Current obsession ✨: capturing the Mojave desert in bloom through watercolor and drypoint intaglio etchings. I want to counter the idea that the desert is barren. I loved the dancing and contrasting shapes in this Joshua Tree bloom. #art #desertart #printmaking #watercolor #joshuatree

Joshua Tree in Purple and Yellow Harmony, gouache on watercolor paper, 4” squared. Here’s this piece and the page it is currently on in my watercolor sketchbook. I like all of these compositions together, though I plan on individually framing each piece. #gouache #desertart #landscape #painting

Gouache painting of a landscape in Joshua tree. The sky is purple and the land has purple, yellow, blues, and greens.

A page of gouache landscapes all focused on the Mojave desert.

Circling the Mojave. I’ve been on a tondo painting kick. All of these pieces are oil on panel, ranging from 16” round to 48” round. There is an interesting challenge to composing within a circle. #artist #landscapepainting #oilpainting #studioart

Wiping my plate for my “Mojave Spring Goddess” drypoint intaglio. The process is always so fascinating; as you gradually wipe off the excess ink the image begins to reveal itself. It’s magical. I have such a reverence for this printmaking process. #printmaking #etching #art #artprofessor

Golden Desert, gouache on paper, 6” round. I painted on top of a beautiful yellow-orange tone. I was tempted to leave the sky that vibrant yellow, but it felt like too much. I settled instead for golden moments peaking through. #joshuatree #gouache #painting #landscapepainting #artprofessor

Sometimes you just have to paint rhinos and unicorns. Acrylic paint on canvas. I’ve explored allot of heavy themes in my work. Art is an incredible tool to work through complex emotions—but I’ve found it is also important for myself to seek out levity and humor. Thus—unicorns! #painting #stilllife
