Why is this upcoming meeting is important? Visit cooksmills.com. Is the polluter Saint-Gobain Ceramic Materials interested in farmland? Decisions may be made in Tuesday's in-camera Welland Council meeting that could affect generations in Welland. #handsoffourfarmland #cooksmills #Welland

Oh, this is too funny. No one in Canada wants to head over the border into the US. (Not The Beaverton but except for bad spelling, they might have competition at satire.)

A single border control agent with a pair of binoculars scans a wintery landscape for Canadians escaping our wonderful country.

Now that Pupo's has put up a new store sign, they've gone back to the handpainted signs in the windows. Isn't this becoming a lost art? They are done by hand. #signs #signpainting #grocerystore #localbusiness

Grocery store with Pupo's Farm Fresh above the large windows. Each window contains a handpainted sign in blue and red lettering showing the week's specials. It is a brick building with a bright red roof and white lettering for the store sign.

The value of monthly U.S. wine exports (Jan 2023–Jun 2025). Year over year, Canada (-96.8%) has all but disappeared as an export market for U.S. wine. China (-35.9%) and the UK (-6.1%) are down as well. Overall, U.S. wine exports declined by US$38.8 million (-37%) compared to June 2024.

The chart shows a dramatic drop in wine exports to Canada.

Telephone booths in Salzburg, Austria in the old town.

Two phone booths are set up side by side on cobblestone. Curiously, the brass handles of each are on the side furthest away from the other. Pastel graffiti and posters in white, yellow and orange are visible. A sand-coloured building with white framed windows is in the background.

I wound this beautiful gradient up. The plan is a shawl for a friend that will remind her of the Ukrainian flag. I don't want to waste a bit of those colour changes. Yarn by The Blue Brick, a Canadian indie dyer. #Yarn #knitting #Shawl #BlueBrick #gradient #Canadian #indiedyer

Cake of yarn in a gradient with yellow on the outside moving into the centre with lilac, royal blue and navy.

I love having a yearly membership to the Niagara Parks Floral Showcase. This was Christmas. #NiagaraParks #NiagaraFalls #Niagara #Ontario #FloralShowcase

A Christmas tree made of poinsettias is centred in the greenhouse which has curved rows of poinsettias on the floor running up to it. Strings of Christmas lights run from front to back along the glass roof. Two nutcrackers stand guard on each side near the glass walls. Huge poinsettia baskets hang from the roof.

That still gives me nightmares. I finally figured out how to cast it off properly. I haven't blocked it yet. This is from when I was younger and still optimistic about making it. I bought three colourways.

L.J. Shickluna Service Station, Port Colborne, ON. While it looks like an abandoned building may be demolished soon, this is a designated National Historic Site. Built in 1924, this station is representative of the "modern" auto-influenced landscape. It's exciting to see activity there lately.

Centred in the frame is a building constructed in the Spanish Colonial Revival (or California Mission) style. The walls are stuccoed. The terracotta roof tiles on the front canopy are obscured by snow. The windows are boarded up and "No Parking" is spraypainted on the leftmost board. A flimsy construction fence surrounds the building.

How cute are these stocking stretchers I found in a charity shop? A kind woman who taught knitting for me at my library job gave me a beautiful pair of wooden sock stretchers but I found these and couldn't resist them. #fibrearts #fiberarts #knitting #sockknitting #sockaddict #sockstretchers

A long pair of wooden stocking stretchers. They have a beautiful patina and shapely form. There are holes drilled at regular intervals. They are tied at the top with a green ribbon and are on a cement background.

It was a fantastic night at Diane Sims' book launch for Beyond the Shadow at The Arts and Letters Club. Readers held our attention with excerpts from Diane's book then she read excerpts about her spiritual journey and the chapter added after being bestowed the Order of Canada. I'm so proud!

Paintings are in the background. On the left, Diane Sims is holding a pen and an open book she is preparing to sign. To her right, is her husband Dennis with his hand laid on her arm affectionately.

My daughter made one. I'm completing the other as she moved out of the country and couldn't take them with her. I love her yarn choices and I love this pattern. Matching gauge was a bit of a challenge. #sockknitting #knitting #twistedhanks #waterfortheelephants #sockaddict

Colourful Water for the Elephants socks. One is complete and one is on four needles.
