Herb. 30cm x 20cm acrylic on canvas. Probably the smallest possible size for a painting that's 80% grass and 10% whiskers.🤣 #AcrylicPainting #cats #art

Herb just took up residence under our woodpile awning, so we ended up feeding him, and letting him in over the freezing 24-25 winter weather. When we found his owners they let us keep him, so we got him a chip and a care plan. I snapped the source photo for this painting while he was "shade bathing" in the front garden because everywhere else must've been too hot for his long haired black coat.

"Rosie", acrylic on canvas. Reupload after some tweaks. The original photo I used was affected a bit by sunlight, so I had to repaint some places to comply with other photos which were all a lot darker in the lightest areas. #acrylicpainting #cats #TabbyCat

Pet portrait of "Nosey Rosie" a neighbour's tabby that got run over and killed a little while back. People in the street shouted warnings at the driver, and shouted for her to stop after the accident. She did not. This is from the best photo I had of her, sitting in my garden, but under the shade of a tree in the least good looking corner of my garden, so I set her in this neutral background of just grass and sky. Will be gifted to her meowmy for Xmas.

#Caturday is my day off, as is every other day.😜🤣

A picture of "Herb", a stray who has chosen us to live with, and our couch to snooze on, which is all good since we got all those nasty tats cut out, a nice little vaccination, and a bunch of flea treatments. No longer the cold, wet, frozen, underweight, sorry little specimen we gave shelter to on those freezing nights we had a few months ago.

Finished my cowcat portrait. A portrait of a cat, in front of a painting of a cat in front of a painting of a cat... in front of a painting of a cat.🤔 #acrylicpainting #cats #art #painting #pets #cowcat #cowcats

A black and white "cowcat" was photographed in front of an ongoing painting of her buddy. That photograph was composited with the same background as the painting she sits in front of, then made into this 40cm by 50cm acrylic painting on canvas. The foreground cowcat is the new rescue friend of the blue-eyed cat, after his first little calico friend in the painting on the wall died suddenly.

This is taking longer than I thought, probably because it's composed using several photos. That foreground brush pot took 3 attempts, and the palette is on its 2nd (1st was too small). Hoped it would be done for #februarty, but more likely it'll be #martch now. #acrylicpainting #painting #art #cats

My penultimate Magritte reproduction, "Muscles Of The Sky" A2 acrylic on card, and an object lesson in #surrealism. The torn edge kind of asks: has the painting been torn to reveal the sky, or has the sky been torn to reveal the painting? Cool. 😎 #art #painting #acrylicpainting

Rene Magritte's "Muscles Of The Sky" reproduced in acrylics. A grey cloud covered sky is revealed by torn edges, and reaches down, appearing to stand on an Albertian pavement. This reproduction was painted using ordinary DIY vinyl silk interior white paint, Early Learning Canter children's black poster paint, a little artists yellow ochre, and some charcoal for the pavement lines. It is A2 in size, and painted on thick card.

The picture on the wall is of his bonded buddy who died about a year ago, and the next will be of his new buddy (Moofi) where she's sitting in front of this picture when it was being painted, so all three will be in it. Here's a crude mock-up. It's a fake setting for a real photo.😎

Mock-up of an intended painting of three cats. The subject is the black and white cowcat, photographed sitting in front of a painting of her buddy, who was painted with a picture of his old buddy hanging on a wall in the background.

My third Magritte, "Fine Realities", A3, acrylic on card. A table on an apple, exactly as it shouldn't be. Strange sky background, mimicked quite accurately. Fun project, which was meant to be my last Magritte... but wasn't. 😜 #art #painting #acrylicpainting #surrealism

A reproduction in acrylics of Rene Magritte's oil painting "Fine Realities". The image shows the surreal inversion of reality, where a table is on an apple, rather than the other way round. A large green apple fills about half of the area, with a small table perched upon it. Both are suspended in a blue-green patchy sky. A neat, clean, white tablecloth covers the table.

My 2nd Magritte "The Listening Room". Acrylic on card, A3. The same reason to paint as the first, but with more blending using glycerol to slow the paint drying. Plus, I just like surrealists, particularly Rene Magritte, so these got clip-framed and hung. #art #painting #acrylicpainting #surrealism

The Listening Room by surrealist Rene Magritte, originally painted in oils but recreated by me in acrylics as a learning exercise. A gigantic green apple almost entirely fills a room. A window on the left casts light on the apple, which sits on a planked floor. More than one version of this image exists.

I reproduced this Rene Magritte ("The Song Of Love" acrylic on card) as an exercise in learning acrylics. It's A3 in size, so I used glycerol and water to keep the paint from drying just long enough to blend it. #art #acrylicpainting #painting #ReneMagritte #Surrealism

A reproduction of surrealist Rene Magritte's "The Song Of Love", originally painted in oils, but painted here using modern acrylics. It consists of three large apples, arranged in a triangle, and painted in primary colours. One red, one yellow, and one is a bright sky blue. They are grouped on a flat sandy beach with tiny imperfections and two isolated pebbles casting long shadows from left to right, while the calm sea gently breaks with small white foamy waves behind them. The sky is a slightly darker blue with wispy clouds.

WIP. Showing my method. "Blue" will be the subject filling the foreground, with another painting of "Jackie" on the distant wall behind him. Jackie needed a small stencil (held on here with magnets) because she's only 2cm in this tiny image. #art #painting #acrylicpainting #cats

Work in progress. It's going to be a cat (Blue and his beautiful blue eyes), painted sitting on the board I sometimes use to paint on. In the background is another painting on the wall. That painting is of his late best friend Jackie sitting on a roof, which has a stencil placed with pairs of magnets to hold it while I try and reproduce the 9cm original, but only about 2cm tall in this image. A much larger stencil has been readied to place the basic shape of Blue. I find if the outline of the cat is accurately created, the moggy in question becomes instantly recognisable by anyone who knows him, and more so if the painting gets his coat pattern reasonably accurate.

050

Creative Socialist @chipworker.bsky.social · 22/01/2025

This was the first moggy I ever painted (about 6 or 7 years ago I think). It was a thank you gift for the old lady neighbour who helped care for him, and made a cat person out of me. 🥰 #art #painting #cats #acrylicpainting

A painting of "Pud" on a fence. He was feral, and lived to be nearly 20 years old. I did this A4 sized acrylic on card for a neighbour who paid for his regular vet treatments, and he slept all day in our garden "guarding" our rabbit and guinea pigs by chasing away any other cats. Strange for a cat to want to spend all day with small animals, but he ate well and slept indoors if it was too cold (or even too hot) outside. He made such an impression on us that we homed three more feral and rescued cats after he curled up to sleep on the neighbour's husband's lap one last time, and passed peacefully in his sleep.
