Again, in none of these tragic cases has transphobic violence been determined to be the motive. In many cases, it has been categorically ruled out. www.everytown.org/transgender-...

And not to be outdone, there is one murder of an inmate who was serving a life sentence. And one murder commited by another 'trans' person. The others were, in no particular order:

30 USA murders are included in the remembrance. Zero have been determined to be as a result of transphobia. In 26% of cases there is no suspect & therefore no motive. (Compared to the 40% for the USA as a whole) 6 people were murdered by their current/ex partner 3 Hit & Runs 3 unknown motives

60% of all of the names are from South & Central America. 25% of the names are from Brazil & 17% from Mexico. Where, unfortunately prostitution is one of the most dangerous 'professions' & 4 women are murdered daily Many of these victims are unidentified.

Of the 3 murders in Turkey, there is no information available for 2. The 3rd was brutally murdered during a home robbery.

In Spain one person was murdered by a Moroccan migrant given sanctuary by the victim's parents (no suggestion of transphobia). One is unnamed & the other is not a suspicious death.

2 names from The Netherlands, neither were recorded as suspicious. 2 names from the Philippines, one from last year, the other was murdered by another trans person (presumably not due to transphobia)

There were 5 names reported from France. 3 were not suspicious. One was murdered by his partner (transphobia was not a factor) The other was murdered & the trial is pending.

Of the 4 names reported from Australia, 3 were not recorded as suspicious deaths. The other passed away due to a drug overdose.

Tiffany Scott Dubbed Scotland's most violent prisoner after a sting of offences including sex offences, serious violence against numerous women & stalking of a 13 year old girl. There is no suggestion that Tiffany's death was linked to transphobia.

I've had a look at the names on the list. One of them might shock you (although given all we know, it probably won't) www.transremembrance.org/internationa...

The list includes 370 names of transgender people who we are honouring because they lost their lives due to transphobia. Or does it? The USA stats are at the end of the thread.

"Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is an annual observance on November 20 that honors the memory of the transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence" As always, this isn't quite what it seems.

You introduced culture & social constructions. I'm more than happy for you to walk away because you're unable to defend your position.

I'm not sure understanding observation means I've "fucked up" In the same way I identify whether a traffic light is red, or I identify that it's raining. How do you identify that someone is a woman?
000
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
You introduced this as a topic. Has it occured to you that your inability to defend your argument might suggest that your argument is nonsense?
100
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
By using my eyes.
100
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
Right, so the definition of definition isn't fixed & can be either an objective statement of the meaning of a word, or a subjective opinion.
100
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
Perhaps you could answer my question?
100
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
Why am I unable to apply it? Based on their species, age & sex. You appear to be suggesting that being a woman is dependent, in some cases, on performing sex-based stereotypes, and in other cases by simply declaring it so.
100
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
I'm a little confused, you believe definitions are subjective opinions, and you believe that because I know that's nonsense, that shows a lack of understanding on my part.
100
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
I didn't suggest it wasn't. Perhaps you could answer my question.
100
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
Right, so her culture is fixed & she cannot identify as belonging to a culture which she doesn't, in fact, belong to? For example, it would be a ridiculous notion for a white woman to identify as a different race?
100
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
You appear to not understand what definition means. Subjective opinions are not definitions, obviously. I'd broadly agree with that definition, although I'd add age to be specific.
200
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
Also, if you don't mind my asking, what culture does your wife identify with that has the, agreed, opinion that women are judged to be women based on outdated, backward, regressive & repressive stereotypes?
100
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
Right, so not a definition then, a subjective, individualistic opinion? So there is no, actual, definition? Except legally, of course.
200
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 20/11/2024
Great. And the "agreed subjective opinion" which your wife uses "in generalities" in "common parlance" within her "culture" is, what?
000
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
Super. What is that "broad subjective definition"?
200
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
This is what you said earlier. You made no mention of there being some discussion of your wife's & the person asking's subjective opinions on the definition of the common noun 'woman', so I'm slightly confused how this can, in fact, be true.
100
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
Great. What agreed subjective opinion does your wife employ when she says "I am a woman"?
100
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
Nobody is insisting on "gender checks" I hate to be the one to tell you, but gender ≠ sex. Nobody GsAF whether people choose to believe in gender identity & define themselves on the basis of that belief. We do, however, care that males are playing in female sports.
020
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
You're right. Of course. The reason men hold the WRs in nearly all sports is because women just don't try hard enough. Obviously the same reason men who identify as women don't menstruate - they're just not trying hard enough.
000
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
OK. What agreed subjective opinion does your wife employ when she says "I am a woman"?
100
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
I'm not sure you understand the point of the protest. Most farmers are asset rich & cash poor.
000
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
What subjective definition are they accepting?
100
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
I'm a little confused, it's ironic because she's protesting against a policy which will direct affect her?
100
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
Right, so it's meaningless then.
100
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
Yes, I know. What's the objective criteria for being a man?
100
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
The answer then is no.
100
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
For example, does it matter if I identify as a millionaire when I'm in a social situation to attempt to impress someone? Probably not. But if I identify as a millionaire in an attempt to extort money, then it's clearly an issue.
000
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
Right, so we've established that 'identifying as' & 'is' aren't the same. So now the discussion moves to what we do when 'identifying as' means 'pretending to be', and in which situations the difference is important to highlight.
210
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
I'm not at all, I clearly misunderstood. Are you asking if it's as important to be truthful about all situations? For example, is answering in the negative to "does my bum look big in this" as important as lying about the use of non fire retardant cladding on homes?
100
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
Right. So we've established how the short forms of names operates. You haven't answered my question though. Am I what I identify as? For example, if I identify as a millionaire, does that mean I am a millionaire?
110
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
I'm not sure I understand. Can you give me an example?
100
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
Why is it ironic? Is it also ironic if people with jobs support initiatives to lower unemployment?
100
Chocolatey @chocolatey.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
What's the difference between 'identifies as' & 'is'?
