entire giallo subgenre of horror is almost entirely ignored here in the States. Really wish some filmmakers out there would breathe life into this style in America. 000
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 18/06/2026We're up! Give Chopping It Up's new PRIME CUTS episode on "Widow's Bay" a listen. Available on all major streaming services. 010
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 18/06/2026CIU's episode on the smash hit horror-comedy series "Widow's Bay" will be up soon! It leans heavily on Carpenter's "The Fog" (1980), and borrows from several horror subgenres. Great comedic timing, witty, the characters, and the cinematography. Even a bit of slasher/Final Girl! Ck us out everywhere! 000
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 16/06/2026I feel like she turns the concept of a Final Girl on its proverbial head. She's the murderer but also the victim. For me, the true antagonist in "Sleepaway Camp" is Aunt Martha for forcing a gender turn on Angela. 010
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 16/06/2026I love "Widow's Bay" like everyone else, but it essentially is Carpenter's "The Fog" with some tweaks. 011

Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 09/06/2026Avant-garde horror needs to be an official horror subgenre. Watching Bava's "Demons" and it reminds me how much I love these kinds of flicks: "Suspiria," "Messiah of Evil," "Tenebrae," "Inferno," etc. Love the vibrant colors and disorientation. Any suggestions for films to add to this category? 000

Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 05/06/2026The opening track & title sequence for "Jason Takes Manhattan" is quintessential '80s. The Canadian band Metropolis performing "Darkest Side of Night" is fire. Lead singer Stan Meissner wrote music for Celine Dion, Eddie Money, & The Cars! He def brought the heat for this one. 010
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 04/06/2026Welcoming in the summer w/ a full ep on two slasher classics: Friday the 13th part 3 & part 8 (Jason Takes Manhattan)! Can't wait to chop these two up. This feels like the true alpha & omega of the franchise, the hockey mask, machete, etc. Recording soon--keep your eyes peeled! 130
Chopping It Up @choppingitup.bsky.social · 28/05/2026Let's welcome summer with some sun, sand, & surf. Only the island village of Widow's Bay isn't quite as welcoming. Join the CIU crew as we chop up the new smash hit horror-comedy series, "Widow's Bay." Such a wonderfully crafted show, replete with horror, haunts, & laughs in equal measure. Up soon! 041
