Join SLICE, the Saint Louis Poetry Center, and special guest Crystal Odelle on Saturday, September 19, 12–2 p.m. at The Sheldon for an experimental storytelling workshop that will break point of view, tense, chronology, and just maybe reality itself. Register: www.eventbrite.com/e/writing-to...
Blue swirly poster graphic with a black frame in the center, topped by the shape of a fountain pen. Graphic in the frame reads "Writing to Recollect, or Time Travel 101, SLICE Special Guest Workshop with Crystal Odelle." Crystal's name floats above a whirlpool graphic that a tiny yellow Mr. Slice appears to be falling headfirst into.

As my catio finally, finally nears completion after 14 months, I have derived a lot of joy from explaining the baffling decisions the previous homeowner made and my slow progress to fix them.

I'm not particularly handy, but I am stubborn enough to figure out how to use a prybar to remove carpet that was inexplicably under my combination washer/dryer unit in preparation for a new one. All this to say, homeownership is a trip and a half.

I'm currently sitting at a 1:10 Win Loss Ratio with Defect, which is not particularly good although I am able to get to Act 3 pretty consistently. But this latest win was my highest scoring yet thanks to 10 elite kills. Gambling Chip, Throwing Axe+Defrag, AfO with 0 costs and Cannon. Perfection.
A Slay the Spire 2 Victory Screen highlighting the Elite Slayer badge (9+ Elite kills)A run summary of an A10 Defect Run. Neow's Sacrifice in Act 1, Pael's Legion in Act 2, Tanx's Throwing Axe in Act 3. Special calls out to two pieces of the boat block relics, Gambling Chip, Power Cell, Data Disc, Lucky Fysh+Meal Ticket+Courier+Membership Card, All for One with a bunch of 0 cost attacks, most upgraded to benefit from Miniature cannon.A new personal best high school. 3756 points on A10 Defect.

It's nice when you look back at a piece and it actually hits the same as when you wrote because that is almost certainly not the default response.

Bars and I continue to have what I can best described as a tenuous working relationship where I can exist in one for about two hours alone before I start to completely dissociate. It used to be one hour. I have my doubts I'll ever get to three.

I don't have a particularly good win rate at Slay the Spire 2 (it's floating around 1/10), but I certainly do know how to snowball and I think I am okay with that. Latest Defect A10, where I asked "Is it greedy to make my own Claw on floor 2?"

(I am proud of myself for having gotten 2 more A10 wins with Silent and another A10 on Regent. My win rate is barely 11%, but hey, I am just doing it for the love of a game and the weird little guys of Preon)

As it turns out, part of my myopia was induced by having to solve said puzzle under 30 minutes before having to readjust my comfy position to charge my Steam Deck, so at the cost of carpal tunnel and an external battery, I am able to play at a "leisurely" pace again which is reducing said myopia.

But God, there are few things as satisfying as trying to solve a modular puzzle.

Mikkel Snyder @chimericnotion.myatproto.social · 31/05/2026
All this to say Slay the Spire 2 is still very addicting even if my conversion of runs to wins is low and skewed. I need to 1) see how much heavier this external battery pack makes playing with the Steam Deck. 2) Play more multiplayer so I have to slow down and have that mentality trickle to solo.

Mikkel Snyder @chimericnotion.myatproto.social · 31/05/2026
I'm at the "myopia into a game as a means of distraction" phase of my life cycle, which comes at a reasonable time in some respects and unreasonable time in others. Which I think is just a part of human existence to a degree, but still.

I almost want to get good enough at modding, data extraction, and analytics to see more precise break points. Almost. Game scratches a very specific itch. I just wish my Steam Deck's battery wasn't on the brink of death (I get to play in about 30 minute intervals before needing to charge).

After about 170 hours, I have managed to complete my short term goal of beating A10 on each character in Slay the Spire. Defect remains my favorite. Ironclad/Necrobinder/Regent float in the middle. Silent, despite being the character that stream rolled a lot of early ascension was my last victory.

Screenshot of the Luddite Lab website. The word Luddite Lab is in the top left corner. The tables in the top read: Case Studies, Primers, Resource Library, Contact Us, and About. The text below reads: “The Luddite Lab Resource Hub provides resources for unions, labor organizations, and worker-organizers fighting AI and automation at work. The lab provides strategies for worker-led governance and oversight of new technology through case studies, primers, and a resource library.” Below, there are five cards: Case Studies (Stories from worker organizers resisting AI), Primers (Applied research insights into AI, automation, and the future of work), Resource Library (Additional resources from partners), Contact Us (Ways to connect with the Luddite Lab team), and About (About the Luddite Lab project and team)
