I built the same four-screen app six ways — native, React Native, Flutter, Compose Multiplatform — with agents doing the work. Some teams dismiss native's cost too quickly. In my tests, it was the slowest by a wide margin — up to 3.5× the agent minutes.

If app stores die, it’ll be because they’re the wrong primitive—but I don’t think a messaging-based app store is the right solution.

If your UI only has a dark mode theme, it's probably not accessible for a large percentage of your user base.

Don't use Shopify migrating away from React Native as an opportunity to dunk on RN because it's not your tool of choice. You're just stoking the fire.

Shopify is going back to native from React Native. But they changed two things at once: the language, and a new agent-addressable architecture. Two-variable experiment, one-variable conclusion — the headline will read "native won," and the evidence doesn't isolate that.

Whoever wins the race to the bottom will probably win on longevity, so it's a good move for Meta and Google. But I'd put more stock in Meta because they at least have plans to open the weights for Muse. deepmind.google/models/mode...

AI can churn out plausible nonsense—confident, coherent, and persuasive—exponentially faster than the worst engineer. It can summarize, justify, and “explain” mistakes faster than you can check them, turning shaky assumptions into polished fiction.

AI gave product engineering teams a raise: same effort, more output. The trap is spending it all — more scope, more surface area — instead of investing the surplus.

Good reads from April & May Apr 6 — Claude Is Not Your Architect www.hollandtech.net/claude-is-n... AI coding assistants are too agreeable to be trusted with real architecture decisions — they never push back, and when a bad design fails, it’s the engineers who get blamed, not the AI.

Claude Is Not Your Architect. Stop Letting It Pretend.
Somewhere between 'ask Claude for a quick opinion' and 'Claude is writing our Jira tickets,' we lost the plot. AI agents are brilliant implementers. They're also confidently wrong about every decision that matters. And when it all falls over, they won't be the ones carrying the bag.

a lot of programmers work in the tech a lot more of them work outside of tech tech makes a lot of revenue per employee - if they had to pay 2x per programmer it probably wouldn't matter very different for everyone else worth thinking about in terms of coding agent spend

Stop building tools for a single AI coding agent. Locking into one ecosystem prevents you from swapping models as bleeding-edge tech evolves. Focus on interoperable standards and protocols. The future is multi-agent and multi-model. Build for the stack, not the brand.

Measuring token usage is the new measuring velocity. Velocity taught teams to reward inflated estimates. Token usage will teach teams to reward verbosity. Goodhart's Law doesn't care what era you're in.

Developer velocity was already a flawed, gameable metric—blind to quality and long-term costs. AI makes it worse: output spikes, effort looks smaller, and the real bottlenecks move to review, testing, and correctness.
